I really liked the style of this video where you're coaching someone else as you film it. It must be difficult to teach the student and the video watcher, but you seem to balance it perfectly.
I do the shoulder drive, but mostly out of fear. I never really had a backup plan. I would just drive, and struggle until I got out of it. Lol! Thanks for this!
I like the shoulder pressure I must say. Also, I never used that grip break from there. For some reason I just stayed there waiting for him to let go. I like it!
I'm new to all this im just trying to defend my self i love it already can you make a video on how to escape a headlock and another one on reaction time?😊thanks
Great post chewy! I’m a 4 stripe white belt going to do my first competition. How important is your warm up? And do you change your training prior to Competition? Ps love your channel! Please come to Sydney Australia!!!!!
Justin Heaney I don’t do bjj but I’ve wrestled about 40 wrestling matches and before my matches/tournaments I focus on conditioning and live goes with full resistance. It’s also good to change up your partners because it’s easy to get complacent. The day of, if you have to cut weight for ins eat a small meal and drink water and focus on getting into a positive mindset. I stretch and do light warm ups about half an hour before my match and 1 match before or about 2 minutes before I really warm up with sprints
Yes hand or fingers is ok. Peeling a finger away would be small joint manipulation. You can usually hold all fingers or the meat of the palm and be ok.
Hey chewie, can you help me? im named Caue and im a 2 stripe white belt, been training for about 8 months, started early this year and my coach says he will give me my blue belt end of this year, saying that i have already earned it, that i dont miss classes and have good skills.... BUT I DONT FELL I DO. i rarely miss classes but i dont think i have the proper time... thanks love your videos from brazil!!!
It's not your choice. And a lot of times we're too close to ourselves to have an objective view of who we are. It's like standing an inch away from a painting. It will look like a blur of color. The people standing away from it can see how beautiful the image is. Trust their opinion sometimes over your own.
- How does that feel Patrick?
- not great

Thank you for this. Started struggling from kimuras in half guard.
I got caught in this exact position on Tuesday and tapped. Thanks for the video - keep up the good work.

You talked about "peeling" the hand & or fingers away, I thought small digit manipulation wasn't allowed in bjj?
Yes hand or fingers is ok. Peeling a finger away would be small joint manipulation. You can usually hold all fingers or the meat of the palm and be ok.
Finger by finger is illegal. But grabbing the base of the joint is ok. It's not the finger.
Awesomeness.
Got done by a kimura from half guard today for the first time in years, been relying on strength way too much to escape these.
He is crazy flexible

I so jealous of guys like Patrick with all that natural flexibility.
🖒👍👍👌🖒
this is good defense technique, but I wanted to know how to get rid when I'm already in a kimura.
