The I stole the quest reward armour, wore it and got killed by the owner for stupidly wearing/parading stolen armour is what caught my interesting. Not many games do that. Also, this kinda reminded me of Risen.
@@SwitchUpYt "What am I banging on about" made me laugh out loud. You are so damn charming and have the most gorgeous voice too. Keep up the great work!

@@melaniapina6368 then do it :) it’s really old but really worth playing even today. Even the developer of drova keep mentioning it. In 2025 there will be a Gothic Remake.
Played the limited time demo of this on steam and was absolutely sold. Hope it gets a switch physical and some patches to improve performance. Great review.
Wearing stolen goods and getting caught for it is an amazing eye for detail. The game reminds me a little bit of the original Divinity games; Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity. Looks like a great game.
I'm glad you mentioned the combat start clunky and improves, because I have played only about 30 minutes into the game and was concerned how slow and ... clunky ... the combat is. So this makes me feel better!
Some of my favorite games are the gothic, risen, dragons dogma etc etc the list could go on. Fantasy epics you can lose yourself in. A pixel art version of that sounds fantastic if done well, which this seems to be. Sign me up.
my poor aching backlog is hurting too. my backlog is so big, i had to upgrade my SD card to a 1.5 tb. i've been deleting games i've beaten to make room for new games.
Heh heh, I'm deleting games I haven't even started to make room for the latest purchase. Pure madness but it makes me feel happy knowing I have this huge backlog for whenever I can get around to it. Strange I know.
This game is really Gothic in 2d. And very very smart for a 2d environment. Until Gothic Remake comes up, this is a real gem. Edit: even your first weapon is a heavy branch. The monsters don't scale up. So much Gothic feeling in this little game
I just got through watching this game's trailer and thought, "Man, I wish more trailers were like this." And here we have a SwitchUp review. Glorious day! RIP in rip to the backlog.
Phew, my backlog remains as is so far and without the feeling of missing out that usually comes with a banging month of games. Cheers SwitchUp! Catch you in the next one.
Good review, can’t get over that name tho. Drova means wood in ruissian so each time i see this name i imagine a trip to collect wood interrupted by monster invasion 😂
Just got after watching this brilliant review! You mentioned rebinding the controls. Any chance you could share your scheme? I'm finding some of the bindings a bit awkward...
I accidentally skipped forward and the first thing I heard was "It's like a mashup between Morrowind, Baldur's Gate 2, Gothic, but in 2D." That's all I need to know and now it's a must play!
Glad to hear it appears to deliver. It sure seems ambitious, like a classic crpg from the golden era. But the contemporary pixel visuals had me a bit worried it wouldn't be able to deliver on the intricacies of such an old school standard. I especially like that NPCs can react with the environment and with each other. Reminds me of Skyrim and the unscripted chaos that could unfold there. I also like the fully integrated day & night cycle - not even BG3 had that; thats BG1 & BG2 level quality. I also appreciate the fact that they use a beautiful high res font (with a size option), rather than that unpleasant pixel text so common with indie games. I think I will be getting this.
So you say the game only has performance issues when loading in new areas? If that's the case I can deal with that. What I can't deal with however are frame rate drops during big, complex fights/battles with enemies where quick reactions are necessary for success.
Okay okay drova is on the list. The angle of the game might not fair well with me but im down for a go thanks again for the review was also waiting for this one
Definitely grabbing this. Convinced my buddy to pick up a switch again since he’s always out of town and we love games like this. Give me the no hand holding rpg every day of the week over high budget “follow the marker on your map” games. Just really hope it has solid performance on switch and they support patches to fix what’s needed.
I was hoping you’d do a review of it 😍 detailed and honest views, as always, much appreciated, mate. The role playing aspects sound spot on! I’m wondering if the performance issues are not there in other platforms 🤔
One of the best things about the original Gothic had to do with the fact that there was no level scaling and so in the beginning of the game if you just wandered off with the path you could get absolutely bodied by a set of monsters that were level 40 or 50.
Im so intrigued by this intro. Let’s find out Edit: I purchased the game even before this video ended. I can immediately tell this will be 20/20 Value score for me. Bravo for the team who made this game, it looks amazing. Judging by the aesthetic of the game and Mark’s review, I’ll likely sink hundreds of hours into this one. Great review, thx SwitchUp
First Crow country and now Drova, I bought a 1tb SD card after I saw the Crow country video because I knew it would be going on my back log. I have another to add to the list, now if I can only tear myself away from Skyrim lol.
Initially reminded me of a mix between 9th Dawn III and Children of Morta in an open world. This looks great and is 100% my cup of tea however there are so many long RPGs (I tend to take my time with them so a 40hr game could easily take me 60+) that I just don't have the time to invest in them which is a real shame. Why did we have to grow up, eh?
So is the game difficult? I know this is subjective but is it frustratingly difficult or can you genuinely have fun and see progress each play session?
Sounds really good. On my lost of things to get eventually......... Still hoping that maneater gets more patches, it's still fun to play on the switch, however the screen tears are annoying and they only happen when you're close to the home caves in the areas. Yes the issues still existed in the PS4/PS5 ports as well. They were still annoying, and the game is still fun despite that.
DROVA oh Drova, do you not understand we have backlogs....sigh...here we go again...! Mark
Is there an option to enlarge the text size? The dialogue looks really small for handheld users.
@@videogamechangers605 there are 4 text size options from medium to very large
I know right and with new world release it's hard to fit everything in!
@@SwitchUpYt Right on, thanks. The game is looking like a buy.

The look of the game gives me Children of Morta vibes. Thanks Mark.
