You want toe in on the rear. It helps for high speed stability and over steer while cornering. More Camber in the back will also help for traction around corners at speed.
Now that you've added the pipe and new carb you need to tune the engine clutch , take about 1 gram of weight off the arms and see what happens, it needs about 3 to 400 more rpms
I like how Quinn goes from Sweet, to WOT Animal, back to Sweet. Include more Quinn, she is adorable. Your channel is great because of the content and the type of people. Example: Charles was great for the channel because, well, he was Charles.
I would use wrist straps in the future to keep arms inside in case of rollover. A friend if mine lost a finger when reaching out during a rollover. And arms can fly out uncontrollably.
That's definitely not a bad idea. My brother rolled a go kart and I was riding passenger. I instinctually put my arm out, and it got squashed between the roll bar and the ground. Thank God I didn't break my arm just bruised it pretty bad.
If its gonna happen, its gonna happen. Saw a guy get his arm lobbed off (elbow down) when he rolled a ford Ranger on I75. Someone will tell him he shoulda had wrist straps. Just stand on his left if one chooses to tell him that, may catch a stump in the grill. 😂

Water jacket, ported, all the secret sauce:), set you up with clutching etc. Totally bring the monster out! Grab my number from Rob or have him pass yours along. Great Job!
for aligning an IRS vehicle, drop a plumb bob in the center of the wheelbase & center of the chassis width (chassis center), center the rear hubs laterally to this point, then align rear toe/camber & caster. then center the front hubs to the chassis center, adjust the front hubs to the rear hubs, then set your front camber/caster/toe. that'll square it all up. i would suggest 1/8 toe in on the rear tires and zero or 1/16 on the fronts, also set camber to -1deg both ends. will be gtg. 👍 on a tweaked or off-roaded rig, u do the best you can....but referencing everything to chassis center will get you tracking straight.
I really like the look of that exhaust system. Can't wait to see the results of your modifications. You two are living the dream of many mechanics, me included.
there's a couple of benefits from having a bolt go up from underneath (if you can't use a rivnut/nutsert) and from Rally car experience... you don't get stones/Gravel destroying the thread making it impossible to get the bolt undone again. but the other, if it does come undone, and the bolt goes down through the hole, it may stay there and not be noticeable until whatever is bolted there goes Byebye... but if the nut is on top and it comes undone, the bolt may be gone, but the nut rolls around on the floor and gets noticed... and it is so annoying you can't wait to stop and see where it came from. so much safer as well.
Brings back memories. I had no 99 of the first year 1977 Odyssey. I bought it used and the upgrades were a DG pipe, Spring kit for the clutch, smaller diameter rear tires, And an Elsinore MX jug. I eventually got bored with it and let it go thinking I would get one of the 350's with some suspension but never did. 63 years old and would still like to get one.
Nice to see you again Quinn. It's always good to have a true professional on the show. I just came here to say THANK YOU for doing some alignment work on the 350. It was painful to look at before. Replace the spindle, get it on flat level concrete and do it again please. Align it with the tires on it. The beauty of steel is it can be bent back just as easily as it was bent in the first place. Take the lower rear control arm off (trailing arm) and straighten it in the press. As for the bent frame, I haven't noticed it due to lens distortion, but some chain and a bottle jack will make short work of it. Special guest stars like Quinn the racing legend should have nothing but the best equipment available.

When Studs go to Deep into a Block we use a Ball Bearing down the hole or something alike to make the Stud Bottom out . Saves em rattling loose or pulling out .
My neighbor growing up had one of the FL400s that thing would wheelie on the street!! Watching this reminds me of how cool I’ve always thought these machines are!
I have seen you guys do a lot of hot laps over the years and they are all great but Ike's hot lap after the mods had me on the edge of my seat! Great driving Ike!
If you sand blast the cylinder's exterior, you will effectively increase the surface area exposed to the atmosphere, helping to cool the engine a little. Every little bit adds up.
Love to see a Hi/Low episode of the Honda motor in the Odyssey an the performance difference as that Carb alone would break my bank (i do get those smart carbs are a game changer, tried one of the lectron carbs on a guys dirt bike at the track an it made a difference) Thanks for the upload, so glad you lot keep having fun an enjoying yourself as that's what its really about
Back in the 80's my friends and I were working at the local motorcycle shops and racing motocross . I was at a big Kawasaki shop in Tulsa Oklahoma starting as a junior mechanic and having the time of my life ( Jet ski's and lake parties ) , We worked with a guy who owned a rental Odyssey Trails track and Motocross track and became big fans of the Odyssey . I felt like we had it made ... with Motocross , Jet Ski's , Odysseys 3 different models of the Yamaha RD 400's and 1 LC 350 ( Canadian model ) it was heaven . You are right , the Odyssey was an all around fun machine that rivaled our Motocross bikes ...almost . But no doubt it is great and fun machine.....the hop ups seem to be the ticket . I'm sure Quinn is a seasoned Odyssey driver but impress on her to start out slower and work her way up ...the new power and those balloon tires aren't a good combo and will let go if pushed too hard ( just a thought ) . Have fun everyone... love what you did to the Odyssey
Ahhhh... LC350 or Elsie as we called them, 375cc overbore, porting, carbs and expansion chambers, happy days. Put it in a lightweight chassis's, hello 140mph.
regarding bolt engagement: good rule of thumb is you want slightly more thread engagement than the diameter of the bolt. that front trailing arm bolt gets pulled back during wheel impacts, be real careful not to rip the threads out of the chassis lol. I'd probably get a new tirerod, fatigue stress is a thing
I'm on the other coast and hearing about the horrible weather in NC. I hope you guys are safe and all your fun stuff isn't damaged. Drop an update if you can. 👍
Probably already mentioned but if you mount your seat support under instead of on top of the frame rails you'd gain some headroom. Spacers in-between could add more!
If you we're thinking of putting a fan on it you could run the fan and pump off the same switch .. you'll get better cooling and you'll have no worries about over heating
When you lube the head threads before torqueing it reduces the thread friction and therefore increases the tensile stress on the bolt shaft. That is okay as long as the bolt shaft does not go into plastic deformation (permanent stretch).
I always use a little bit of the same oil I use in the engine to lightly coat the head bolts or studs. This ensures proper torque readings. My dad taught me that on my first v8 engine build many moons ago.
Yeah it's awesome to see a partner for John that's willing to be involved with the long time ongoing shenanigans. It's awesome. You can tell they're all having fun.
Torque specs are set with the intention of using a clean dry thread. By adding lubricant to the threads you actually end up over tightening which can stretch the studs.
They always run best right before they need rebuilt. And that engine is definitely ready for a refresh. Its run much better with mild porting an good compression. Looks amazing the way it turned out with new parts. 1❤
I can second the RZR seat swap. I've got one in an early full suspension Murray Explorer and another in a Suzuki Samurai. Completely transformative in both rides.
got 20 mins left in the video - once thing I will recommend with those new plastics - add some rubber bushing material with some washers to increase the surface area the mounts hold on to while also cushioning the plastic against vibration and harsh impacts. Even with fresh plastic it starts getting brittle fast under 50 degrees, and it's basically $2 per fender in insurance.
Put the boot in a ziplock bag with some wd-40. It’s how we get life back into hardened RC crawler tires. Also, used to spray down go kart slicks and wrap in Saran Wrap between races. Gets them unbelievably sticky once they heat up
Just adjust the other rear side a bit inwards too, so it tracks straight? A tiny bit of toe-in on the rear, especially on dirt, won't hurt much or? Better than having it drive sideways. The front wonky spindle will be a FAR bigger problem. Overall a very worthy, classic project.
I remember when the Odyssey first came out when I was a kid. I wanted one badly but I already had a motorcycle,a Yamaha YZ80. So Dad said no,stating you already have a motorcycle and you'd have to share the Odyssey with your brother which of course was a no go for me.
Youse guys should start checking the total pounds before start modes and compair afterwards so you know if you're making it heavier or lighter . This mod. Lost your snorkel, probably not a problem depending upon the amount of rain you encounter. It looks like you could drop that seat down two or three inches by putting square tubing detween the seat pan and frame on the bottom side lowering your CG if ground clearance is not an issue. If you don't have width problems you could use wheel spacers to give it a wider track with making tipping (rool over) less likely. Fine tuning the tire pressure can also reduce rool over but you can loose forward thrust and braking traction at the same time . Perfect chassey tune can be very elusive. I discovered long ago horse power can give you an edge but if the chassis is not perfect you will be getting laped by people with less power and a better chassis setup.
You wanna find the centerline of the chassis by measuring the frame and compare that to the toe on each corner. That will allow you to adjust one corner at a time and avoid crab walking
I honestly think the whole thing would be even better if u tore it all down to bare frame clean it up tear apart the engine clean everything up put new gaskets new pistons and or piston rings and do everything brand new and just rebuild the entire thing from the ground up. Obviously save what is able to be saved and repurposed but I would suggest do literally everything possible to make it as modern as possible and as safe as possible. Of course making it faster is a must lol. I think it would be awesome and really cool if y'all would do that to the Honda Odyssey.
Add a led light bar just in front of your front Honda decal and get rid of the old lights. I wouldn't put the led bar where the old lights are, it will light up the front fenders and make harder to see.
The overheating problem in the initial batch of FL350 Odysseys was fixed by installing a lower compression head. As you discovered, the liquid cooled head can get away with the higher compression and deliver better performance.
When we ran an off road track with the later model Honda Pilots, we were having to replace rear suspension arms on a frequent basis; we ended up making our own components from tube as the cost of OEM parts was making it an expensive job. IIRC, the Pilot had a simpler looking suspension setup than this Oddesey.
widen the front and rear wheelbase for the rolling and change the front rims to heavier rims to allow for better steering grip. i see you going straight when trying to turn. Spacer for front will also add weight. Soften the front shocks and it will be even better on steering. thank me later sure u knew this, js.
@@CarsandCameras Thanks for the shout out in last night's video! The Odyessy build was impressive. Get the suspension sorted out and that thing will handle even better!
I like the hasty toe plates. Y'all need to find a point on the chassis whether it's the center line or the left/right rails and then make adjustments off those. Also you could use strings and reference them off the front to make sure all 4wheels are square.
Just got one of these in place of my YZ125. Came with some aftermarket goodies too, awesome to see you guys put some more love into this beast!!! Keep it coming 🔥

I owned a Jeep CJ-5 when these came out. I wanted one, but was modding the Jeep, so had to pass on it. I saw a guy go around a corner in the forest and rolled it down a hill. We ran down there to see if he was okay and he was laughing. We pulled him out and towed him back to his truck where he straightened things out and went back into the forest.
when i was a kid a family friend got one of these. I was like 7. his didn't have those wrist cuffs on the wheel. he rolled it and was wearing a 80's gold watch. The odyssey slid on its side and his arm got on the ground and his tore his arm up pretty bad. that's the only injury i remember form that thing. it was pretty safe , compared to the 3 wheelers
You guys should try some slightly lower profile rear tires with stiffer sidewalls. Armstrong Turf Tamer knobbies would probably work great and would slide much more predictably than those tall round stock tires.
Im really surprised you didn't pressure wash it once you had all the fenders off. I feel kinda robbed of how satisfying that would have been. Still a great video though and I love this machine.
It was great working with you guys on the build and I'm excited for the next round of goodies we hope to send your way!

Spacer for front will also add weight. Soften the front shocks and it will be even better on steering. thank me later sure u knew this, js.
I enjoyed talking to you guys. I can't wait to get the giveaway engine.
I shipped it out Monday!
@@CarsandCameras Thanks for the shout out in last night's video! The Odyessy build was impressive. Get the suspension sorted out and that thing will handle even better!
Oh my. Got a glimps of that gorgeous zero turn!! 🤤🤤
You can soften the hard rubber carb boot by boiling it in a pot of water with wintergreen oil in it.
Spaceballs, the minibike. Merchandising!
Alignment! Too much fun and Guinn has the fire!
That girls crazy my guy!!! She went full rip. Dude amazing 👏 get em out of there comforte zone so they know what they really can do!!!!!
Wd40 isn’t lubrication. It’s a solvent that washes away lubrication. Two stroke oil would have been way better to use on the studs.
Angle iron drill 2 holes so you can mount it on the hub makes alignment easier
when i was a kid a family friend got one of these.
That aftermarket pipe is sweet
Methodical Fabricator does some sweet work.
You guys should try some slightly lower profile rear tires with stiffer sidewalls. Armstrong Turf Tamer knobbies would probably work great and would slide much more predictably than those tall round stock tires.
You aline the frame the ailment
Love y'all's work, keep it up boys
Just a mention when doing the wood stretch of track " Those tree stumps " wish you'd pull them , great build / mods
Those stumps are obstacles, they increase the skill level needed to get good lap times
Quinn is just absolutely adorable! I'd love to see her in more content if she's comfortable with it.
Im really surprised you didn't pressure wash it once you had all the fenders off. I feel kinda robbed of how satisfying that would have been. Still a great video though and I love this machine.
