That, my friend, was a 1970’s Public Service Announcement!
See what Bucket Seats have wrought?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
1977's finest... I didn't hear this album until the late 1980s when my older sister played it all the time.
😂
😂😂😂
My face hurts from smiling so much watching your reaction to this! This is not a "song", it a whole opera in 8 minutes.
Same here!
"Bat Out Of Hell" is one of the best albums in music history. Meat Loaf was a great singer, performer and actor. And a really nice guy. RIP Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman.
Bwhahaha 😂
Watching this reaction...
All I can think is, back in the day, I had her outfit 😂 only my Danskin top was flesh colored, and my pants were peach, with a gold belt. This song came out in 1977. Two years later is when I had my outfit, and I was 17 😅
1977, I was 15, and I remember me and my friends knew every song by heart on the Album ❤ Bat Out Of Hell
@@Ydnic7481I can still sing every word. Sooo goood
Totally agree
Absolutely
Omg, every person 55 years plus sang every word to this.
It was one of a kind, that’s for sure.
Yes!
I did!😊
45 here. I use to full on do a whole performance to this with my DJ boyfriend in my 20s after a few drinks. Knew every word. Awesome times.
I was one of a kid.
Every Single word of it!
Fun fact. Meatloaf was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
BP should react to some Rocky Horror Picture Show songs,
I think that would be a good time. 😏🕺🕺
@@Red420ish
That would be awesome 😂
"Hey Frank, what's for dinner tonight?"
"Meatloaf!!!!"
😁😂

I have a meme of Betty white & Bob Saget sitting at a table with those words...Betty asked and Bob answered 🤣
Okay, if you listen closely, the whole song is actually a flashback. The first line "It was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today". Basically, it's an old, married couple, flashing back to their first time, after the high school dance, parked by the lake, and not another car in sight. And he can see "Paradise" by the dashboard lights, but just as he is about to slide into home, she pulls the emergency brake. No ding-ding without a wedding ring. Finally, he caves in and swears his undying love. Flash forward, back to the present, and here's that same couple after who knows how many years of marriage, suffering "buyers remorse", but neither one willing to break the vows they made that night. And, yes, if you watch, she wants out as bad as he does. Watch it again and pay close attention to the words. FYI The whole baseball game in the background, in the 50s, 60, 70s (maybe 80s too) guy code for how your date went was baseball - 1st base, kissing, maybe some outside the clothes groping, 2nd base everything above the waist, 3rd base everything except . . ., Home Run rather self-explanatory. Most people under 40 don't get that reference.
Baseball terms were used in the same way in the UK too, in the 80's - I'm assuming you're referencing the US, so I apologise if you're not.
I was born in '74 and Meatloaf was one of my fave singers during my teen years, along with Queen, Guns 'n Roses, Cher, and Aerosmith.
I used to dress up to look older so I could attend a local pub's weekly heavy metal nights to "head bang" to rock music.
I usually left with a headache and a mess of tangled hair, but it was so much fun! ❤
never heard a Baseball term used here mate lol......in seemingly every film/TV show imported from the U.S yes. hence we're all familiar with them but i've NEVER heard anyone use them. B 1970 @@PoppyFlux
I glad you noticed that. A lot of times, in these reactions, most people don't get the "Long ago."
Also interesting is that she's singing his "Long ago and far away" intro lines at the end.
Um Duh.
Meatloaf's performances were like mini rock operas with the 'cast' playing their parts. He wasn't just about ballards.
Saw him in 96 in New Orleans and it's the top 2 of my greatest concert experiences...saw Prince the same year so best ever
"And now i'm praying for the end of time, so hurry up and arrive. Cause if i gotta spend another minute with you i don't think I could really survive." Laughed the first time I played this at the radio station in 1994!
Meat Loaf got his start on Broadway. Thats why he is always very theatrical during his performances. He always gave it all.
Meatloaf was rock music theater personified.
When you said you know what was going on in the back of the car after the first section, I think most of us were going, "No you don't; but wait for what comes next!" Great song, great performance and a great reaction.
His face - lol.
🤣🤣🤣 I was "saying" the same thing to the TV..... I love his banter, "That's why we're here," and this time, I started laughing, I knew what was to cone 🤣🤣🤣
I was saying the exact same thing. I don't think he understood the baseball Analogy. I don't know what it means that Young people nowadays have no idea what paradise by the dashboard light is
I kept saying, just wait.
"I mean, that's HIS plan"
I've had to point out to people that BOTH of them are praying for the end of time. Most people think it's just Meatloaf "saying" that. When you see both of them pointing at each other in concert, it highlights the sad point that both characters feel this way and both regret it.
Yep. Back in the day we knew every word to it. 58 and can still sing it by heart. The baseball announcer was really a famous announcer
The announcer was Phil Rizzuto. "Rizzuto frequently claimed not to have understood the innuendo behind his part in a song about teenage lovers and a parked car." “Phil was no dummy -- he knew exactly what was going on, and he told me such,” Meat Loaf told ESPN in 2007. “He was just getting some heat from a priest and felt like he had to do something. I totally understood. But I believe Phil was proud of that song and his participation.”
Same!
“Back in the day” this song was on every jukebox in every bar in America from when it came out in the 70s until the late 80s. And someone played it every single night.
SAME!!!
Me too! I'm 51 and can sing every word of it!
I've got my 40-year high school reunion this year. I'm totally confident that if this song is played, every one of us will be able to sing it word for word!
I hear that, my 50 year is next July and I know it will be there. And yes we will all remember the words.
Her name is Karla Devito. She is married to Robbie Benson for decades now. This was such a great time to live.
The voice though was Ellen Foley. She was on the album and the music videos, though Karla did sing on tour with him.
@@gregblangero9140 ellen foley was too busy doing the ''night court'' tv show. she played the public defender in season 2. then she was replaced by Markie Post for the rest of the series.
Bat Out of Hell is fire from front to back. Every song is great! There's a reason it's one of the top selling albums of all time and spent over 10 years on the album charts.

Hey Pegasus, fun fact for you, bro:
When Meatloaf was recording this section in the studio, in order to help Phil Risutto in keeping his pace doing the play-by-play, Meatloaf actually ran around the studio like he was running the bases on a baseball diamond
When she comes in screaming "STOP RIGHT THERE".....Best part of the song
Gave me chills 😅
Along with "And now I'm praying for the end of time to hurry up and arrive" That's when you crack up every time.
I lived in this time. I knew ever single word to this song both parts!.
no means No
The baseball play by play was done by the Yankees Hall of Fame shortstop Phil Rizzuto, who just happened to become the best radio play by play broadcaster ever.He told the story ,on air,of recording this for the album and had no clue what the content was.He said he was called out at church by one of the nuns, who explained to him what he had recorded.Priceless!
Loved the Scooter!
@@erickirchberger9195 you huckleberry 🤣🤣
Hot damn!! Learn something new everyday! Thank you for that!
*You took the words right out of my mouth* one of my favourite Meat Loaf songs from Bat Out of Hell.
He attended my college. It was a world class school of music among other things, but he studied dramatic arts.
Meatloaf is one of the best ARTISTS in HISTORY R.I.P.
When his daughter was in high school in Redding, Connecticut, she was a softball player. One year, the JV team couldn’t come up with a coach; he agreed to do the job. His focus was totally on the team and the girls. He would never sign autographs until games were over and was known to extend practices if reporters showed up, just to make them wait.
He only did it one year, but how many other performers would have even thought about doing that.
Karla Devito is the name you're searching for. Meatloaf got his start on Broadway as did Karla. Think of the song as a mini Broadway production. Most of the kissing scenes in his songs over the decades were acting. Jim Steinman wrote this song as well as the entire Bat out of Hell album. He also wrote i would do Anything. Steinman also hot his start on Broadway. When you saw a Meatloaf show you saw about 20 mini Broadway musicals. You really didn't need to see his duets with Patricia Russo.
the voice you are hearing is Ellen Foley, the girl you are looking at is Karla Devito....she toured with him and was in this filming. but the voice you are hearing in this video is from the album
Karla and Ellen are both on Meatloafs last album Braver than we Were. They all sing together on the song Going all the Way. The album is another Steinman masterpiece @@zenchowbuddha
Ellen Foley also played Billie on the original Night Court.
Saw Meatloaf sing this on a pier concert in NYC as the sun went down and bath the city in golden light with the Twin Towers lit up in the distance. It’s an image that stuck with me all these years later. The recording of Phil’s play by play also got huge cheers from the many Yankee fans in the crowd.
One of the BEST SONGS EVER!!!! Meatloaf was an awesome singer and his songs were so original. Just loved him!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This album is sometimes called rock opera because of the epic story telling and music. You should react to Bat out of He'll next. It has a crazy mimic of a motorcycle sound on the guitar.
The entire album from start to finish is a rock opera.
@juliagrant3299 not rock opera but theatre rock , they were all from musical theatre, the neverland express, shorty is karla Devito
I saw this performed live. Changed the way I looked at music. This is Rock Opera at its best. RIP 🪦 Meat Loaf.
Jim Steinman referred to his music as "Wagnerian Rock" because both he and Meat were deeply theatrical and it was very well reflected in the songs that he wrote. Steinman is known mostly for his Meat Loaf songs, but he scored huge hits with Air Supply, Bonnie Tyler, Barry Mannilow, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion as well as one hit as a solo-artist!
This is what got me into metal and good music, love meat loaf from Guatemala!
Jim Steinman wrote all of the songs. The man is one of the best songwriters in rock. His songs are always so theatrical! He is also responsible for songs like Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler. It’s All Coming Back to Me Now by Celine Dion. I Would do Anything for Love by Meatloaf. Making Love Out of Nothing at All by Air Supply and many more.
When I met my wife we were in her car cruising and she had this on cassette, I knew I was supposed to be with her. 2 kids and 4 grandchildren later it’s still like heaven. Had our nephew over one day he cracked up watching us sing this word for word, now he loves Meatloaf. Life’s good….. lol
this was THE teen anthem when it came out... thanks for the trip...
One of the best examples of rock opera you’ll ever hear.
The look on your face is priceless! Would it freak you out more if you knew that my Dad would sing this to my Mom at the dinner table? This song is an anthem in my family...doesn't matter if it's a wedding, graduation, reunion or even a funeral.
Great story 😃 thanks for sharing
Love that!! It’s such a belter when everyone gets into this song - what a great family tradition to have 🥰
I haven't laughed so much in forever! I love your reaction to a song i've heard my entire life. Your reaction is priceless
Bat Out of Hell is the 1977 debut album by American rock singer Meat Loaf and composer Jim Steinman.
THIS is one of those CLASSIC perfomances!. PRICELESS
RIP MEATLOAF....... One of the most dynamic singers of the 70's. Not just a song, it's an anthem. yes, we had to beg.
And we had to resist.
@@cathybuchanan1747 The chase was worth every moment.
This is my all time favorite reaction from anyone to any song ever.
This is concert footage with Karla DeVito. However the sound quality of the recording was bad so they put the album version over the top of it. The lady on the album version of Ellen Foley, an actress who played on Night Court back in the eighties.
While Karla did the tour this isn't concert filmed. This was done on a closed set sound stage (no live audience) just for the video. I call the basic premise of this song Hormonal Blackmail.
Also, it is Ellen's album vocals. Karla is lip-syncing. Ellen said that she didn't want to tour and kiss Meat Loaf every night. LOL
@@mlong1958 Not doubting you, but damn that was the best lip syncing I've ever seen. Where can I find this info? I'm curious now.

@@davidgray843 awesome, Thank you!
Dude your facial expressions through this 🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆I loved it.
You missed the baseball reference in the video. The runner got to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base. He was about to score when she said “stop right there!”
Also "think about baseball" was a popular saying to not get overly pumped up and nut up the pantaloons.
Yeah, LoL. You tried to 'think about baseball' to occupy your mind, so as to make the lovemaking last longer, and not end prematurely.
An unintended double innuendo that is overlooked is the sliding into second base head first. I do not think Phil Rizito expected it to be done in this fashion.
And narrated by the great Phil Rizzuto!
Every reactor I've watched misses it
I love how shocked you are. I grew up on this - Meatloaf and Queen were my two favourite bands as a teenager. We played this song at parties and everywhere, it was incredibly popular. I had a tape deck in my car, and would listen to it when I was driving around all independent as a 17 year old. I went to sleep every night listening to Meatloaf on my walkman.
Meat Loaf's turn of phrase was bar none... "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" is another classic.
Love this song
Jim Steinman was a musical genius. His lyrics are unforgettable and no one could sell them like ML!!!
One of the great theatrical rock dramas. Everything about this, dude. Watch it 10 times in a row and you'll find 10 new things that amaze you.
If you want to perk up a group of GenX play the beginning of this song and watch the magic. If our age had an anthem.. this was it... every school dance, every party, every gathering really, this was on the list.
So true. I was into punk and metal and still knew all the words to this song…found myself singing along even now. So many memories
Of course the song came out when us tail end boomers were in high school
It was our dance song in my sorority. 😂😂😂
So true!! We even sang this at weddings!!!
Everyone in our generation (Gen X) knows this song. Even those who had no idea who Meatloaf even was knew every word of this song.
Cannot stop laughing… just brought back a crazy memory !!!
Dancing on the bar , myself and other bartender, with soda sprayers as mics…
This song right here is my favorite for reactors. It goes straight off the damn rails plus it's a badass song.
"Be careful what you wish for." The entire message of the song. 😁
Ironic-emperor-palpatine.gif
RIP Meatloaf. One hell of a performer and artist but also not a very smart man.
It's always fun to watch someone's first exposure to this song and see how much they get into the story.
I was a 17 year old newlywed when this came out. I remember my next door neighbor playing it, then we had to get the album. We still have it on cd and play it a lot.
I worked backstage in a Philadelphia live venue back then. Meatloaf appeared there every year. Nice guy and a good tipper.
One of the top 5 selling LP's of all time - still
This was released in 1977 on the "Bat out of Hell" album, same as "Two out of Three Ain't Bad", that was about 20yrs before "I Will Do Anything for Love..."...that was on the "Back into Hell" album in the 90s.
You need to check him out singing in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Agreed. Check out the whole film...there is a reason there's a cult following for Rocky Horror
Flashback to 1998. This song came on the radio when I was pulling into our driveway and parking the car. me and my daughter (I was 36 she was 18) had an amazing sing-along to the radio. Great memory We still talk about it
The baseball analogy is there too. The announcer for the Red Sox did the play by play for getting to home plate. He didn't know it was for this until it was recorded and he wasn't happy.
Meatloaf was in Rocky Horro Picture Show too.
Wrong team. Try New York Yankees.
Meatloaf , especially this song was music entertainment at its best. I loved his music back in the seventies.
Meatloaf was the ultimate performer!! Many times he would leave the stage and calapse, often times having to be taken to the hospital!! He gave every ounce every time!💪
Grew up with this song. BP’s face during this whole reaction, he was transfixed. Pure gold! 😂😂😂
Rock opera plays out on stage like a play & music performance
Bloody LOVE this song. So well written.... Time for me to subscribe and join. Been watching your stuff (music and reactions) for ages!! Part if my daily life now... thanks brother!
This is my all time favorite video! I was 16 when this came out in 1977! I could relate to this 100%!
This is an all time classic. It's true for many, especially back then, and so comical. The female is Karla Devito, just a fellow singer. She married 70s and 80s actor Robby Benson, and still married over 40 yrs later. Joe Rogan has said he had a major crush on her when he was younger from this video.
Wow; I haven’t heard of Robbie Benson in so long; what a great fun fact!
And, that's not her voice, he recorded this with Ellen Foley, (she was a singer and also starred for a time on Night Court) he recorded the video with Karla but with Ellen's voice.
@@mdltlI didn’t know that. I wonder why they didn’t use Karla’s voice. I saw her on Broadway in the late 70s or early 80s and she was a powerhouse.
@@whatnext715Well the song was recorded before the video and then Karla did the tour instead of Ellen. Idk if Ellen and Meat were a couple and broke up or if Ellen was just too busy with other projects but Karla did the tour for the album and the video but not the vocal recording on the record.
@@jacqueline4514 He was the voice of The Beast in the Disney cartoon Beauty And The Beast, he was Billy Joe in Ode To Billy Joe, and Richie in The Death Of Richie.
Meat Loaf with that screaming voice and yet you can understand the words. He was a marvel. A fantastic album. A Boy and I lip synced to this at a high school show - to thunderous applause and a discussion with staff afterwards. God I loved the 70s!
You haven’t seen anything like that. No one has. This song is truly unique, a one-of-one.
By the way this is a live show with the album version played over the top of the performance audio. The female vocal on the album is Elen Foley but the stage performer is Carla DeVito who is married to Meatloaf's hairdresser.
That's the fun thing about watching reactions, we know where all the good parts are.
Rock Opera! This is an amazing performance! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember reading a comment regarding this song, which I never realized. Meat Loaf is wearing a shirt that guys wore for prom, so this could of been prom night.
So the start of the song they are young, get married and can’t stand each other at the end. Circle. Funny to me.
This song answered a lot of questions for those of us that wondered why the heck our parents ever got married in the first place. :P
Back in the hold-out-till-marriage era, many teens got married, just to have sex.
@@melissagerber7231 also lots of shotgun weddings!
This was a live video set against the album recording. The lady singing is Karla Devito who toured with Meat Loaf but the voice you hear is that of Ellen Foley who sang on the album with the band
Meatloaf came from musical theater.he was in the original
Rocky horror picture show .his voice was sooo underrated by many ,appreciated by us who know our rock vocalist..
Great artist
For years this song was always used for Karaoke. This album is an all time classic. I’m 42 and I own a copy of this album and it slaps so hard. Bat out of Hell is a great song.
RIP Meatloaf. I was a senior when this came out. It reminds me of my group of friends from yesteryear.
Meatloaf was amazing. My favorite song love singing at karaoke
This is one of your best reactions. The looks on your face are classic. Great song for this.
A mini rock opera for sure, LOL! It's a classic. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Just an amazing talent is Meatloaf. His approach to his unique music operas/songs, , a great blend of the theatrical and music his abilities, plus a great voice, showmanship and energy. Sadly he started out much same as many of us but they shere drive and determination surpassed his upbringing. He Also had strong belief in spirits, cool! Many happy discoveries for ya' left ahead😊
I love watching your reaction. Priceless
Long-time voice of the Yankees Phil Rizzuto does the play-by-play in the middle section.
RIP Meatloaf. I am lucky to have been a teenager during this time. He was the GOD of rock opera. He always tells a story of teenagers in the 70's and 80's. You should watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He was the motorcycle rider...... Patti Russo has an awesome voice and they work so well together, no they were not a couple just very theatric and I love it!!!
Music can make us remember certain memories and bring us right back to that point in time, this one’s part of the soundtrack to my life ♥️
Every meatloaf song is an event. I highly, highly recommend objects in the rear view mirror... Definitely hits you in the feels with the lyrics and the video
His live shows were musical theater. He was good at it. He even had a role in Rocky Horror Picture Show. You should give that a watch sometime.
This is why Meatloaf is a safe word cause " I would do anything for love, but I wont do that!"
You'll also want to watch his productions of this with Patricia Russo. She is considered his best duet partner. You'll definitely want to see Dead Ringer for Love. I'll let you be absolutely shocked by the duet partner. This song is written as a past memory when the couple is older. Notice in the beginning he says "I remember it like it was yesterday" and then the refrain from both of them "it was long ago and far away. They also say they'll never break their vows
"I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday..."
I can't tell you how many needles I had to replace on my record player wearing this album out in Jr. High!!!!! Out of all the albums I've bought over the years, THIS one stands out the most! My first album I got for Christmas! Those were the days!!!!!!!❤❤❤
Ha! If you'd grown up in the 60's in the days of the drive in theater and make-out point, you'd know exactly where paradise was when illuminated by the dash board light.
By far in my top ten favorite songs ever!
We sing this song at family wedding receptions. The guys on one side of the dance floor and the females on the other. lol
The look on your face! I haven't laughed all week until know. Meat in Meat Loaf...LMAO!!!
There is rarely such a magical combination of people that get to work with each other in this world like Jim Steinman and his theatrical music writing and Meatloaf and his theatrical personality and performance. These two were MEANT to find each other and create music together. It's impossible to imagine a world where they didn't.
A hopeful constant across the multiverse for sure! Such a great point.
Jim was one of the best songwriters of all time and is so overlooked.
Produced by Todd Rundgren.

Meat Loaf's songs were more than songs, they were Rock and Roll Operas. He was one of the most insanely talented singers in the Classic Rock Generation
I always found this song absolutely hilarious and really good. I was 17 when it was released.
The video is of a live performance but the audio is from the album version synced to the video. The woman in the video is Karla DeVito who toured with Meatloaf, replacing Ellen Foley who actually sang on the album but didn't want to go on tour.
Your cute, innocent look in your face!! Priceless!!!!!
When I saw you listening to Ren, I knew you would enjoy this. I believe I even commented this once. Meatloaf was a actor musician like Ren. Each song has it's own character and Meatloaf would pace around the stage and create a unique action that would prep him for the song he was about to sing.
Meatloaf has stated that he always considered himself to more of an actor than a singer.
I absolutely love your ren reactions and others but when you notified me you doing paradise by the dashboard light I knew and can verify this is ny absolute favourite reaction video ever knowing your part of the 40yr old fq boys and also growing up with meatloaf knowing how much open innuendo this song brings .
