  • The first generation Ford Escort was an extremely popular disposable transportation device for the entire decade of the 1980s and as such were almost completely driven into the ground. Here we have a real treat in this super clean and super red first gen Escort LX 5spd with only 42k miles. We poke around it then go for a quick drive for the auction of this car over ‪@carsandbids‬ at: carsandbids.com/auctions/r4YX...

I had an '87 GL 3-door 5-speed. Very similar car minus the turbine wheels and sleekened rear end treatment. I drove mine across the country and back, 8,000 miles in 6 weeks. It got me out and back with no problems.

That thing is beautiful. I'm drooling and I want it.
Laugh all you want, but it's a dream car.

My parents bought one just like this in the spring of '89. Ours was a 2 door LX but ours had gray interior. And it had air. It had the cassette player, and it was a 5 speed. I remember when we got it there was an Escort GT in the showroom and it was the same shade of red. We had it for a few years. Great little car.

my mom had one when I was little right around the time my sister was born. It was either white or a very light silver. Same grey bumpers and red interior, but hubs instead of the premium wheels. That red interior makes me feel nostalgic. Spent many times in that back seat in the early 90s. Mom used to do her own house cleaning service so when you folded the seats down I had a good laugh. I used to sit back there like that, without seat belts or a proper seat, with a mop, vacume, etc during the summer when I was forced to tag along with her.

Reminds me so much of the '86 L model that I had. Mine was a 3-door, similarly equipped, but I had AC. I loved that little car! ❤

I did Driver's Ed in a '90 Escort just like this one but automatic and with the standard wheels with plastic covers.

Having owned an 88 Escort (GT) I can say -- 44k is great, it's only just over halfway through its life cycle! :D

I have this EXACT car, red in and out. Only difference is mine is automatic. Still has the cassette player that works. I love my little car.

Very interesting spec. No A/C, 5-speed, but it has AM/FM cassette and upgraded wheels. I have to say that Red/Red was never a good color scheme! That interior hurts my eyes. But the exterior looks amazing. This thing has been amazingly well kept! I love to see cheap, everyday cars survive in such great shape. It's hard to believe this one is 35 years old!

Oh, Lord help you if you ever have to change the water pump one of those:

There’s a special wrench that is mandatory to change the water pump. I have two of them. Still driving a 1989 Escort GT purchased December 1988. 193,000 miles as of December 2023.

Many models had those wheels not just turbo models

I believe they were standard on the Tempo and optional on some Escort models.

From the side view, the tail lights look unmistakably SAAB inspired…

I had an 89 3 door in the early 1990s.
Based on the exterior and interior condition of this one the engine compartment looked pretty ratty.
