- A terrific morning at Kings Cross terminus with a pair of LMS Stanier Black 5's crossing paths headed to York.
First up is 44871 working a West Coast operated service followed by LSL 45231 'Sherwood Forester'.
It was a shame the planned line-up of both locos side by side in platform 7 and 8 didn't materialise however it was still a big treat to see these locos at the Cross on the same morning.

I could image how lucky you have to be to see not 1 but 2 rail tours in one day and the same train station.
The sound of the steam whistle when departing and the exhaust of steam when the locomotive starts - you will never get tired of it! A steam locomotive is a living thing!🚂🛤️
Yes,they are not just machines they are a living thing don't care what anyone else thinks.
Brilliant video! Good to see two Black 5s together at the Cross.
Ah! what a lovely sight Kings Cross as it should be, full of steam engines! Well almost! ❤
3:31 two things.
A) that’s a beautiful shot
B) what are the chances of one Railtour arriving just as another leaves?
I was hoping for both side by side - It didn’t work out too bad though 👌👍
Great video as Kings Cross should be, dominated by steam locos.👍
Nice video great camera work as usual bye for now Philip
The sound and the smell!!! Great video.
The smell was good..! 👌👍
Thanks for a terrific video in not ideal weather.
The point when the new railtour entered as the other left was a great bonus. 🙂👍
Absolutely - Enjoyed that one 👍
Nice one, I saw 45231 at Hadley wood and Finchley road and frognal and saw 44871 at Hadley wood
Great video 👍🏻 The first black 5 passed the back of our house 🏡 at Barton just north of Preston on its way to Southall 😀

Thank you ❤ if you are near Paddington next week try and catch that Black 5😉😁
Glad you saw this as i was just about to share it with you !!!!
@markanderson9995 thank you 😁💕💕
Magic
45231....the spacing of the cabside numbers is totally wrong.....does not take much research in order to get the small detail correct!
I think Ian Riley probably knows a bit more about Black Fives than you do.
Both of them are usually taken to bits every winter and rebuilt in time for the summer season by Ian’s’ company!
@@stevenmoran4060 Ian Riley is top notch...BUT look at photos of 45231 10 years ago or even pre 1968....it is obvious todays numerals are wrongly spaced. Detail detail....not knocking preservationists, but get it right!
I noticed there wasn't any of the electrics fitted to them yet like on tornado & the P2
Yes, that's always bugged me
Thank you Andre...finally someone who can see the error.......46100 Royal Scot is the same...wrong style of numbers
