  • In this video I will show you how the custom fuel tank is coming along for the Jeep Scrambler. Main tank is Tig welded together, and the interior baffle and top of the tank will go on next. A tank drain will be included.
The Dana 44 front axle that I am shortening is coming along great. I have the size finished and the welding is done. Today I gave it a quick pressure wash to get all of the grinding dust and junk out of the center section and tubes. I will get the 3.73 gears setup in the housing so I can measure for the axle shafts that I need to make. It is a lot of work but this is the only way to get what you need when building custom vehicles.
Willys and Jeep engines are all over the shop and I will show you some that are almost ready to run and others just beginning the rebuild process.
A Willys Americar engine block is on the blockmaster and I am sure it will upset some MB/GPW guys to know that I am using it in an MB project that I am tinkering with.
Thanks for wtching, more to come.

Thanks for the video Brian, enjoyed it as always. Man how nice are those engines looking! Like the clamp you made to clamp the block down for skimming it, looks very good!

Brian nice score with the 442 block. By 1942 Willys passenger cars and commercials (pickup truck and panel delivery) had switched to the bearing inserts for the connecting rods. Did it still have the original head? If cast iron it would be 639660 6.48 compression ratio. If it has the same casting number with -L2 stamped by hand it was left thicker and is only 6.1 cr used in the commercials. In 1942 Willy’s actually offered a factory aluminum head 639321 with 7.1 cr these are super rare. With the ‘60 gasser class drag racing lots of these Willys had their original engines yanked out and were probably given away for free.

Yes this is a great 442 engine, still has all the original parts on it. Cast iron head and standard bore block. It has been a long while since I have had one in the shop and I am building it for a MB that I am working on.

Hang in there Brain, Nice to see projects are moving forward. Just wondering if you have heard from Bear from bears rod shop? haven't seen any videos from him for a while

Hello Jack, talked with Bear a while ago and he was going into the hospital for surgery. He told me he would be down for a while and that is the last I heard from him. I told him to have his son or daughter stay in contact with me but as of yet I have not heard anything.

Nice work as always Brian. Do you have any recommendations for a gloss black paint for a frame that is a little rusty, like an encapsulator?

Axels looking great, what are you using for hard oil lines? Might go that way with the 38. Tank is looking great. Thank you!

    • @metalshaperJeep

I am using the standard Copper/Nickel lines for the oil. Easy to work with, bends very easy and flares great. I have just about given up on the rubber lines too many failures and it makes a MESS when one lets go. No worries with the hard lines.

I always like seeing what's going on in the shop, and that gas tank is beefy. Those engine's are beautiful, and i am sure they will last a long time. What kind of oil filter conversion kit are you using, because i want something that will filter better, and help extend the life of the engine. G-d bless.

The oil filters on these engines are factory pieces that Willys used on later engines . There are many Universal kits out there that basically do the same thing, but when I have access to the original stuff I always prefer to use it.
