Dude! This song has nothing to do with trans. It’s him mocking the glam bands of the 80’s! Most specifically, Motley Crue who he once mistook for women.
Steven Tyler was writing a song called Cruisin’ For A Lady then changed it to Dude Looks Like A Lady after the Vince Neil incident lol. In the mid 80s Motley Crue went through a glam-band period, makeup, women’s garments etc. They were all in a limo and when Vince got out of the limo, Steven turned to Joe Perry and said “dude looks like a lady”. It became their first hit song in nearly a decade after years of drugdom.

Motley Crew pulled up to Aerosmith in a limo and called the Aerosmith guys in. The Motley Crew guts kept saying "dude, this and dude that". @@lemhanback9595 Aerosmith, The Cars and Boston are all Massachusetts-based bands but I agree 100%. We still say Dude all around New England. It's funny as an older guy seeing kids still say it around here.
That’s great and all but there’s a line that may not be actual life. He says they went backstage to party and she whipped out a gun and tried to blow me away. I’m sorry but this sounds like he’s saying they got back stage and she whipped a D bigger than mine. Come on, you know that’s what Steven Tyler was saying. So it wasn’t just about. Motley Crew.
The song came out in 1987 dude looks like a lady and it was just a song. Nobody took it by what the lyrics said. It just was a good song about it. I had this even played at my wedding.
Aerosmith were on tour opening for Motley Crue, who referred to everyone as "dude." Tyler took note of how pretty the guys in the band were. That's where the title came from.
You and others keep saying that. But listen and just reading the lyrics. No, not really. That line about taking a woman backstage, and she whipped out a gun and tried to kill me. Yeah, thats actually saying she whipped out a D bigger than mine. Yeah dude looks like a lady. He got fooled. I’m not sure if Tyler has said but a bunch of people are saying it’s a hit in Motley Crew. So please explain those lyrics. Not sure if it actually happened to him. But in those times stories of men being fooled and lured into sex by dudes who look like ladies were being brought to main stream. I’m having a hard time thinking it was all about motley crew given Tyler himself could look like a lady from certain angles. He looked like the guys in Motley Crew. They all did in the 80’s. The words of this song it’s not about Motley Crew.
Aerosmith was partying with Motley Crue, and noted how everything they said started with "dude" Desmond Child, co-wrote the song, revealed that the original version of the song was inspired by a night out at the bar not too long before, wherein - after a few drinks-Tyler spotted what he thought was an attractive girl with teased, bleach-blonde hair. When the girl eventually turned around, they realized it wasn’t a girl at all-it was instead Vince Neil from Motley Crue -“That dude looks like a lady,” one of the Aerosmith members apparently said, and then continued to repeat the catchy little phrase all night.
You do not get it. He mistook some men for ladies and was surprised. He did not say he liked it!!!!!!!! To be specific, the band Motley Crue! You are too hung up on the lyrics literally, he is just having fun!

When they showed him in drag singing it was just showing how easy it is to mistake a man as a woman when they cross dress. The song was definitely inspired by 80's hair bands with the guys having "female" hairstyles. Their hair poofed out, tons of hair spray, and as long as they could grow it.
I remember the big "scandaL" from the James Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only". One of the Bond girls turned out to be a guy...He sure looked like a very pretty girl...I'm just sayin'...🤣

He considers this song to have a bit of a deeper message about love, attraction, & androgyny.
For those that get after him because he’s missing the point or he’s taking it to literally or seriously. You have to remember he didn’t grow up listening to rock, diving into the artists the songs, the lyrics, the meaning behind the lyrics, etc. We grew up listening and immersed ourselves in it. Reading everything we could about the bands and its members. Just remember we wouldn’t understand hip hop or rap like he does, because that’s what he’s used to. It’s as first nature to him as the rock and country he reacts to. That’s why he asks for our input if he’s reading it wrong or right. You can tell him without making him feel stupid, because you wouldn’t like it if the shoe was on the other foot.

This is the first time I have heard anyone relate this song written in 1987 to the current culture war against people in transition. Not surprised though, not the first time I have heard the reference here.
Desmond Child (the writer of the song) recounted the process recently in an interview. To summarize: They thought of the lyric after mistaking Vince Neil for a chick. They changed it to "Treat her like a lady" because they didn't want to offend the gay community. Desmond got involved (speaking as a member of the gay community) and talked them into changing it back and the song evolved from there. Desmond is a behind the scenes legend. He’s DEFINITELY a ladies man. Bands have been playing songs like this waaay before Aerosmith. Drag stood for Dressing Like A Girl because back in the day there weren’t many women actresses. Enjoy! 🤘🏻🇨🇦🤘🏻
The song talks about a man who is mistaken for a woman. According to Desmond Child, Steven Tyler came up with the idea after mistaking Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil for a woman with long blonde hair. Tyler's bandmates made fun of him, joking about how the "dude looked like a lady". In his book The Heroin Diaries, Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx concurs that the song was inspired by Neil.
WHAT??? He's not singing about trans people! He wrote the song about glam hair bands back in the 80's! And tbh, even if this song is mistaken for being about a trans woman, I don't see why that's a big damn deal in 2024. Go listen to Lola by The Kinks, released in 1970, back when people just enjoyed the music and didn't get so hung up on the lyrics.
Your reaction to this song made me laugh! Can't wait to see your reaction to "Ragdoll" and "Love in an Elevator". 😂 Just remember in the 80's we did not take things so seriously and not everything was a completely true story. As others have said they wrote this song to poke a little fun at 80's hair bands and Motley Crue in particular. If you want a song with deeper and darker meaning try "Janie's Got a Gun".
Just makes me want to dance like crazy! No, Steve's not a cross dresser. According to a student from my teaching days, he was a great tipper and very polite when she worked a summer job as a waitress. Also known for generous charitable donations. I also love that he helped one of my favorite singers, Haley Reinhart, by hiring her as an opening act when she was starting out. Older songs on the theme: Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl (because guys started wearing long hair) and A Boy Named Sue. Yes, I am that old.
OMFG! Look up Glam Rock. The whole genre is rockers with big hair and makeup, most of whom were notorious "ladies' men", all while looking "like a lady". And much of Glam Rock was very "tongue in cheek", all in fun. This song was a joke about how gender lines were being blurred as far as fashion and style went. You aren't old enough to remember when girls going to school in pants was shocking and revolutionary.
To clarify. It was Vince Neil that Tyler saw from behind. The original title of this song was Cruisin’ for the Ladies. Desmond Child helped them shape the song into what you hear.
Mr BP, please realize this video was made 30 or so odd years ago and was NOT making a political statement in any way. It was, is and forever will be a fun song to listen and dance too that was, at the time, an inclusive song and video. He wasn't yelling, screaming his love for transsexuals, ladybugs, transvestite, etc...! He was actually taking a stab at the human condition, trying to tell people to be more inclusive. NOT A WOKE AGENDA ANTHEM FOR TODAYS, blindly super liberal youth. Just a catchy song. Listen, like, dislike,..?? Then move on. Love your honesty and realism that you do not see enough of in todays' world!! Thanks, NT

Your reaction is priceless. Aerosmith, my favorite band. Check out " Big ten inch"
You crack me up! Been watching your reactions for awhile now but had to comment now. Thanks for the laughs today! Don’t try to understand Aerosmith- just rock with it! Lol. I always picture Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfure when I hear this now.
He’s DEFINITELY a ladies man. Bands have been playing songs like this waaay before Aerosmith. Drag stood for

because back in the day there weren’t many women actresses. Enjoy! 🤘🏻🇨🇦🤘🏻
Back in the day, being Shakespeare's plays on stage because they didn't allow women to act in the first place.
@@sidrat2009…you are correct! My bad! Oops, I mean “sorry eh!”😂Cheers! ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
He's done Lola, Lou Reeds Walk On The Wild Side and had a hard time with them but the best was when he did Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
Hey darlin' - Please don't get your feathers ruffled, panties in a knot, blah, blah, blah. Lighten up!!! It's all fun!
Bless your heart 😢😢😅
😆 looking at the 80’s with 2024 eyes
Jaded by Aerosmith is wicked. Give it a listen ❤
To clarify. It was Vince Neil that Tyler saw from behind. The original title of this song was Cruisin’ for the Ladies. Desmond Child helped them shape the song into what you hear.
He thought Vince Neil from motley Crue was a woman when he first saw him 😂. Told someone that the dude looked like a lady.
Thanks, NT
It’s not even that😂it’s a joke about Motley Crue looking like girls. You doing what you saying he did
notice that the ones w the undies in a twist wear red hats.
