    Extreme India - Cow Vigilantes, Disabled Dating & More: • Extreme India: Cow Vig...
    It’s one of the most populous cities on the planet with 22 million inhabitants, predicted to increase to 30 million by 2035. Nicknamed ‘the infernal Metropolis’, Mumbai is a city in perpetual development. But with millions of people living in slums located on valuable real estate, how can city planners balance the competing needs of the population?
    In Dharavi, the largest slum in Asia, over one million people are packed into the 2 km. slum. But although its residents are poor, there’s a real dynamism. Mahesh, 27, was born and lives in this slum and would never leave it. He runs a recycling plant and employs around 20 people. Dharavi’s underground economy is thought to generate 800 million euros per year. But it also lies on prime real estate in the very centre of Mumbai so its future is in doubt.
    Every day, new towers of glass or concrete emerge from the earth. With the support of the municipality, real estate tycoon, Babulal Varma, razes slums to build luxury apartments for the upper classes. As the city constantly expands, it pushes into the surrounding forests and natural spaces, such as Sanjay Gandhi Park. The fifty leopards who live there regularly make forays into the new housing estates. They attack stray dogs, but also the inhabitants. Each year, several people are killed by feline attacks. At night, forest department rangers patrol to prevent leopard incursions.

    I went to India in 1998. The population, slums, traffic, trains, etc. were shocking, to say the least. Seeing it in person will change you forever. My heart breaks for the impoverished people there. Despite all the craziness, most people were very kind. The food was amazing, and there was a lot of beauty, culture, and history to take in. Cheers to the man working on train safety and the leopard caretakers. I hope the big business stops forcing the slums encroachment into leopard territory ! ✌️ ☮️ 🇮🇳

It’s a great reminder that not everyone starts from the same place. People say hard work and hustle create dream lives, but they forget the unequal starting points. The scene where businessmen saw slums as land to profit from, while thousands of people were living, working, and dreaming there, really stayed with me. So where do they go...they move somewhere else and rebuild the slum. This country is a sespool and human rights nightmare. Class system is old and needs to be abolished. All Indians should have the same option.

Like most kids with an attention problem he missed the whole part of relocating the family's into new houses. Maybe before criticizing and skimming videos, watch them first instead of people paraphrasing the video for you. - I know that's an insane concept to grasp.

    Amazing documentary, watching the urbanization of a country is rather fascinating, there are many countries specifically in SE Asia that are developing rapidly, India still has a long long ways to go. But India can someday overtake China and become the number 2 economy in the world if they focus on investor friendly policies.

    Are they feeding the dogs to the leopard ?? I think that poor black dog was killed. What a wicked town. Humans have been invasive to the Natural habitat of these Wild creatures, also destroying Nature, mountains, polluting rivers, & competing, depleting their foods.
    You need to develop more Cities outside of Mumbai and away from the forestry reserves, so poor people will find opportunities outside and not over-populate a limited land resource for humans & creatures.

    In the gulf states they need Laborer, streets sweepers, toilet cleaners. In Africa plantation workers and other menial jobs are paying better. Therefore these folks should be send to these countries to have a better salary and contribute to India economic growth.

    • @Juanita-gf4te
      @Juanita-gf4te 9 месяцев назад +8

      In the gulf they are treated as slave labour and have their passports taken from them so they can't leave after months and years of not being paid. They are beaten and abused and kept in very poor overcrowded conditions. There are few if any safety conditions in their work places. In Dubai labourers fall from those tall buildings every day. They die of heat stroke and malnutrition and don't even have enough water to drink or bathe in. They often go without food.
