Mumbai is an island, land supply is limited (unlike other Indian metros) so real estate prices are on the higher side. Getting a bigger apartment is possible but you have to be willing to pay higher or adjust like the lady posting the video. A bigger/better place closer to your work will definitely be worth it if you don't go out much.

I am a Software Engineer in pune
My expenses are way lower than this, I mean offcourse sallary matters but ya if I would have more sallary then also my expenses were to be same as follows
    Rent : 2500 (10000/4 partners)
    Food : 3000
    Online food : 1000
    Travel : 500/month (city bus)
So total we get is 7000
And believe this is with well to do lifestyle.

Mumbai is expensive... Specially house rent and communication.... Comfortable communication is expensive...A 1 bhk flat in Goregaon East will cost roughly 21K... Your cook will charge 3k 1 time cooking, I travel by auto and pay around 5k per month... Grocery etc will cost roughly 5k per month... I hired my furniture from rentomojo worth 3k per month... So add up 37K per month for single life!!! Now, over and above I have to save and send money to my family since my wife works in another city... In Mumbai if you earn less than 120000 rupees PM, you will always cry within. This bloody city is as costly as many central European country.... You can argue that many people live below that budget but you never know how they are compromising!!! Plus I have not even mentioned a few entertainment, mobile data, wi fi etc cost...

South Mumbai or SoBo is crazy expensive if you want to live in good buildings or the other straight away option is chawls and then slums.
Lover how SoBo and South Delhi are both made either for millionairs and billionaires or straight poors. Middle class doesn't exist there now. Except u have a generational home there.. Bandra Mahim and Andheri parle 2-3 bhk can cost around 2.5 to 3 crores. Its crazy. And its not even real south Mumbai
