Hi i have an old Dunlite generator 3kva. Can you please tell me how to fix as I have 50 hz frequency when adjust proper rpm but over voltage at 335 volts with a fan plugged in? Do all 4 stroke generator have AVR inside? Also when you took off the plastic housing on alternator section with two screws i have same thing but two big screws in the middle? The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

Great work Jahan in correcting the loose connections and adjusting the voltage regulator. I was wondering too why the pot was so far out of adjustment. You mentioned in a comment below that someone else was there before you. And good idea as a viewer mentioned to check the frequency to ensure that all is well. Keep up the good work!
Yes dear sir you are correct and this was the case. Anyhow it provided a nice experience and good case study what to do if a generator have too much varied voltage beyond standard. Hi your videos are great I thought I reach out to you because I know I have a simple problem and maybe you can help me diagnose it with my genrac quietpact 50. I have did a complete service and replaced the carb and springs that connect to the throttle and governor arm. I get power when running maybe about a minute and rare occasion 10-15 mins then it shuts off. I checked the hertz and put it at 60hz. Engine sounds great. However I have noticed at some point I can hear a slight surge for a moment and at that time I can see the hertz go upto 75-90hz then the power shuts off? I measured the voltage to when running at 60 hertz it’s about124-126 when it surges for a second or less it goes up to 160ish. Could this be the excitation breaker causing this problem. During this whole time I never had a large load on the generator just a tv on.
AoA, very much informative video. I have a strange problem with my homage 6.02 kva ATS generator as it drops voltage randomly. Like sometimes it produce 220-230 volts, whereas, in between, it comes to 97, 105, 180, 102, 115 and then again starts the same up and down sequence. What do u think where is the problem Sir? Many thanks for this wonderful video. I have a different problem with my 5kva generator ELEMAX SGH7600EX. I live in an off grid area so I need it to charge my batteries whenever it rains. This generator output is 220v 35HZ which is unsuitable for my inverter. I always increase the rpm to get 275v 43HZ then my inverter will accept. I have changed the avr to a new one and even reWinded the Coils to no avail. I need your advice. Thanks.

You speak AVR gives 220 volts . But i think AVR regulate the voltage its supplies the fixed voltage to the armature coils so that armature produces fixed magnetic field and when armature rotates the magnetic field cut the stator coil and current is induced in stator and output voltage is drawn out of stator .
You should watch the video again. I explained everything. If I can do calibration for the alternator or generator, minimum I know what you explained in the comment! Also I uploaded another videos on car alternator videos where I explained all concepts in detail. Regards,

Dear I have same kind of problem as you discussed here. when I start generator at idle position it's show 212 v. But when I put on Load they reduce to 198V. May I adjust AVR setting as adjusted in this Vedio??
That's great that you are thinking to attempt repair on your generator set. Sure you should adjust the voltage of your generator to some higher level like 240V or so on no load. So that when you will load your generator, it may drop to reasonable level like 225V or 220V standard. Hope you will be able to adjust your alternator or generator voltage in the method I have shown here. Also you may watch my recent video on another big generator repair on my channel. Loverly job, backup power is back :-D :-D. Looks like a car alternator, but with stator windings for 220-250vac. I hope you checked the voltage with your multimeter, i would not trust the panel meter. I found it odd that the voltage regulator was so far away from the correct voltage, i hope its just because someone played with the setting, and not a faulty stator. If you have a way of measuring the frequency, you can set the engine rpm for the desired power frequency 50/60 cycles, sorry im saying the obvious :-(.
That is great sir. Your understand is very much correct. The AVR settings someone disturbed before me. I corrected it for the perfect voltage setting. I measured the voltage with my fluke and the panel meter was corresponding to that reading. I have a meter measuring frequency. I will try setting that. Your point is very valid and have strong value. I set it so that it works just fine with lamps, induction motors like fans, my laptop charger and other cell phone chargers. Dear friend Abdul Khaliq thanks for watching and thanks for sub. Your question have two parts: 1. The hard car brake paddle in any assist brake car during engine stop, is normal. This is in common in any car make and model. So don't worry for that. 2. If your car paddle is going too down close to floor, this is the result of worn out rear brakes or if you replaced brake shoes recently, it is the result of not properly adjusted brakes. So check if your brake shoes are very old, replace them with new and adjust brakes properly. Watch my other videos for rare brakes repair. Replacement of brake shoes and pads are compulsory for you and your car safety. Better check for all four wheels brakes and air bleeding is also a good idea. Please don't hesitate to ask anything anytime. Best regards and wish you good luck with your repairs.

The AVR takes a sample of main voltage and uses it with exciter winding to give proper excitation to the rotor. if 240 v winding is putting out 250, the avr takes the exciter winding and thru electronix in avr exciter sends a lesser amount of D.C. to brushes to energize the field. if u get 220 instead of rated 240. exciter puts more voltage d.c. to brushes. U got that?

You can change it by rewinding the generator. The avr could only provide fine tuning of voltage. Other way is use a step up transformer of same VA rating like generator to step up the voltage from 120v to 220v ac.
Sir, I have 3800watts generator with gas kit my generator was producing 150 voltage then i change my avr but now its producing 310 voltage then i tried to decrease voltage but couldn't successful plz help me what should i do? Should i purchase new avr?
+zohaib anwer dear friend seems that you got a faulty avr. Try my method to set up voltage if there is setting potentiometer on the avr. Otherwise go for a new original avr replacement. Regards.
Frequency is a factor of engine speed. You should take care of governer and fuel. It you are running on petrol then tune up your carburetor. If you are running on gas then take care of your gas kit. On gas kit repair and tune up I have a video on my channel. Must watch that. Regards,
Voltage fluctuation ki go reasons hothi hen. Agar ap ka engine speed ziyda vary kar raha ho. Second ap ka voltage regulator kam na kar raha ho ya carbón brush kharab hon ya pher slip rings ki surface kharab ho ya gandi ho tho voltage fluctuation hothi hae.

I think in such a situation the AVR maybe bad. You should check voltage on carbon brushes at normal RPM when there is Zero power production, if there is no voltage at carbon brushes and then voltage develop at higher rpm and then out put power also develop, Check for AVR input power in both cases. If there is input power to AVR at normal rpm and no out put on brushes, means a bad AVR. You should replace the AVR with another new good known avr. Hope this may solve your problem. Might want to get a new brush set brushes holder. not being well mounted well will give loose contact and mess up slip rings. seems there is a bad wire in harness, maybe from being twisted to much.
Is ka engine check karen keh us ki speed ziyada oper neechay tho nahi jathi. Agar wo sahee ho tho yeh wala avr replace kar len aur adjust kar lena jaisa thareeqa mae nay bathaya hae. Regards,

Apnay engine ki fuel supply ko smooth banaye. Kabhi kabhi kharab gas kit ki waja say gas supply engine ko smooth nahi hothi jis ki waja say aisa hotha hae. Gas kit maintenance kay leye meri gas kit wali video dekheye. Second reason speed control governer ka kam na karna hotha hae. Usay check kejeye keh wo apna function sahee say kar raha ho. It had serious engine defect like wornout rings or defective oil seals on valves and wornout valve guides. All you need to do to overhaul the engine. All these deffects will be addressed in overhauling process. Meanwhile you can use used oil from bike unless it's too much dirty or black.

I was getting 310V from my generator and I tried this method. Now I am getting 240V. Thanks a lot Sir.

Seems you have a bad AVR. Replace, caliberate and then check. Also check AVR connections for any loose point etc.

Dear friend then your generator AVR could be located somewhere in the terminal box. Check and do as directed in the video. Best wishes.
My DEK 6500EL doesn't have an AVR in that position. I have a large capacitor (Dianz CBB60) Anyone know where the AVR is located on that machine?

That's great that you are thinking to attempt repair on your generator set. Sure you should adjust the voltage of your generator to some higher level like 240V or so on no load. So that when you will load your generator, it may drop to reasonable level like 225V or 220V standard. Hope you will be able to adjust your alternator or generator voltage in the method I have shown here. Also you may watch my recent video on another big generator repair on my channel. Looks like a car alternator, but with stator windings for 220-250vac.
I hope you checked the voltage with your multimeter, i would not trust the panel meter.
I found it odd that the voltage regulator was so far away from the correct voltage, i hope its just because someone played with the setting, and not a faulty stator.
If you have a way of measuring the frequency, you can set the engine rpm for the desired power frequency 50/60 cycles, sorry im saying the obvious :-(.
That is great sir. Your understand is very much correct. The AVR settings someone disturbed before me. I corrected it for the perfect voltage setting. I measured the voltage with my fluke and the panel meter was corresponding to that reading. I have a meter measuring frequency. I will try setting that. Your point is very valid and have strong value. I set it so that it works just fine with lamps, induction motors like fans, my laptop charger and other cell phone chargers. Dear friend Abdul Khaliq thanks for watching and thanks for sub. Your question have two parts: 1. The hard car brake paddle in any assist brake car during engine stop, is normal. This is in common in any car make and model. So don't worry for that. 2. If your car paddle is going too down close to floor, this is the result of worn out rear brakes or if you replaced brake shoes recently, it is the result of not properly adjusted brakes. So check if your brake shoes are very old, replace them with new and adjust brakes properly. Watch my other videos for rare brakes repair. Replacement of brake shoes and pads are compulsory for you and your car safety. Better check for all four wheels brakes and air bleeding is also a good idea. Please don't hesitate to ask anything anytime. Best regards and wish you good luck with your repairs.

The AVR takes a sample of main voltage and uses it with exciter winding to give proper
excitation to the rotor. if 240 v winding is putting out 250, the avr takes the exciter winding
and thru electronix in avr exciter sends a lesser amount of D.C. to brushes to energize
the field. if u get 220 instead of rated 240. exciter puts more voltage d.c. to brushes.

Yes there is sort of adjustment to be done to governor to increase engine rpm.

You can change it by rewinding the generator. The avr could only provide fine tuning of voltage. Other way is use a step up transformer of same VA rating like generator to step up the voltage from 120v to 220v ac.
Or use a transformer and keep the warranty on ur generator..

+zohaib anwer dear friend seems that you got a faulty avr. Try my method to set up voltage if there is setting potentiometer on the avr. Otherwise go for a new original avr replacement. Regards.

how to deal with dropping frequency, my generator is not giving 50 Hz, it is dropping to 44 Hz and then shuts down after that..
Frequency is a factor of engine speed. You should take care of governer and fuel. It you are running on petrol then tune up your carburetor. If you are running on gas then take care of your gas kit. On gas kit repair and tune up I have a video on my channel. Must watch that. Regards,

Voltage fluctuation ki go reasons hothi hen. Agar ap ka engine speed ziyda vary kar raha ho. Second ap ka voltage regulator kam na kar raha ho ya carbón brush kharab hon ya pher slip rings ki surface kharab ho ya gandi ho tho voltage fluctuation hothi hae.

I think in such a situation the AVR maybe bad. You should check voltage on carbon brushes at normal RPM when there is Zero power production, if there is no voltage at carbon brushes and then voltage develop at higher rpm and then out put power also develop, Check for AVR input power in both cases. If there is input power to AVR at normal rpm and no out put on brushes, means a bad AVR. You should replace the AVR with another new good known avr. Hope this may solve your problem. Might want to get a new brush set brushes holder. not being well mounted well will give loose
contact and mess up slip rings. seems there is a bad wire in harness, maybe from being

If the power is less and engine comes to diy, you have engine head and piston rings problem. You should check them and replace bad parts.
must have a digital meter on cam so we can see while your adjusting otherwise 8s fake..

240 volts is not good for devices, It must be 220 volts.
This is idle voltage output, when we put on load it will dropped to 220 or below as per wattage

2) جنریٹر کا یہ مسئلہ حل کرنے کے لیئے مجھے کیا کرنے کی ضرورت ہے؟
3) کیا میں موٹرسائیکل کا استعمال شدہ موبی آئل استعمال کر کے کام چلا سکتا ہوں؟

It had serious engine defect like wornout rings or defective oil seals on valves and wornout valve guides. All you need to do to overhaul the engine. All these deffects will be addressed in overhauling process. Meanwhile you can use used oil from bike unless it's too much dirty or black.
I wouldnt run that motor without its cooling cover...
