Katie: There’s gotta be a better way!! I think you could do a presentation like “shark tank” to a group of Texas A&M mechanical engineers. They could compete to design a more powerful and efficient shearing system for really matted and messed up sheep, llamas, and goats. Patent the one that works best.
“Not leaving with my sanity.” You certainly left a bunch of your compassion with this crew. You are so patient and loving here. Grateful for pros with a real eye for animal welfare.
It’s interesting watching your trial and error process with this group. First one/two: damn, she’s sat on a massive chunk that’s now in the way. Next three: if we make that a separate flap instead of part of half the blanket, then we can pull it out more easily. This sheep: sod this, I’m just taking that first hip chunk off so it’s out of my way and not pulling on the sheep. It may not be pretty, but it is functional, and you can do pretty next time now they are on a maintenance schedule rather than an emergency to deal with a mess. I am in awe of your ability to keep going when you are clearly knackered both mentally and physically. That’s will power and love of these animals. Especially when you are long since past the point of “ow this hurts”
My heart breaks for these poor sheep! I’m in awe of the way you are able to shear them! It’s clear how much you and your wife care for these animals! I’m grateful you are out there helping these guys year after year! Thank you for bringing us along for the ride - even when it isn’t as “beautiful” as usual!
The side by side really have a clear emphasis on just how much longer this took you. What a struggle. I'm glad the owners sought you out to take care of these lovies.
6 of 8. Almost done 👍. It's coming close to me having my 5 rescues shorn - just have to wait for the Tasmanian winter to end. The 2 big wethers have wool about 6-8" long 😯. My fingers disappear in it. And that's only 12 months of growth.
Overall, this poor sheep was calm. I think she felt relief that she was being released from her overgrowth prison. I love your empathy for your charges, Katie! Your clients and the animals you shear are lucky! 👏👏💕
The side-by-side comparison was invaluable in showing the drastic difference between the matted sheep and the unmatted one. That poor thing on the left, I almost started crying, especially when you got to the hind end. Who in world wants to have to pee on themselves constantly? I understand this was a sad, untenable situation for everybody. I’m just glad you and your wonderful wife could help these poor creatures escape their prisons. I’m a Texas gal myself, so I know the conditions you were working in. Hot 🥵 and humid 💦, that’s our lot for 6 months out of the year. ❤
Not to minimize what you & that poor sheep went through, If they could thank you I feel pretty sure the matted sheep would have a far great appreciation for what you've done. Such great work!
What an amazing job you have done on all of them! Your back and arms must be in agony, though. I saw shearers in Canada had a chest harness that seemed to be on a spring when they shear.Would that help you? I loved the sheep's face as you sheared her. I am sure you could see the relief in her face as it must have been painful. Thanks again for another great video x
I'm really enjoying your channel. Thanks for your knowledge and genuine concern for these animals, I'm a city girl and don't have a clue. You provide the info one needs in order to understand exactly what you are doing. Wonderful channel!🥰
U R a MIRACLE PERSON to do the work you do!!! Cleaning out urine & poo soaked mattning, bare handed, shows your dedication to helping these animals who are suffering so horribly! ❤❤❤❤❤ Congratulations to the best shearing person ever!!!! 😁😁😁😁
Thank you for doing what you do. You and your wife do amazing work and bring so much relief, especially with cases like this. These babies are even more beautiful and have to feel so much better Also, regarding your sanity... normal is an illusion, sanity is a social construct both are overrated lol My "sanity" set sail a while back, Titanic style
GOD BLESS YOU FOR DOING THE TAXING WORK OTHERS WOULD NOT! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO IMAGINE THE SUFFERING THESE PRECIOUS ANIMALS GO THROUGH BECAUSE OF OUR NEGLECT! ❤️🇨🇦❤️
excellent comparison! and educating the owners how to better care for their animals is your gift to them (and us) - keep up your awesome work! stay blessed and safe
What a blessing you guys are for these sheep and family. Hope you guys went for a massage the next day❤. I hope they call you back for the next shearing would love to see how these woolies loke
I'm sure it was frustrating for the owners to see their animals fall into this condition & they must be grateful that you were willing to take it on. 🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑
@@conniewolf7300 There could be any number of reasons why the flock fell into this condition: illness or death of the owner. No one looked in on the welfare of the owner or animals. Not every shearer would agree to take on this project? The point is, the present owners are doing right by these animals. Don't judge.
God bless you for doing this work for those poor sheep! It's horrible the condition they are in! I pray the owners can do better going forward and take proper care of these sweet animals. It makes me sad to see them in this condition.
She explained in prior videos that the owners have been devastated by multiple really bad stuff happening to them and their house, plus their regular shearer retired and they couldn't find a new one. It took a while to get them on the Right Choice rotation. But in the meanwhile they hadn't been sheared for at least a year - and I think this is a breed that needs to be shorn twice a year.
@larkreid7960 it is not your call to give them or not give the a pass. I gave you the most minimal information - which is all you know - yet you're judging as if it is your place to judge. Until you walk in the shoes of another, or you are a courthouse judge with full case evidence before you, it is not for you to judge, period.
Wow! I bet you are almost worn out by now!! Y’all are such a great team, no wonder you are married!!! ❤😊. Thank you for sharing and caring about these sheep!! ❤😊❤
I've never seen Katie look quite that distressed before! 🤣 The look on her face when she finished the sheep and stood up was one of frustration, exhaustion, bewilderment and disbelief all at once LOL
Wow!!! I do think that this took a real toll on my girls arm after sheering that sheep I know that she has to be very tired of yeah. But you got it done that God for you girls great job 👍

To think that some animals in this position die from the heat and smothered by the weight because they never got help. That makes me sad. Bless you for what you do!
This women is amazing she really knows how to do a Great job ❤ where would these poor sheep be if it were not for this lady caring enough to sort them out.❤❤❤
I'm still speechless about this series, but on the technical side, I think that less slowing of the vocal track and more pauses with no VO was definitely the right decision. It's truly amazing that the amount of time it took to shear these sheep has forced you to get creative about making the videos!
I love learning from you and ur wife I have seen most of the 8 that needed your help. Watching the men do this job is interesting, as I see men are way more aggressive. You're more understanding of shearing the sheep. Not stressing the sheep is the main concern.👍👍👍👍
What gift! It’s amazing to watch. I can’t help be twist and turn with you as you find your way through matted wool fiber and this is a dance all it’s own beautiful!
How fascinating to watch how matting makes suck a difference in the sheer. Your job never ever looked easy but with these two side by side the matted job makes the non-matted job look like a breeze.
Thank you so much for being so kind to these animals. And you’re so professional and knowledgeable that hearing how and why you shear as you do makes these videos so important to those of us watching. Always take care and y’all be safe.

Katie you are blessing! Thanks for fixing these poor sheep Yes the nonmatted girls are easier and useful but you are teaching us what not to do Matted fleece would be good for future garden put it so it kills weeds and composting

Thank you for documenting and posting the Herculean task of sheering these sheep. The side-by-side was a great demonstration!
"Herculean" is an apt description! 👏👏
I was just thinking "dang, Hercules didn't know how easy he had it"
Your voice and narration are what make these videos top notch. 😊
I am sure that the owners are so grateful to you and your partner. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Poor babies. They are so fortunate that you came to their rescue ❤🥰😍

Well stated! 👏👏
Beautifully said!
A great sentiment! 🙌
I don’t think the owners deserve any kudos, they allowed and facilitated this matting.
Exactly! I was coming here to say the same thing - Katie produced something much more beautiful than a coat of wool! ❤
She was a good girl during that, like she knew she was going to feel so much better getting those matts off!!😊❤
Such a pretty sheep. She did well under the circumstances. And you, Katy, did well too😂😂😉😉
