Fun video. Thanks for sharing!
@Leatherwoodoutdoors hey man I got a few questions I've been working in pa for a bit is elk a good place pretty sure you told me that a few years ago when. I tried to get you to guide me
@@tyler1671 elk, cameron, clearfield, clinton and lycoming counties are all good for snakes
As a Pittsburgh area guy myself, and being unreasonably terrified of every snake... I love your videos with these guys and rattlesnake hunting! THANK YOU!
After the untimely passing of my girls grandmother and having a brand new vehicle break down less then 2 weeks after we got it yesterday this Leatherwood video brought us some much needed distraction from the hectic week we've had.. always love to watch new videos from you and the gang John
Don't buy ANYTHING NEW !!!! THEY ARE BUILT TO BREAK COMPLETELY GARBAGE U GOTTA BE SMART AND GO FOR OLDER LESS COMPUTERIZED MODELS. THEY HAVE SWITCHED TONA SCREW THE AMERICAN EVERY WHICH WAY POSSIBLE. THEY BEEN DOING IT
Another great video. Beautiful scenery and very educational.
North Central Pennsylvania is a sportsman's paradise.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice video. I have been going to that area since 1966. My dad had a camp on Wycoff run in the CCC camp area. I now have a camp near Wharton. This spring I was sitting on the front porch when about 20 elk walked directly in front of me. This year I went to the snake hunt festivities at the sportsman’s club for the first time since the 1980’s. That brought back many memories.
Glad you liked the video!
beautiful country scenes .thanks for sharing
Looks like a bunch of fun hunting fishing BBQ with the guys having some bourbon god bless and stay safe reminds me and my brother best times of my life
Another LWO classic John, Woods, Wildlife, Great filming and editing fun, friendship and good times. Strong work. A good count considering the weather too!
Thank you Craig!
The videography is amazing as usual. We live in a beautiful state. Thanks for taking us along in your travels.
Thanks and you're welcome!
Great video. I look forward to this one every year.
Love Timber rattlers...reminds me of the
Don't Tread On Me FLAG.
Thanks for the recognition. Living in New Hampshire I was surprised when I learned we have rattlers here.
I always thought of them being in airid dry places..like Texas etc..
So my inquizzituve self did research on the Timber Rattlesnake and amazed at the history in this state.
I've been out in the woods my whole life hunting, horse back riding etc..
I know ive heard that rattle sound while out in the woods. But never thought of a Rattlesnake this far north...
There's lots of Granite Rocky ledges for them to sun on. I enjoy watching the videos.
I hope one day I will be lucky to come across one of these fine creatures in the wild....and treat it with respect it deserves..
Man, that salamander brought back so many memories of me and my dad walking in Allegheny state park when we used to go there with our church every year for vacation we'd walk every morning and see all the deer and some times even a bear this was back in the 70's !
Another solid LWO video. The drone footage adds a nice touch. Thanks for sharing.
Man those burgers looked sooooo good now i'm hungry and that garage and location was awesome !
Awesome video as usual gentlemen! Can’t ask for much more in a snake hunting video and love that drone footage at end!
Thanks Aaron!. It does add another level but it does take time to mess around with. Glad I captured a little bit in between rains.
I cant wait for some hunting vids. Love your channel man. You guys seem like some great people. Love your vids.
Well John I've never been a big fan of the Nope Ropes! However after watching a lot of your snake videos I have a new outlook on them. Not gonna say I'm going to be out looking for them like you guys do, but definitely have new respect for them!
Prettiest rattlesnake there is in my opinion. Good footage boys.
Thanks!
enjoyed it as always John, great job.
Thank you!
Awesome video..Great time with your buddies, nothing like the outdoors ,great food and bourbon. Enjoy every moment...Cheers 🍻 👍
I was up on that line last weekend, found a few small ones at the end. Beautiful view at the end of that walk!
We didn't go to the end. We were cutting it close in between rain showers so we didn't want to get caught in the rain lol.
Great video, loved the drone footage. Sinnemahoning is a great place, fished that water many times.
Thanks!
Great video brother, always look forward to the snake hunting videos.
i love your videos. watching them makes me remember going herping, exploring, hunting and fishing with my dad as a kid. i treasure those memories. he instilled my life long love of the outdoors and taught me everything I know. my dad told me he was in the woods as a kid in carmichaels PA and saw a giant mating ball of hundreds of rattlesnakes and no-one believed him. I believed him.
Great video! That's what it's all about!
I just made bread & butter pickels out my garden been jarring them up nonstop. I got em so crisp they make Clausen like rubber... I put em on a lot !! Pa boy here central
Great video, loved the drone footage!
Thanks Chad. Just had enough time to fly around before the rains came. Adds another level to the b roll footage.
Let’s go!!! Been waiting for this video!
Some good-looking snakes and none of them looked like they were skipping any meals. I appreciate that you aren't killing them for sport, and you use the meat. The fish were even treated good. Keep respecting what nature has and your grandchildren will be able to enjoy it too. Nothing wrong with putting meat on the table but respect and enjoy what you don't eat. You have earned a new sub. I watched the video where something was snacking on the buck. Another good video and the little girl took it well when she seen it was a community meal.
I almost stepped on a gigantic massasauga rattler while fishing . P.a. is 25 mins from where i stay in roaming shores ohio. We have a gigantic black swamp , and we have small pockets of timbers and rare copperheads too. I like your morel videos too , great content; thank you !
John been waiting a year buddy awesome video
I'm so happy to watch another amazing video by you guys. I really enjoy watching you turtle trapping and frog hunting videos. Keep up the great work.
Thanks!
Luke, I enjoy the bread and butter pickles as well lol
I have a camp in Emporium. Lots of rattlers there. I recommend scouting over my way for next year. Great video 👍
Just seen my first wisconsin timber rattler couple days ago while out morel hunting. Somewhere between 2 and a half feet and 3' long. Slighly abrupt taper on the tail so i could not say if it was male or female.
Monroeton hunt this weekend!
Look forward to seeing these videos every year with you guys!
I look forward to this video every year!!
Good stuff. Been finding several between 22 and i70 right of ways.
If that’s the road I’m thinking of when y’all were cooking burgers my grandpa’s friends mom live in one of those hoses there as far as I know and the tavern and dump are right down the road I remember spending my summers there with my grandpa at his camp up on the first fork now he has one near the saloon love the vids
Yep that's the road!
A Leatherwood video is always a good thing !!
Thanks
That area looks likes Forbes State Forest Mt Davis area.
Glad you express the legalities of what you're doing. And many states it is illegal to injure or kill any snake. But there are means of getting license or permits for hunting snakes for research. And Anti-Venom programs. You guys are very fun to watch
Thank you very much. We try more and more to put education into our videos.
Awesome film Johnny!
Thanks!
Awesome video. Where in PA is this?
Filmed mostly in cameron county.
These are some of the best of Leatherwood for sure. Love it 👌
Thanks!
Yeah, you’re right they just want to get away but, what if he just lays there and lets you step on him ? You in trouble then.💯👍
Have you ever done a video of catch clean and cook. If so I'd like to watch.
we do have a video on how to kill and clean one and another video on how to cook it. search for them on our second channel. leatherwoodoutdoors2
👍👍Thanks fellas for an enjoyable video
Are the trout stocked? I know some are natural hatched 🐣 but are they stocked as well, where you guys were fishing?
Yes those would have been stocked trout we caught
I go camping, atv in Virginia George Washington National Forest. Over the last [im going to really age myself] 25 years i have seen several rattle snakes. Majority of there color has green on them. I asked rangers, they said there rare also in this part of mountain range. I wishninkept pictures. Ill savve next. Many are on the jeep, atv trails.
love seeing the tape on the tongs, great footage!
I've never seen this channel before and I was really enjoying it until you said that you guys kill snakes
l was looking forward to the snake 🐍 video. Good food, good friends having a great time. nice video. Wow, that countryside is beautiful in Pennsylvania
What length of snake tongs do u all use?
Around 40 inches
Do you guys ever stumble upon copperheads sharing some dens with the rattlers?
@@Thatuptownguy where we hunt there are no copperheads. But if we were in an area that had them its possible to see them with rattlesnakes
Nicely done!
Thanks!
they stock rainbows in wykoff? didn't know that
I didn't either lol. We don't fish it very often.
I LOVE THOSE MACHETTE HEAD RATTLER: YEAH KILLEM.
This maybe a dumb question but are these state/game lands you hunt the snakes on or private/permission areas? I’m a southerner with no plans on ever doing this. Just curious. Love all your videos!
We hunt 100% on public land. State game lands and state forests.
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors very cool! I was born in Western PA but have lived in NC since I was 5 years old. Every once in a while I get a chance to come up and deer or turkey hunt with some family friends. Never knew rattlesnake hunting was a big thing. I’ve binged watched all the videos and really enjoy them!
@@marcus-1625this is John. I started around 2005 and very few people hunted them. When I started uploading my hunts around 2009 it really started getting big when we started putting videos on youtube. It exploded since RUclips and social media brought awareness to the sport. Glad you enjoy the videos.
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors John, good to see great outdoorsman and sportsman have that kind of positive impact through social media. Again, I am a big fan of all the hunting videos. I get my PA fix watching these because I can’t come up every year to deer hunt. But I have an affinity for the state. Can’t wait to see the Flintlock hunts. Thanks again for all the great content!
You guys should post some small game hunting this hunting season. Great video!!!
If we get time. But we hope to
Yellow / Black and all still Timbers
I found that when going into PA that you'd better be good at land nav because they have very few road signs. And no sweet tea at restaurants. What's up with THAT?? Ya'll gotta get with the program for us Southerners! We can use Google maps, but what's with the lack of sweet tea??
Hahaha. Well I've never understood the sweet tea with southerners lol. You'll find it here and there though.
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors It can be 95° outside or 20° outside. Gotta have some sweet ice tea, though! That's just how we roll.
Im in North WV where are you guys
We are all from western pa
I gotta know did you stop for a Willow burger
We didn't stop at the willows this year. We try to change it up each year.
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors the saloon in Driftwood has really good steak sandwiches too
Another great snake hunting video as always!
Thanks!
Im in York PA and one snake did really attack me... is hard to trust them
Thanks for an informative and enjoyable video guys, keep up the good work.
Thanks! Will do!
With that many snakes I wonder what they feed on most.
Mice and chipmunks.
If you got bit that far in could you get back without being in a life or death situation?
Yes, its possible but the main thing is to keep heart rate down. You wouldn't want to run back. It also helps to hunt with a group.
I guess living in Pittsburgh has benefits like jobs and so on. But have you ever considered moving up to the pa wilds? If i moved out of the pa wilds id probably leave Pennsylvania altogether
Well, John is the only one that technically lives in the pa wilds region but they are pretty well established with good jobs where they live. But they love hunting, fishing and coming to camp.
Why do snake hunters always say they are more scared of you then you are of them? I call bull puckey on that one, I have never heard a rattlesnake scream as loud as i do when i see them.
PS: i wish I was joking its pretty embarrassing.
🤣👍
Thats what I love about Pa even though the whole state smells like shit. No permit required to own venomous unless it’s a native species. Gorgeous Crotalus Horridus although they are the shyest of all Rattlers unlike the Eastern Diamondbacks.
We need more snake videos!
hey brotha, new sub for ya here n i am from pa also n i am a u.s. marine vet here 93' to 97' active n only have email n would love to talk more , thanks n talk soon > tom !
I've got a good idea... Leave snakes alone.
Love all your videos. I was watching thinking wow it’s been some time. We’re all getting old. You’re getting grey lol when I first started you were young. This isn’t meant in any way disrespectful.
Oh that gray came out of nowhere lol. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Can’t be disrespectful when it’s true. John is supper old and soooo gray
@@lukesweeney4256 🤣
I’d love some black phase boots.
Please tell me the exact location . I’m not going there, hate snakes !! Lol always enjoy your videos
Well we were in many different places in north central pa but we had to walk along ways away from people just to find these snake. Glad you enjoyed the video!
And if forget to mention if cleaning a rattlesnake don't get no venom on the meat it one drop can kill ten men believe me i have heard all of these wise tails passed down from generation to generation
I thought all the bull elk in PA had collars on them?
Only a select few of them do.
These hunts are contributing to increasing drop in numbers. This should be illegal.
That is not true at all.
You lie
Urban sprawl most likely damages them much more
Yeah there trying to hide from you so you don't kill them and harras them with a fucking umbrella
Imagine if your God allowed a alien species for one day a year to come down to earth while your sitting in your yard with your family sun bathing maybe kids in the pool playing. Then all of a sudden this giant being comes out of no where pokes you or your family member with a fucking umbrella wondering which one of you to kill
The more the better, I just love seeing them.
10-gallon hat on a 2 quart jead
My ass would be wearing snake boots and snake chaps up to my waist.
What length of snake tongs do u all use?
I believe they are around 40"
