Make sure to remind people not to damage the enamel of the coils when removing the stator assembly, if that enamel gets damaged they get a short and the coil is ruined. Not saying never to remove one the way you did, just remind people not to be brutal about it.
Not realy, problem is even stock alternators can overheat with highload at low RPM like engine ideling, that is not a problem in a normal vehicle. But for RV that can be an issiu if you want to charge the battery while ideling. You realy need to change the whole alternator or you might get bad luck, get stuck in traffic with a nearly empty RV battery and toast your alternator to death.
If you connect the windings in series, the power is increased at a higher rpm. At lower RPM, especially at idle, the alternator lacks power and at high power demand, the alternator can burn out. For this reason, alternators are not produced in this way.
Yup, but in a daily driver is not a good idea. Usually drops idle amps on doing this. Pretty annoying sitting at a light at night and your headlights dim only to brighten when hitting the gas as the light turns green.

2 questions i have on this are like some stated about it burning the altenator up or shorting 1. Will it last in a car that sees 6,000 rpm from time to time? 2. Is this a good mod for durability in a daily driver (with a good battery reserve?). 3. Does it have to be rewound for double the power or can you just awind or amp up the output a little bit? Im still learning alot of this stuff myself but definitely interests.
#1 You have three questions. Not two. #2 I can't understand your first line. Are you saying you have two questions which are about what some other people said about the alternator getting burnt out or shorting? Are you trying to state what the next two... er... um... three questions are referring to? Answers to questions: 1. Will it last in a car that sees 6k rpm from time to time. Sure, as long as you have a good grasp on the fundamentals of electricity, have good soldering skills, and know how to test electronics components with a multmeter. 2. Is this a good mod for durability in a daily driver (with a good battery reserve)? No, it's not a good mod unless you need a high output alternator. I know nothing about your car except that it's a daily driver. You would have to explain why you might need one to justify if it is a "good" mod. Do you have a 3000 watt RMS stereo system that you normally play close to max volume. Yea, might be worth it if you're constantly draining your battery and your headlights are alwasy dimming. It won't be as durable after you modify it to twice as much power as it did stock. What's a good battery reserve? I have three batteries in my car. I consider that a good battery reserve but two batteries are just as good. Three just gives you a little more cushion.. 3. The mod is necessary if you want to gain more output. Unfortunately, I know of no way to squeeze more juice out of your alternator by itself. Uprading to larger power wires will keep resistance low. It's not actually making your alternator more powerful but larger wire will use it's power more efficiently... at least in theory.

I have a 1st gen focus & I have priced both a 160 amp alternator & a 300 amp,,, If I remember correctly, In order to purchase an alternator that produced more then 300 amps, (at least for my car, & from the company's that I have found,) the cost is much greater! $500-600.00... I need to watch all of your video's & absorb all of your info!!!!!! I am hoping that you can assist me in building a Hi-amp alternator that will fit my focus? When I look at different alternators online, I often wonder if one from another vehicle would fit my car because, I have seen some which appear to be of the same design but, They push 30-40 amps more then mine...but, If you can assist me in achieving 300+ amp's, y meddle over 30 or 40 but, an additional 30 or 40 can mean a good bit!!!!
Small case, Denso, Hairpin. They all look the same, as described in this video.
Others can probably be modified, I don't know how.
Wait did he just draw a flux capacitor?
Do you know how to modify alternators to work with external charge regulators? IE disabling the internal regulator and taking out DF ?
All you need to do is expose the internal wires and find a way to route them outside if the case. Research which connections your regulator needs then use that to figure which wires from the windings/brushes goes where.
Hi I was wondering how can I talk to you about fix my alternator or selling me a alternator for my car
Where do you get a or find a different rectifier to handle the output
I'd love to do this with a a Bosch 160 amp alt I just purchased but I've only seen you do it and don't know where to buy the higher Ambridge stator like you were saying where can these things be bought I have a car audio system and l8ve not to have to buy a $600 h/o alternator
What brand is the Alternator and where can it be purchased? Please Advice
I have an older style alternator from a land rover 88-92 that I want to increase the amp output.
Is this possible?
I hear people saying the alternator needs to be 1990+ because its different tech
Hello,,,,i have a 1998 grand cherokee laveredo...ive got a problems...with a battery voltage meter...the pointer os all the way up!....and at a desame time ive got a it says ...check gauges indicator light...what do you think...this kind of trouble shooting....?
Check it with a multimeter, if its really that high, the alternator regulator has probably failed.
Hello, i own an old car “citroen traction avant” amd is going on 6v but the old dinamo is not enough for the charching process, i wish to modify an alternator from 12v to 6v can you make an video please? Of this modification also? Thanks i need like 80amps from it at 8v thanksss
A standard "12volt" alternator with a different regulator should do what you need. I'm not sure if there are any 6volt internal regulators, so you might have to use an external one.
How do you modify the alternator that reads 2.2 ohms
Does the delta configuration impact voltage? Instead of 13.5 would it drop to 12 v?
trades volts for amps along the rpm curve
Im not sure if I can do this to an Nissan pickup alternator. I have an 95 Nissan pickup XEV6 and I got an extra alternator I'd like to try this instead of buying a 300$ alt. Any tips for me I am pretty mechanical.
And the big case alternators can it do the same?
Can you upgrade 145 amp alternator?
can the ford 4g alt from a ford five hundred be modified to increase amperage or are new parts needed?
using mulitermeter how did you find the alternator amp
i want to do this upgrade to my 2003 eclipse v6 stock is only 85 amp is the process similar ?
Can you make a video in rewinding a alternator for a 2017 Nissan Maxima SV. 3.5L? I need at least 300amps for my audio system. Most companies don't make a HO Alternator for my vehicle but one company told me $899.00 + shipping/handling and $89.00 for big 3 upgrade wires
No
Brilliant! Thank You!
Is there any difference between a regular stator and a high output one?
High output alternator "manufacturers" generally just modify the stator, and use the original, unmodified rotor.
Thanks
High output stator (the part of the alternator that stays still) has larger copper windings, thus it can take on more current than a smaller one.
@@OtherDalfite No one makes "high output" stators.
@@TwistTapeTechnology check your previous comment according to you they do. Not like they sell just the remanufactured stator though
Where would you buy new rectifier?
Or regulator
Help me out and rebuild mine.!
Change from a Wye to Delta configuration.
Can i do this on a denso Dan 1041 alt?
Can this be done to a 2008 trailblazer ss 6.0l alternator?
Is there a way to upgrade a 100 amp alternator it's from a 2015 Mazda 3
I cant find any info on how or where to get a 320 amp rectifier.
ho alt assemblers use rectifiers with twelve, 50amp diodes in their 320amp units.
I have a 180 Amp can it be modified in the same way?
I have a mechman elite 370 GM 2pin for an 06 Silverado 2pin, I am looking to convert this 370 to the 4pin version.. I'm looking for the part number of the regulator they use or one that will work.. I want to switch it to the 4 pin so I can use the mechman digital display voltage regulator..
The "normal" go to, GM regulator, that most assemblers use is the IN6003. I make no guarantees that this is correct for your application.
+TheyDontWantMusic do u know if a stock 2006 GM 2pin alternator will work with a 91102R external regulator? I have one, I just want to make sure it work before I try hooking it up to my new $600 alt..
thanks man
@@tankdog03ify The external regulators just connect to the alternators field winding, so as far as I'm aware, will work with any alternator.
but how to reprogram car computer? to make sure there are no problems
Sorry, I'm not sure
How can I convert a Bosch alternator??
Would a 98 camry 2.2 alt be able to do this, its a denso, sorta looks like your second one you showed
I don't think a 1998 is hairpin, but later models were, that may fit your engine.
Can this be safely done with 80-110amp alternators? Thanks for sharing..
can you do this with any alternator? i have a 93 accord and i'm looking for a high output but cant find any that don't need me to modify anything on the car. can i do this to one of my alternators?
nope
Js alternators
You don't do a lcose up of the terminals you clipped and your finger blocked the view. Anyway to get a shot iof what and how much you clipped??
good job
Did you say The smaller version 100-130 amp alternator CAN OR CANNOT be modified????
Can not, as far as I'm aware anyway.
@@TwistTapeTechnology thank you for the quick reply
Do you build alternators for a price?
Nice!
“And this is a wavy washer” 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
What part of the alt would cause a whine than wont charge battery fully?
Bad rectifier will often result in AC voltage entering the cars electrical system.
I like my 250amp bolt on small case denso from mechman. Thing is a beast. 100+ amp load and still holds 14.2 at idle
Is rebuilding my alter easy to get more amps?
No
Holy shit!! You made a flux capacitor!!! 1.21gigawatts!!!!
Safety squints😑😆
Any ideas for Nissan hardbody alternator
what year/model?
while many alternators can be modified, I've only played with the small case hairpin Denso stuff, as its all I'm interested in.
Can you do one for a 02 mx5? Do you offer this service?
I don't offer this service, you'd have to find an alternaor that fitted your engine.
Can you do this to a Toyota tundra alternator
I'm fairly sure they're a 130-160amp Denso small case hairpin alt, so this is exactly what you're looking for ;)
Nice one
