You have my sympathy Adrian, the government departments don’t care about the stress they can cause. Here in Wales a farmer friend was told to have a word with the Samaritans. I think your reasoning is perfectly sound.
Adrian, in farming the job is the easy but it’s the red tape and pen pushers that make it awkward and difficult. The gov are the ones that cause the problems and that’s why we end up sitting at night filling in endless stupid forms. Be safe and keep doing the job to your usual high standard Adrian 👍

Vets are supposed to coduct what's called surveillance which should mean every herd gets same inspection within a certain area. They decide number of visits and size of area . You have to ask what is the point of a test when all animals pass what is not a contagion disease.
Well I’m not a farmer but I’m going to say it “That’s Bloody Ridiculous !” Even I can see why you’re angry . Once the decision was made without consulting the farmers it’s going to effect it sounds like it’s set in stone . Bloody bureaucracy in farming. To many people up high with no idea and too much time on their hands. On another note, you've still fair grass there Adrian, do you have any sheep on your ground over the winter?
Great content as always. Bit late to this video, but anyways. I understand your frustration at the timing of the tests and them having to be done again, but from a neutral perspective from a non-farmer, I still remember the foot and mouth outbreaks. I'll never forget seeing full pens of livestock in flames. Some of these regulations and practices are for the betterment of the whole farming community. I'm not laying blame on anyone, but I think there needs to be give and take on both sides to achieve a safe herd and environment. You demonstrate well what its like for a small independent farm, you keep your practices clean etc, and your herd looks immaculate. I think again the unfortunate side to farming is its not a 1 man job, and all of the regulations and safety protocols make your job harder and may take twice as long. But thats the nature of the beast, rules are written in blood. anyways just my two cents. Wish you the best in future!
I want to invest in a hydraulic toplink as I am on hilly ground, what brands would be the best, I have been told a 24 (unsure of measurement) would be best, what brand should I get, I’m willing to pay for quality to avoid frustration
Every tractor is different Paddy, best thing to do is measure the hole distance when the machine or implement is on and order the closest to that. All our tractors past and present have needed different lengths
I think that top link is fixed and you will probably still be using it when you retire. I agree with you about the forced tests, some years back the Department forced a TB test on my little herd of 18 suckler cows a month before calving when they had been clear tested a few months before. Two late calving heifers aborted and in 30 years I have never had a cow abort. Cattle react bad to stress and just want to be left alone, just like the owner. It's very annoying and like dealing with Hitler's Nazis and adds stress and uncertainty we could well do without. Different if it was justified.
Adrian I said something about how ridiculous some of the rules and regulations are in your country and man did it pi$$ a few people off instantly. I believe in herd health and all of that but it doesn't need constant stress and testing to the animals when there is no need for it.
Never heard of it paddy, I’ll put it this way, I’ve been welding since I was 12 years old , welded stuff in all types of conditions, never had a weld break yet or corrode. A bit of ordinary primer and paint helps for sure but most of the time it gets neither
@@IFarmWeFarm the stuff I use is zig-90, I have went back to welds cuts and holes I have made and they are still silver after 6 years, for the price of it it’s not bad, but as you say it’s probably not necessary unless it’s near corrosive substances eg silage, slurry,
There’s 2 farms that buy most of my stock, I keep my herd fairly young so they go on to milk on them farms for years to come. Them 2 heifers with hopefully do the same.
Here’s a man who shows great welfare and care to his animals, just the little thing like closing the pet dog out of the shed while welding. But she loves the airline. LOL. Keep up the good word Adrian. 👍👍
Really 😡😡😡 annoying Adrian you have the best interest of the animals at heart no farmers want to put animals in the crush more times than they have to especially when there heavily in calf the department a law to themselves
It’s no fully the departments fault, I found out a lot since and so of the blame actually rests with the IFA not imposing a chance in how imports are tested
Dealing with the government bureaucracy is like banging your head against the wall. It feels so good when you stop. Hope you find out what has been causing problems with fertility in your heifers.
i used to look after the young dairy stock at home and i noticed a correlation of ones that i had injected with anti inflammation meds wouldn't get in calf and had to be sold. anyone else had this experience?

But thats the nature of the beast, rules are written in blood.
anyways just my two cents. Wish you the best in future!
I want to invest in a hydraulic toplink as I am on hilly ground, what brands would be the best, I have been told a 24 (unsure of measurement) would be best, what brand should I get, I’m willing to pay for quality to avoid frustration
Every tractor is different Paddy, best thing to do is measure the hole distance when the machine or implement is on and order the closest to that. All our tractors past and present have needed different lengths
Floor creeper on the wall, I've never seen the like of it.
What will Adrian do next?
Adrian what’s your opinion on galvanise primer, I always use it post weld to prevent corrosion, is there a reason you don’t use it or is it necessary
Never heard of it paddy, I’ll put it this way, I’ve been welding since I was 12 years old , welded stuff in all types of conditions, never had a weld break yet or corrode. A bit of ordinary primer and paint helps for sure but most of the time it gets neither
@@IFarmWeFarm the stuff I use is zig-90, I have went back to welds cuts and holes I have made and they are still silver after 6 years, for the price of it it’s not bad, but as you say it’s probably not necessary unless it’s near corrosive substances eg silage, slurry,
Hi what will happen to them when you sell them.
If a cow throws a calf send the bill to the department. And continue to follow it all the way through the courts
Do you get compensated for the tests because they have been instructed by a government vet?
Really 😡😡😡 annoying Adrian you have the best interest of the animals at heart no farmers want to put animals in the crush more times than they have to especially when there heavily in calf the department a law to themselves
It’s no fully the departments fault, I found out a lot since and so of the blame actually rests with the IFA not imposing a chance in how imports are tested
No check valve on the toplink is very dangerous
Dealing with the government bureaucracy is like banging your head against the wall. It feels so good when you stop. Hope you find out what has been causing problems with fertility in your heifers.
It's Crocodile Cavan
i used to look after the young dairy stock at home and i noticed a correlation of ones that i had injected with anti inflammation meds wouldn't get in calf and had to be sold. anyone else had this experience?
Paint that ram john deere green.🤣🐄🍺🇮🇪
Hi Adrian probably a silly question but do you vaccinate for BVD?
No, we have to test every calf that born for it. As long as there’s no positive results then there’s no need
Adrian that cow farting did enormous damage to the
Methane methane....climate change.....LOL
