MrJuiceboxhero Yes and No. Lidstrom for the most part was an Offensive guy but what made him so special and what got him id say at least 40% of his assists in his career was his initial D-zone outlets passes. Passing is offensive but not when you are turning defense into offense. Lid was second to none at finding the first pass.
What a wonderful man, husband, father, leader, the world could us more like Nick! Thank you for the years here in Michigan you were always an example to aspire to!
Im not a Detroit fan and I'm a die hard Sabres fan but one thing that I can say is that this man is in a league of his own as far as a player, human being and a parent. He will without a doubt be missed not only by red wings fans but by all of us NHL fans. I own 3 authentic Ryan Miller Jerseys and if I was gonna pay any money for another one there is without a question that #5 C will be it. Niklaus Lidsrtom you will be missed and you earned a future hall of fame trip.
I love how humble he is. When you think of a player like him, you'd think he's got a huge ego. But he doesn't and that's what I love most about him. He takes time to actually meet fans, always a team player, never wants the glory all to himself. I'm glad he was with Detroit, and I got to see him play. Happy retirement Lidstrom!
The thing I loved about watching Nick kind of sums up my love for hockey and the hockey community, even in the intensity of the NHL. Every time you see someone press him in his zone, even if they had a charging start or could possibly make a huge hit on him, they'd always back off a little bit. I think it was not only the knowledge that he was a great defenseman who could use other's momentum against them and probably either take the hit and make a play, but just out of respect for who he was, no one would take cheap hits on him or just hit him for the sake of making a hit. It was really cool to watch and I was definitely blessed to grow up in Detroit seeing a role model work so hard and make it look so easy
It’s unfortunate they never showed Peter Forsberg the same respect. You had one of, if not the arguably best hockey hockey player ever end his career early due to injuries. The Avs - Wings rivalry was a huge part of my youth and Lidstrom and Forsbergs were the best part of it.
Entering the locker room at JLA is amazing. All the legends and Stanley Cups, Detroit Red Wings are an elite franchise with the history and tradition. Still had Pavel Datsyuk on the team before he went back to Russia. On a side note, I was at the game in Dallas on the second half of this back to back. As a wings fan, I’ve been spoiled for most of my life (40 years old right now).
The best of all times, just the dedication he puts in everything he does and how much a great person(extremely) makes him one of the best players of all times, the best d-men of all times and the most respected player(when he played).
no words can sum up how great of a player nick is. i will miss him . thank you Nicklas Lidstrom 5, you truely are the perfect man and the greatest hockey player to ever play the game.
Thank you for posting this. Nick Lidstom was the epitome of class, talent, leadership, humility, grace and performance in a professional athlete. Name another - in any sport - who accomplished so much in such a dignified manner, i.e., garnering 100% respect and admiration throughout his/her league, for 20 years.
I try not to have idols when it comes to sports players or celebrities, but he is hands down the first man that comes to mind when i think of who mine would be.
Wonderful post, so thanks. It left me with a dry mouth. Lidstrom will go down as one of the all-time greats as a hockey player as well as being a superb human being; not a bad combination, eh. Legends never die, they just fade away.
Big time Sharks fan here. For the record: Nick Lindstrom was the best. Great Hockey player but following the 36 hours, he seems to be even a better human being. Also being a beer league defensive hockey player, I strive to play the game like him (at least in my mind lol) I think its long over due for me to add a Lindstrom sweater to my closet.
You really cant judge my vocabulary or lack there of based on one sentence. You may find this interesting www.sciencealert.com/people-who-curse-a-lot-have-better-vocabularies-than-those-who-don-t-study-finds
I'm going to have to agree with douhuo34 here. haha. But let's remember to keep the comments friendly here. This video has nothing to do with who's the best team. It's just a great showcase on a great player.
Orr, Orr, Orr. Be serious. Orr was great in how far the game had gotten back then, but he isn’t even close to being as complete as Lidstrom. Lidstrom is the best defenseman ever and anyone disputing that is either reluctant to admit that a European player is the best, or simply doesn’t understand hockey. Orr is the Godfather of defense and Lidstrom is the God of defense.
BTW, has Lindstrom ever been involved in a fight or delivered a cheap shot once? I've been watching hockey for the past 20 years and I can't even think of a single occurrence.
Just wondering if he speaks swedish to Holmström and his family when there aren't cameras around. Would be logical since they are swedish or have they adapted or ''become'' Americans and speak english as their mother's tongue.
Again, this is out of Bias. Scott Niedermayer was/is MY favorite hockey player and I watched him turn my favorite team into champions. So yes, Scott is #1 in my book.
When I originally clicked this link, I thought it was a parody of the EA Sports NHL franchise, set decades in the future. Not disappointed by what it really turned out to be though. hah
Actually, he was speaking swedish in the beginning og the video to them when he packed the lunch. Then i guess the production told him to speak english infront of the camera.
Best defenseman in NHL history.
That would be Bobby Orr, but I agree Lidstrom is up there.
Sylhfer I'd put it this way. Orr is the greatest offensive defenseman and Lidstrom is the greatest defensive defenseman.
Isnt Nicklas considered an offensive dman? Lol idk I could be wrong. He's a saint and my hero though
MrJuiceboxhero Perhaps, but not compared to Orr. Orr was nearly just another forward.
Just glad I got to watch him play so many times for so long. It wasn't flashy, it was just non-stop positional perfection.
Hawks fan, but utmost respect for this magnificent player, the absolute embodiment of skill, work ethic, class, leadership.
He was soooooo good and an even better man. Miss ya Nick. He’s what stars are supposed to be
What a wonderful man, husband, father, leader, the world could us more like Nick! Thank you for the years here in Michigan you were always an example to aspire to!
Smartest player our sport as seen. Pure genius! Mr Control
This man has class. He will be remembered as one of the greatest hockey players of all time!

I miss you, Lidstrom. You and Datsyuk. My fav players of all time.

Class act from a classy organization,
The thing I loved about watching Nick kind of sums up my love for hockey and the hockey community, even in the intensity of the NHL. Du är den bästa svenska backen någonsin, jävla legend är du. Du kommer saknas stort i Detroit

I've seen 90% of the Red Wings games for the past 20 years. It's tough to see them all go.
Thank you for posting this. Nick Lidstom was the epitome of class, talent, leadership, humility, grace and performance in a professional athlete. One of the greatest players ever to draw breath... damn near perfect
Wonderful post, so thanks.
It left me with a dry mouth.
Lidstrom will go down as one of the all-time greats as a hockey player as well as being a
superb human being; not a bad combination, eh.
Legends never die, they just fade away.
Detroit Red Wings, The Swedish Powered NHL Team
Hey, the Wings go and get talent. Thanks for letting me grow up watching Swedish Superstars.
Peter Coyote is such an awesome narrator. Prohibition, The National Parks: America's Best Idea, The Roosevelts, and this.

Who the fuck are you? Go piss off idiot.

I have a PhD in English and Literature. Plus I know how to spell Lidstrom.
You really cant judge my vocabulary or lack there of based on one sentence. You may find this interesting

Respect!
U can't tell he's Swedish his English is great
20 years do that.
I 100% agree. it's pretty fucking amazing what he has accomplished. I hope he gets involved in Hockey here in Sweden as a coach or GM or something.
A very complete player
The 8-1 pens lightning game at the bottom was part of the James Neal NHL 36
what an awesome guy
what a legend. detroit was really lucky to have him all this time
You will be missed on the ice. Captain.
Sorry to hear his retirement
I am a big fan of you
Of course Homer had a pickup truck. :)
100,000 views. Awesome.
I'm going to have to agree with douhuo34 here. haha. But let's remember to keep the comments friendly here. This video has nothing to do with who's the best team. It's just a great showcase on a great player.

Hearing people talk about Nick makes me choke up, I'm still in denial...

Jesus he was a god on the ice
Gretzky, Yzerman, etc. lol
I love Lidstrom too
Stephen Sajewski? From Erie, PA? That I went to school with?
10 hawks or pens fans disliked this omg
6:02 Pre game includes Babcock making sure he pencils ✏️ in the nightly healthy scratch of (D) Mike commodore...
BTW, has Lindstrom ever been involved in a fight or delivered a cheap shot once? I've been watching hockey for the past 20 years and I can't even think of a single occurrence.
I think the Wings leaving Joe Louis Arena something that took them further from winning.
Think we can get 100K views for Lidstrom?
damn he's got a big ass house...
Just wondering if he speaks swedish to Holmström and his family when there aren't cameras around. Would be logical since they are swedish or have they adapted or ''become'' Americans and speak english as their mother's tongue.
luxury life top class
everyone should eat oatmeal in the morning
5. Nick Lidstrom 4. Larry Robinson 3. Ray Bourque 2. Bobby Orr 1. Scott Niedermayer.
You know nothing about hockey. Not even a mention of Doug Harvey
+Nate that's out of bias, not ignorance. I fucking hate the rangers.
Oh lord, Nierdmayer would be top 10 but nowhere near 1
Again, this is out of Bias. Scott Niedermayer was/is MY favorite hockey player and I watched him turn my favorite team into champions. So yes, Scott is #1 in my book.
When I originally clicked this link, I thought it was a parody of the EA Sports NHL franchise, set decades in the future. Not disappointed by what it really turned out to be though. hah
Somebody just had to special and dislike this. That's ridiculous.
4:23 I go to that restaurant!
Detroit went from elite of the elite to bottom of the barrel
I love Lidstrom and I enjoyed watching this, but it feels so 60 minutes/48 hours like it is kind of creepy...
Lunch with Homer @ 12:25 pm lol

Haha. Yeah man.
This guy was the ibrahimovic of the NHL
Not at all! Swedish classy hockey defenseman and swedish pretentious football striker. 2 different worlds
@@AviLOrkQ Pretentious, Ibrahimovic is one of the best football players to ever grace a football field PERIOD :)
What?
God's greatest creation, was Nicklas Lidstrom.
Why is he speaking English with his own kids? ;)
(Yeah, I know, it's on camera ...)
Actually, he was speaking swedish in the beginning og the video to them when he packed the lunch. Then i guess the production told him to speak english infront of the camera.
He probably didn't speak English with Holmström usually either. A production decision I guess.
:')
I'd love to be friends with his son. We could be awesome buds.
DETROITTT
cause he got a big ass wallet
no accent what so ever
Oh hey look - it's the league's most awful coach! No, never mind. Not any more.
Even watching this as a 12 year old I got a bad impression of Mike Babcock from this show. Never imagined then how bad it actually was.
