At the 36 second mark, you are walking past a parking lot on the left. Back in the 1970's and 1980's my father had a friend who owned a small gas station and repair garage, RIGHT where those cars are. At the time, I was between about 7 to 12 year's old and I spent many a Saturday afternoon at that station with my father, his friend, and the cast of characters who used to hang out there. The station remained there abandoned from the early 1990's until about 2010. Any time I drive by that corner, I am immediately taken back to that period of time.
Great memories! I’ve been working in the area since 2005 and there have been so many changes. It’s nicer in a lot of ways, but different, and more expensive
I worked in New Brunswick back in the 70's on Livingston Ave. It was okay back then but a few blocks away not so good. I'm still surprised Johnson&Johnson still has there headquarters there. The problems then are as they are now just more.....
I have been a bit amazed by the transformation of New Brunswick over the years. I remember coming out to some famous bar/club in the 80s and 90s (so famous I can’t remember the name now lol). I always thought the town was a dump. When I started working part of my schedule there in 2002, my feelings had not changed much. I have worked there permanently since 2009 and I think it has gotten so much nicer. My wife and I will go in some nights, have dinner somewhere on George Street and see a show at the State Theater. I’ve gotten to really like the town

12:26 this used to be the Ferren Mall Parking Deck, most notable for the McDonald's in the corner facing us. C'mon New Brunswick, put something up there already!
I’ll keep it in mind. Unfortunately, I am recovering from a knee fracture and my walking ability is very limited right now. But, when I am able, I’ll walk some other areas

💜the city of my birth...good old New Brunswick, New Jersey.
I lived at 208 Townsend Street.
left New Brunswick when I was a little boy
of 6& 1/2 ☹️
Thanks for stopping by! I work near Townsend St. The town has changed a lot over the years
@@imajinest7379 it sure has changed IMajinest. Best wishes 🙏🏼
11:30 now onto Albany Street
Looking good New Brunswick!
13:10 Ferren deck site, looking towards the courthouse.
13:30 Robert Wood Johnson hospital on right. Used to be Middlesex County General, although that was before my time.
2:02 I see the Civic Square Building (home of my old planning school, Bloustein) coming into view on the left.
9:05 building on right used to house Timulty's Pub.
Exit 9......NB NJ....
11:51 nice to see the old train station ahead
14:07 this was once a supermarket called the Fresh Grocer, I think.
14:58 on the right: former site of Doll's Place (now overrun by RWJ)
8:00 now we've walked a couple blocks down George Street.

Damn. I left in '68 and all I see from that era is the train station. 20th century New Brunswick no longer exists, except in some of our memories.
It definitely doesn’t exist anymore. It’s a lot nicer in many ways, but it is not the same

You forget the Rutgers campus...
15:56 I guess Key Foods replaced the Fresh Grocer. Gotta refresh my memory on that one.
Fresh Grocer became Key Foods and they closed. They are supposedly converting it to office space
5:00 so now you're rounding the Heldrich hotel.

It’s been a big whole for a while
Can you walk in the more residential parts of NB like French St. and Jersey Ave.
I’ll keep it in mind. Unfortunately, I am recovering from a knee fracture and my walking ability is very limited right now. But, when I am able, I’ll walk some other areas
@@imajinest7379 ah alright! Get better soon!
@@m._anuDR Thank you!
Have you thought of walking onto the Rutgers campus?
@@Rickyrab This is a walk I can do on my lunch hour. Rutgers Campus is a little farther off.
