I think what you are installing is called a "silcock". I had never heard of a "hose bib", but the internets is telling me they are both outside faucets, but the silcock has the rod that runs deep back into the house.

While I hate the plastic pex connectors I like the more expensive metal ones. Never had one to leak. Had a few freeze and bust but no leaks.

I think it is regional the name. This is actually called a frost free faucet on the literature that comes with it.

Yes, mom and dad both got cancer and I did that for them too.
Just speaking from experience, they will freeze and bust if you leave a hose hooked up in cold weather.
