Part of a good judges job is bringing the two party's to some sort of understanding. Not immediately dismissing one persons argument, however stupid it is.
This would be like dropping off a kid to be babysat, having the kid get into something and spill it all over your carpet and then suing the parents for the damages.
True. If you were babysitting a kid and they managed to cause you, your pet or your belongings harm despite your attempts to coral them, then the parent should have to take some responsibility for that kid. This woman’s dog destroyed her shit and clearly wasn’t properly trained. She brings up the point that she is responsible for having trained the dog to not be destructive, or at the very least she should take responsibility for the animal and the damage caused
Dogs sometimes act completely different when they’re in a new environment and are stressed. That doesn’t mean it was never trained. It means it was anxious.
@table2.0 We don't know the circumstances of this. Nothing (no dog, no baby) will behave perfectly all the time. Lauren couldn't have known for sure that her dog wouldn't destroy some stuff, especially when left alone for who knows how long.
That’s not the shortest case in Judge Judy, the shortest case was with the female plaintiff wearing a hat whose case was dismissed before it even started.
technically, there is legal precedence that if you have a child, you make Mildred watch your child. Your child destroys Mildred's house... but you neglected to tell Mildred your child has behavioral problems... You would be on the hook for it. The difference here really is does the defendant know the dog is destructive from separation anxiety or anything else.
Who would be dumb enough to leave a strange dog alone in their house though? It’s a dog, of course it chews things. I’ve dog sat before, I always stayed at the other person’s house. I wouldn’t let the dog free on my own house unsupervised.
@@desolate2 Nope. When you agree to watch over a dog, you become responsible. It's as simple as that. Forget property destruction, let's assume that the dog you agreed to take care of bites someone while under your care. Then you and you alone are liable for that as it was your legal responsibility to supervise that dog at the time
@@somerandomnon-importantper3219Nah that's bs. If you have someone ie your friend watch your pet and they break shit or would be courteous to pay for the damage. If your aunt was watching your child and when they went to the bathroom your child broke a vase. It'd be the right thing to offer to pay for the damage.
If I asked one of my mates to watch my dog and he destroyed things, I would pay for them. It’s not reasonable for someone to watch a dog 24 hours a day. If my mate was at work and came home to that, I'd apologise for my dogs behaviour and pay for the damages.
Or maybe don't agree to watch a dog if you are incapable of watching the dog. If you leave your house unattended with a new animal in it then there's no one to blame but you.
@@Mehiel-Sanctoria Where does it say that the plaintiff failed to watch the dog? How do you know the dog didn't simply do that damage while she was watching?
@@Mehiel-Sanctoria Na, it's not realistic nor would I expect someone to watch my dog 24/7. You also don't have to agree with me, I'm just saying that if I asked my friend to watch my dog and he destroyed things then I would pay for them. You don't have to though. If you think your dog's behaviour is your friend's responsibility then by all means tell them to pay for the damages. You do you. Just don't expect them to watch your dog again the next time you ask.

I remember another episode where a woman was accusing two guys of stealing her wallet. The judge asked her what was in it and she said: “$50”, and one of the morons said: “no there was only $40 in it.” Case Closed*
In what universe is someone not responsible if their dog tears up someone's house? When I was young, my parents minded my grandparents' dog. When we were out it took a plant off a table and dragged the pot all over a white rug. My grandfather apologized and bought my mother a fur coat to try to make up for the mess. I can't imagine a dog of mine doing something like this and not feeling responsible. Same if a kid of mine caused damage at someone's house. This ruling was ridiculous. Why would the show select this case and bring people here just to have the judge decide there's no case without even hearing any testimony?
When you decide to bring something into your home that you've opted to take responsibility for during that time, like babysitting an animal or a child, and that animal or child causes damage, then lawfully any damage they caused is your responsibility because they were under your care when it happened. There's been many cases on JJ based on this exact scenario, where an animal or child either gets hurt or causes damage while in someone else's care (like being invited to a birthday party) and the homeowner and animal owner/parent take it to court for damage repair/vet bills/medical bills. That's why I don't babysit anyone else's animal!
If you are house sitting you need the be watching the dog so it doesn’t do damage and if you are leaving it alone contain it properly so it cant do damage. simple
There's an easy alternative to this counter.

"Me, Your Honor, but-"

@@ThatOneMobilePlayerHow do you know that? I don't recall anyone getting a chance to explain what exactly happened
@@CYBER_N0T if she was paying attention she would’ve notice the dog potentially making massive damage because no one is going to sue for a damage pillow
@@ThatOneMobilePlayer What if the dog caused the damage when she was asleep? Do you expect her to stare at the dog for 24 hours a day?
@@CYBER_N0T people usually dogsit for most of a DAY and then the owner picks up the dog, people don't usually dogsit through the night.
"alright I started the timer for the popcorn and wait wtf it's over"
My grandpa used to watch this every day, I remember going to my grandma's house and always seeing him in the same spot with his judge Judy pillow next to him and his chair legs up watching his show happily. He never really left the house or got up from his spot but I remember when I came over and he was up I loved to talk to him he always called me super brat and my mom brat. It's been around 2 years I think but it still hurts R.I.P Cory Jones I love you lots and miss you and so do grandma and mom ❤

Loved judge Judy actually waving to the plaintiff good bye
court speedrun any%
As the dog owner I would’ve offered to pay for the damages that my dog made.
Why? She left the dog in her custody. She was in charge of the dog.
@@Random-xw1fg
Exactly.
@@Random-xw1fgThere’s also, as far as we see, no proof which dog did the damage.
Youre an i d i o t
That's really nice of you but it not required. An the sitter most certainly can't sue. The dog was under the sitter supervision, making them responsible for any damages.
the goodbye did it for me 😭😂
“GOODBYE! 😄 👋👋👋” so real
0:20 THE PERSON ON THE RIGHT OH MY GAAWWWDDD IM DYING
There's a faster case than this one - centred around a purse theft ... lasts about 20 seconds.
If you’re the dog sitter you should’ve been watching the dog. Shocker 😮😮😂
Shit! We need her on every court!
We sure do have some idiots on this world.
0:25 that girl in the back on the right😂😂😂
She's like seriously lady?
Part of a good judges job is bringing the two party's to some sort of understanding. Not immediately dismissing one persons argument, however stupid it is.
The way she said bye in this will never get old 😂
The defendant should have got her money back too since plaintiff obviously didn’t do her job.
They flew those people out there for that 😂
It's located in California, and these people seem like they're from California as well. Most likely an effortless attempt to get on TV
Judge Judy Speedrun record: 30 seconds
the defendant didn't even have to speak. LOL
THE OTHER ONE DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO SPEAK LMAOOOO
Should've kept it in court. Owners are responsible for their pets.
When YOU accept responsibility to take on a task,
YOU are now the responsible party.
@@kevinjones5715That is a really good point. She accepted responsibility for the dog. That makes her... Responsible. I have now changed my mind
the way judy waves goodbye is actually comedy gold
It would feel so good to say bye and wave to rude customers like Judge Judy did 😭
0:25 the girl in the background is the mood for all of us and judge judy cause BIHHHH HUH???? did that really come out her mouth? 😂😂
I actually think that the defendant is liable for her dog's damages. If she was a decent person she would offer to pay for the damages.
She’s supposed to watch the dog she’s supposed to be pet sitting 😂 the owner isnt responsible for that
The 2nd sentence is correct, but that doesn’t make them liable.
@@RBSmadathe second sentence isnt even correct, because, if she did her damn job of watching the dog, none of this would have happened to begin with
She knows how ridiculously clear-cut this case is, might as well end it on a funny note
She is objectively the best human 😂
This would be like dropping off a kid to be babysat, having the kid get into something and spill it all over your carpet and then suing the parents for the damages.
0:12 Actually starts here
dude it's a 50 second video
@@cultofmel But doesn't officially start until 0:12
I agree with this sentence. However, she could have told that her dog would probably make a mess so she would have put her stuff out of its reach.
0:24 the girls face in the back is so real
I disagree with Judy here. If you haven’t house trained your dog, you shouldn’t be putting it in someone else’s house.
"Do you have a dog?" "Yes, but-" "Case dismissed. Goodbye!"
The plaintiff had no way of proving which dog did it and lost instantly.
Dogs sometimes act completely different when they’re in a new environment and are stressed. That doesn’t mean it was never trained. It means it was anxious.
Except she was supposed to be watching the dog and if the dog was able to destroy that much she obviously wasn't watching the dog lol
@table2.0 We don't know the circumstances of this. Nothing (no dog, no baby) will behave perfectly all the time. Lauren couldn't have known for sure that her dog wouldn't destroy some stuff, especially when left alone for who knows how long.
It would have been funnier if she tried to sue the dog I mean there’s a lot of stupid people out there that would do that
POV: you wanna get an s rank on a level but you can get an achievement for completing it in less than 30 seconds
Funny thing, since in Belgium, the owner of the dog indeed is always held responsible.
There's even insurance coverage for that.
That’s not the shortest case in Judge Judy, the shortest case was with the female plaintiff wearing a hat whose case was dismissed before it even started.
Do you have a link?
technically, there is legal precedence that if you have a child, you make Mildred watch your child. Your child destroys Mildred's house...
but you neglected to tell Mildred your child has behavioral problems...
You would be on the hook for it.
The difference here really is does the defendant know the dog is destructive from separation anxiety or anything else.
Eh, i think you would know...no?
Especially if it's not the first time you left them alone.
Who would be dumb enough to leave a strange dog alone in their house though? It’s a dog, of course it chews things. I’ve dog sat before, I always stayed at the other person’s house. I wouldn’t let the dog free on my own house unsupervised.
@@rebeccashields9626Most grown dogs DON'T chew things. That's usually puppy behavior. She should have paid for the damage.
It'd be the right thing to offer to pay for the damage.
once you let someones dog in your house expect everything
Someone told me that owning a dog is like having a toddler as far as the potential for damage.
@@danielhoang289 That too :)
@@Mehiel-Sanctoria Na, it's not realistic nor would I expect someone to watch my dog 24/7. Obviously it's not black and white, but if you were watching a friends dog you would probably know that dog, and it could be out of the ordinary for it to destroy your home.
@@Mehiel-Sanctoria so if you asked a good friend to watch your dog and your dog destroyed their furniture, you would rather just end the relationship? that's crazy

"You were dog sitting. During this time the dog is your responsibilty. Case closed."
She literal speed runned the court case😂
In what universe is someone not responsible if their dog tears up someone's house? When I was young, my parents minded my grandparents' dog. When we were out it took a plant off a table and dragged the pot all over a white rug. My grandfather apologized and bought my mother a fur coat to try to make up for the mess. I can't imagine a dog of mine doing something like this and not feeling responsible. Same if a kid of mine caused damage at someone's house. This ruling was ridiculous. Why would the show select this case and bring people here just to have the judge decide there's no case without even hearing any testimony?
I really dont understand it either
When you decide to bring something into your home that you've opted to take responsibility for during that time, like babysitting an animal or a child, and that animal or child causes damage, then lawfully any damage they caused is your responsibility because they were under your care when it happened. There's been many cases on JJ based on this exact scenario, where an animal or child either gets hurt or causes damage while in someone else's care (like being invited to a birthday party) and the homeowner and animal owner/parent take it to court for damage repair/vet bills/medical bills.
That's why I don't babysit anyone else's animal!
Granddad bought her a fur coat for dirt spilled on the carpet? Good thing the dog didn't poop on the carpet; then he'd have to buy your mom a new car.
@@megamania501I was wondering about what the laws would say, as well, but now that I know that it makes more sense as to why JJ ruled as she did.
what ur failing to understand that’s a personal problem between two people not a legal one because she agreed to let her dog over her house
If you are house sitting you need the be watching the dog so it doesn’t do damage and if you are leaving it alone contain it properly so it cant do damage. simple
