The problem is I've been a monetized RUclipsr for 10 years, now I'm going to get demonetized because I'm a few hundred hours under watch time. They should let us OGs keep building.
I have the same problem but with subscribers. I have more than enough hours but not enough subscribers and I have no idea how to get more before the deadline. :( I wish I could trade watch time for subscriptions.
Question: if you don't get the requirements before the deadline, can you still get monetized once you reach the threshold? Or can you never get monetized even if you reach it?
How does the hundred dollar rule in a month work? If you make fifty dollars in one month, does it roll over till you reach the hundred and get paid or does it get reset each month? Thanks man! Peace

I have un-subbed so many of my favorite channels because I was freaking tired of their complaining about money and demonetization. The quality of what made me like them in the first place dropped due to the constant complaining and threatening to leave RUclips. Like you said, NO ONE WOULD CARE! There are way too many other creative people making content out of love for the craft, for me to worry about one A**hole threatening to leave. Guess what? They NEVER leave anyway. On a side note that is not at all related. What are your thoughts on a "hemispherical" rotary motor. I have no experience with rotary motors but there are a few videos of old timers modifying housings by moving plug locations and modifying exhaust port's and moving the chamber on the rotor in the direction of the rotation. Like I said there's a few vids on RUclips explaining it but no one showing that it works. From an engine building, mechanical standpoint the theory makes sense. Thoughts? Maybe video worthy?
Nobody should give up on youtube! If you want to do it, you should continue no matter your sub count! I only have 31 subscribers and I love making videos. My goal is to entertain people and bring smiles to their faces😊

I created my channel years ago. Is the January RUclips monetization rule only applicable to new channels created after January?
Started my account with this monetization thing happening already, about half way in the hours and subs in less than a month. All about quality and grinding the videos :)
The best indication of future behavior is past behavior. Look at eBay. eBay got huge due to small sellers. However, once eBay hit it's 10th birthday & big business (Sears, Best Buy, etc.) started a footprint selling on eBay...the small sellers got pushed out. This is EXACTLY what I see happening on RUclips! In the end, greed (big $) wins and the little guy loses. It's sad really...

I can understand why google did it - less work, more profit - but for the little guys like us, that extra little bit of cash goes a long way in the grand scheme of things. For all the investors out there, if you make $1000 a year from youtube right now, it would take roughly $33,500 invested at 3% yield to make the same amount. This decision by RUclips is nothing more than a business decision to maximize their bottom line. RUclips has the resources to weed out any "bad actors" without penalizing the legit small up and coming creators but that's not what they are doing is it? They keep raising the bar so that they do not have to dedicate resources to the little creators. Remember, that was the original attraction all of the small creators had to this platform in the first place. We all had an equal chance! It used to be that talent, determination and the willingness to put the hours in learning your craft was what separated the wheat from the chaff. We learned and got better as we went. The viewers decided who was worthy but now it is just business as usual. "Big money looking after big money" Where have we heard that before? I believe most established channels worked their way up and now maybe forget the learning curve and struggle it took for them to get where they are. Other established channels were financially backed right out of the gate with a business plan and a good host. Either way it seems "a lot" of these established channels are happy to see this change. The "I Got Mine" philosophy at work. The views and viewing time that millions of small creators are taking away from the established guys adds up to big bucks and don't let them BS you about their motives. If your channel has been at this long enough that you are already successful then please don't be so arrogant as to think that the rest of us are "bad actors", unworthy or just plain dumb enough to not realize what this is really all about. I started my channel a little over a year ago and am almost at 10,000 views and now they pull the rug out from under me at the last minute! Not true. I made $1000 in 2017 videos but told I don't qualify with only about 3,000 hours of views for the year. Thar's a lot more than $40.

hi friends, I need to tell 2 things: 1) for this channel, my monetization functionality was active, because I was fulfilling the monetization properties at that time. I will be uploading a lot of videos. when, why, how did they turned of my monetization functionality? 2) I will be making videos about "summary of books" and "English cover songs", RUclips had education series for content creators to prepare better contents. a content creater was able to get a certificate. how can i reach these valuable youtube courses, i want to complete all youtube certificates.

This is the first time I thumb-down a video but thought it might be good to do that in this specific case. You seem to give no thought to the beauty of not pandering to the masses and eschewing the LCD (aka dumbing-down) technique that's historically made media consumers intellectually dormant. For many including myself the beauty of RUclips has been that its highly democratic model competed with TV while providing unprecedented freedom of expression and, occasionally, amazing quality, even in some videos that received few views (conversely, there's both crap and quality in highly popular videos). I've uploaded about 5 videos in 10 years for my own use and I'm not interested in earning money here, but I respect the decision of those "losers" as you put it who will choose to stop using the platform based on this change. Also, to a lot of people, 40 bucks a month does make a difference. Also, you speak as if there's intrinsic value in financial success, your "winners" I guess. I think that's one of the main reason people vote en masse for certain unsavory politicians. It's more than ever a sort of prism in the American value system, and it's pretty sad.
I write, record and upload my songs and cannot churn the amount they want. I have two channels and together they make up the hours but I will lose revenue on both. I would really appreciate anyone trying to add to my hours by playing a song or two or mine.

It 4,000 hours of total watch time in the last 12 months which is 240,000 minutes not 10,000 views.

Hey guys this is a great video so I am just like so sad about this because I started doing RUclips a bout 4 years ago and I started doing it was right when I got sick and then my almost got worse and worse so that's all good I don't care about that I'm like doesn't matter but anyway that's when I started and I loved it it gave me something to do it's still gives me something to do that I am obsessed with makeup and skincare at my age I'm 52 and I'm fighting every line every wrinkle everything but also I do other stuff on my RUclips and my other things I do but I myself I'm real I tend to like jump around I'm not scripted and my biggest issue is I do not even know how to connect my Instagram and make my page look professional. Not true. I made $1000 in 2017 videos but told I don't qualify with only about 3,000 hours of views for the year. Thar's a lot more than $40.

I need to tell 2 things:
1) for this channel, my monetization functionality was active, because I was fulfilling the monetization properties at that time. I will be uploading a lot of videos. when, why, how did they turned of my monetization functionality?
2) I will be making videos about "summary of books" and "English cover songs", RUclips had education series for content creators to prepare better contents. a content creater was able to get a certificate. how can i reach these valuable youtube courses, i want to complete all youtube certificates.

This is the first time I thumb-down a video but thought it might be good to do that in this specific case. You seem to give no thought to the beauty of not pandering to the masses and eschewing the LCD (aka dumbing-down) technique that's historically made media consumers intellectually dormant. For many including myself the beauty of RUclips has been that its highly democratic model competed with TV while providing unprecedented freedom of expression and, occasionally, amazing quality, even in some videos that received few views (conversely, there's both crap and quality in highly popular videos). I've uploaded about 5 videos in 10 years for my own use and I'm not interested in earning money here, but I respect the decision of those "losers" as you put it who will choose to stop using the platform based on this change. Also, to a lot of people, 40 bucks a month does make a difference. Also, you speak as if there's intrinsic value in financial success, your "winners" I guess. I think that's one of the main reason people vote en masse for certain unsavory politicians. It's more than ever a sort of prism in the American value system, and it's pretty sad.
I'm not going to quit if I can't make money RUclips is not going to stop me
I write, record and upload my songs and cannot churn the amount they want. I have two channels and together they make up the hours but I will lose revenue on both.
I would really appreciate anyone trying to add to my hours by playing a song or two or mine.
