  • A lot to cover in this video. Starting off is Mark's Willys L134 Engine rebuild. It is almost finished and I will get it mated to the rebuilt T90 and Dana 18 that I rebuilt as well. It will then go into the test stand for proper break in. A quick look at some Willys F 134 engines that I am rebuilding and they will be for sale very soon if anyone needs on. Lou's Willys M38 Engine did not clean up at .040" so I have to set up and rebore to .060.
    Scotts Jeep 258 and Travis Willys M38 are next to be done. Not shown is Brian's L134 that is honed and ready to be cleaned and assembled.
    The Hercules engine is almost finished and it was a real hassle of a rebuild. Bad bearings, poor quality parts and more led to a very difficult rebuild. The crankshaft had to be ground again and it matched to each bearing which is a different size. No more Hercules engines for me !!!
    The tooling that I was working on for the Sip Hydroptic 8 Jig bore machine is finished and I show the three different sizes that I made and will test them soon. A combination of negative and positive inserts of different sizes should do everything I need, but I will test them to compare finishes and speed of cut.
    Out in the fabrication shop I have the fuel tank for Scott's Jeep CJ8 Scrambler ready for sandblasting so that I can weld it together and give the inside a coat of fuel tank sealer. Also in the fab shop is the Dana 44 axle assembly that I will be shortening soon. My jig, that I have used to shorten many axles has a Dana 25 on it for measurement purposes. Hope to get to that project soon. Once the axle is shortened I will have to make some custom axle shafts. I have the dividing head out and will show the spline cutting if anyone has any interest in that type of content.
    Finally I am setting up one of my storage containers as quick welding shop. I built a bunch of saw horses in the woodshop and today I am loading them into the container so I can build a 48 foot long bench. On this bench I will make a jig for my steel trusses so each one comes out exactly the same. Everything takes time but I am gaining on all the projects in the shop and around the house and farm.
    Thanks for watching, see you on the next one.

      I use Bill Hirsch exhaust manifold paint on my engines. Just search for it online and the company will pop right up.

      I have a set of 3.73 gears in a model 27 and dana 44 as well. I need the larger 70 to hold the weight of jeep and welding equipment. I don't ever like the model 27 and won't use it in any of my vehicles.

    You have a lot going on, those motors look good. That gas tank will weigh a few pound's, but it won't be some cheap garbage being made that you have to question. I don't know why people question the stuff you build, because you do so many of these Jeeps, and know them well enough to come up with a mod that will work. Anyway, it all looks good. Happy Easter, and G-d bless.

    Not disagreeing whatsoever on sawhorse height. Just thought I’d throw out there that I’ve found it convenient the last few horses to make them 1/4” shorter than my tablesaw height.
    And happy Easter to you, too

    On those bits for the SIP heads... Did you grind the angled slots for the adjustment tang or mill them with a carbide end mill? I like the insert toolholder idea. Need to make a few bits for my SIP heads. Luckily I have bits to measure from to make more. Thanks. ----Doozer

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  2 месяца назад +1

      I used a carbide end mill to get the slot perfect. Held material in an adjustable angle vise. My slot it just a few thousands over 7mm. I started with a 6mm end mill and made the slot a perfect 7mm wide. Too tight. Used a 7mm end mill and the .002 it cut oversize was perfect to the original part and it worked perfectly.

    I'm interested in the Van Norman boring bar. What are you asking for it? Do you have any idea what shipping to NC would cost?

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  День назад

      $850 for bar and tool kit. Remember the bar is stuck and will need to be inspected and rebuilt. Price reflects that problem. It is heavy and will have to be shipped by truck. Contact me directly at metalshaper@comcast.net if you have any interest and I can get your address and shipping quote.
