      Then why didn't this picture get the Oscar in 1956? Answer, Cecil B Demille wasn't liked much by then and got screwed out of his award! It's not only horrible but unforgivable as well PERIOD!!!!!

    This film is the Best picture I've ever seen in my life.
    This film made the existence of God real to me.
    I watch it every year and it's always enjoyable to watch.
    I think Charlton Heston was born to do the role of Moses in this film.
    They should touch it up and bring it into the movie theaters again.

      I agree. Val Kilmer and Sir Ben Kingsley may be good Moseses, but Charlton Heston is the *definitive* Moses where similar to Heath Ledger’s Joker and Christopher Reeve’s Superman, he is the most common thing in people’s minds whenever they think of Moses in film.

    Such an incredible invention the camera is. no matter where you are whenever you film something its becomes a moment you've captured in history as well as that time period you'll never be able to get back or revisit again. But can enjoy once you've recorded it for all time to film! (digital these days of course).

    As a projectionist at the Paramount in the west end we ran The Ten Commandments reissued in 70mm. Stunning and thoughtful film and to this day no one really knows how the parting of the sea was done. I think God must have had a hand in it! Happy memories of 1969. Of course I was very young then! Nigel Chamberlain

    • @davidzweiban5549
      @davidzweiban5549 3 года назад

      There is a short film about how the parting of the Red sea was made in a giant tank at the front of the studio. They use the same technique as DeMille's first film. And if course it's backwards with the water rushing in reversed.

    • @quovadis5429
      @quovadis5429 2 года назад

      Thank you, Mr. Chamberlain, for your interesting reminder of just how much of a global cinematic sensation The Ten Commandments was long after its initial release. I would be willing to pay a tidy sum for a chance to enjoy it in glorious 70mm on a jumbo screen from the balcony of a large, restored movie palace, the barely audible but reassuring "click-click-click-click-click" wafting out of the projection booth just above my head.

    I have this movie on dvd that I got for Easter in 2013. I also still have The Prince of Egypt on VHS and dvd. Both the cast in two different movies are interesting. So, what room is it called where the window is when the TV announcer said, “A window upon the crossroads of the word where the motion picture camera looks in on motion picture history”? Especially at the end of this premiere, as the camera was pointed at the building, is that where the same window is when the announcer said the same line?

    At that time, actors and actresses were distinguished, cultured, elegant, dignified. Now, actors and actresses are only pale copies of their elders, vulgarity, indecency are the new trademarks. In France, it's the same problem, that's why I love French and American cinema of the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s.
    A French fan.

    DeMille accompanied by his daughter? was he sure that was his daughter as she looked old enough to be his wife. People certainly aged quickly back then lol. My dad saw The Ten Commandments when he was only about 13 at the cinema, and it had an emotional impact on him, not so much the music at first but the story, but when he saw it a second time that music really made an impact. I grew up watching these Hollywood Biblical epics, but as I have matured I've learned Hollywood doesn't depict history very accurately, in fact it promotes false history. If DeMille was so knowledgeable on Egyptian culture then he would've learned that the Pharohs never once used slaves to build the pyramids, or any other monument (we still don't know how they were built despite historians trying to convince everyone they used ramps and ropes). The whole slaves thing is a myth and probably DeMille knew it. Nothing wrong with telling a good story though, that's what movies are for.

    • @rcsutter
      @rcsutter 3 года назад

      Although Hollywood does play fast and loose with facts, in this case the discovery was not made until 2009 which dispelled the previous thought that slaves built the pyramids. A tourist on horseback stumbled across a wall that was found to be a tomb where many of the pyramid builders were buried in. Slaves would never be treated with such respect. But DeMille was probably working with the best information he had at the time. It's like the old Titanic movie A Night To Remember made in the 1950's. People criticize it now because it doesn't show the ship breaking in two. But the Titanic hadn't been discovered yet so they didn't know that in the 50's.
