I am working on a similar style alternator, where rectifier bridge needs to be replaced and soldered back, but what I am facing is since I cut the connections to remove the bad rectifier bridge my wires are very tad bit short and can't solder. Any tips or tricks to extend the wires or complete the soldering? Thanks
Haven't finished my idea yet but recently I tore apart an old skil circular saw and the model I had, has a transmission that yielded about 4,75 turns motor side -1turn blade side ratio it even has a small sealed reservoir for lubrication I've been playing with the idea of using this for a wind turbine in combination with belt drive pulley sizing because that alone won't be quite enough to turn a typical alternator fast enough. I'm a welder/fabricator so I can build a custom sized turbine to create the necessary power to turn this hopefully being light enough but also been playing with the idea of flywheel effect using some type of starter

Make sure to remind people not to damage the enamel of the coils when removing the stator assembly, if that enamel gets damaged they get a short and the coil is ruined. Not saying never to remove one the way you did, just remind people not to be brutal about it.
If you connect the windings in series, the power is increased at a higher rpm. At lower RPM, especially at idle, the alternator lacks power and at high power demand, the alternator can burn out. For this reason, alternators are not produced in this way.

Yup, but in a daily driver is not a good idea. Usually drops idle amps on doing this. Pretty annoying sitting at a light at night and your headlights dim only to brighten when hitting the gas as the light turns green.

Not realy, problem is even stock alternators can overheat with highload at low RPM like engine ideling, that is not a problem in a normal vehicle. But for RV that can be an issiu if you want to charge the battery while ideling. You realy need to change the whole alternator or you might get bad luck, get stuck in traffic with a nearly empty RV battery and toast your alternator to death.

I need to get more power to my car audio system. I have looked at buying an alt but cant find any. The one I have is only 100 amp but can get a 120 amp. @best butter I have looked high and low. My Vauxhall Astra has a 100amp alt. I can get a higher 120 amp but that's it specific to my car. Not sure if you can get a 160 from another car and make it fit. I have emailed Mechman and Singer and they don't do Euro car alts. The only options that I think I have are to fit a dual alt so would need to find a mounting kit and longer belt or to modify an alt to put out 200 amp (240 if I can get a second hand 120 amp and modify)

I've dismantled a similar alternator, and while it looks like it can be modified in the same way, I haven't personally tried it, so can't confirm that it will actually work. You might be better off finding another alternator and swapping the stator into your alternator.

I take it you don't know how to do basic 3 phase math. You don't get double the current form going from a Wye to a Delta configuration. You only get 1.73, in theory. In reality due to over driving your diodes, plus other current carrying circuits in your system, you will be lucky to see a 50% gain in current and with the trade off of likely having your system voltage dropping off badly at idle. That and with the now theoretical 173% of stock output the odds are your diodes will live rather short lives too. Not a bad video how to modify a alternator though. well done, but just a bit of math mixup common with working with 3 phase power systems plus solid state devices being overdriven.

if its a small case hairpin alt like in the video, then its had one half modified to do 240amps, meaning the second half can be modified to do 320amps. It will do slightly less output at idle though as a result.

Very good except I'm hung up on something you said... And I could b wrong bug I don't think so but, it seems that with the wye, or star, configuration, the coils are in parallel with each other, while the coils in the delta configuration are in series.. Further evident by the fact that components in parallel with each other typically hold the same properties, I. E. Voltage, while those components will add on to each other when wired in parallel.. With this principle, I can see how changing it from a wye configuration to a delta configuration will net more power. If I'm wrong then i apologize.

A standard "12volt" alternator with a different regulator should do what you need. I'm not sure if there are any 6volt internal regulators, so you might have to use an external one.

I'm in Australia, and generally don't do rebuilds. If your alternator looks like what's in the video (internally) then I would assume it could be modified to do 320amps.
Thanks for making the video! I have a quick question for you, i have a PowerMaster Alternator 58302. It's a 220 amp 14.8 volt power alternator 2 pin style - L/F. I had it originally hooked up as a one wire alternator because that's what it said in the add when i bought it but have since found out it's a OE style unit. I've only gotten 13.4-13.8volts. How do i make this thing work?? It's a super expensive alternator and brand new. Do i need to change the regulator out? It's going from 13.8, 11, 9, 0, than back to 13.8 on the voltmeter then on repeat every few seconds, I have no ECU. Any info would be super helpful!

All you need to do is expose the internal wires and find a way to route them outside if the case. Research which connections your regulator needs then use that to figure which wires from the windings/brushes goes where.

I've been running a 320amp daily for over 5 years now. If you're not charging at idle, then your pulley ratios are wrong.

The voltage is the same before and after the modifications, about 14.4 volts in this case.

Small case, Denso, Hairpin. They all look the same, as described in this video.
Others can probably be modified, I don't know how.

As far as I'm aware, if it has the same stator, and rotor, it can be modified.

This was a 160amp alternator, it now does a measured 320amps.
320 is double 160.... I'll stick with my maths thanks ;)

ho alt assemblers use rectifiers with twelve, 50amp diodes in their 320amp units.

Do you know if this procedure will work on the newer 180a & 220a hairpin alternators?
Very good except I'm hung up on something you said... And I could b wrong bug I don't think so but, it seems that with the wye, or star, configuration, the coils are in parallel with each other, while the coils in the delta configuration are in series.. Further evident by the fact that components in parallel with each other typically hold the same properties, I. E. Voltage, while those components will add on to each other when wired in parallel.. With this principle, I can see how changing it from a wye configuration to a delta configuration will net more power. If I'm wrong then i apologize.

Hello,,,,i have a 1998 grand cherokee laveredo...ive got a problems...with a battery voltage meter...the pointer os all the way up!....and at a desame time ive got a it says ...check gauges indicator light...what do you think...this kind of trouble shooting....?
Check it with a multimeter, if its really that high, the alternator regulator has probably failed.
And for 120A Bosch alternator, any solution ?
How would you do this to a ford 3g alternator. Large case I have been trying to find a. High output stator and the most I can find adds 40 to 50 amps and I need more

A standard "12volt" alternator with a different regulator should do what you need. I'm not sure if there are any 6volt internal regulators, so you might have to use an external one.

Hmm u learn something everyday... Do you do rebuilds?. I have a high output alternator that stopped recharging.. And was wondering it someone could rebuild it to output 320+ amps?. Its made to do 250Amps at the moment.. If you can help me or know someone who can. I'd be grateful for any feedback! Thanks
I'm in Australia, and generally don't do rebuilds. If your alternator looks like what's in the video (internally) then I would assume it could be modified to do 320amps.
They sell high output alternators, it's pretty freaking important that yours always works, don't mess with factory..you'll be walking
Yes, they modify and sell stock alternator parts to do higher output. That's what this video shows... The same as they sell...
Thanks for making the video! I have a quick question for you, i have a PowerMaster Alternator 58302. It's a 220 amp 14.8 volt power alternator 2 pin style - L/F. I had it originally hooked up as a one wire alternator because that's what it said in the add when i bought it but have since found out it's a OE style unit. I've only gotten 13.4-13.8volts. How do i make this thing work?? It's a super expensive alternator and brand new. Do i need to change the regulator out? It's going from 13.8, 11, 9, 0, than back to 13.8 on the voltmeter then on repeat every few seconds, I have no ECU. Any info would be super helpful!

Do you know how to modify alternators to work with external charge regulators? IE disabling the internal regulator and taking out DF ?
All you need to do is expose the internal wires and find a way to route them outside if the case. Research which connections your regulator needs then use that to figure which wires from the windings/brushes goes where.
