Loved Merlin. We had the best toys in the 70's. I watch all my family home movies & all the CHRISTmas toys I had. I sooo miss those days. The best yrs of my life.
I remember getting this as a Christmas gift when I was a child, and my sister got Simon. I was so happy that I got Merlin because it was so much fun! As soon as I heard you pressing the buttons, I smiled and said yes, that's what I remembered! So much nostalgia.
I got this one for Christmas too. Very nostalgic! I found a Simon game still in the box last year at an estate sale. It goes well with Merlin. Thanks for watching!
I loved mine when I was a kid. I think of it often. The fact that yours still works speaks to the quality of things made back then. Thank you for making this video! Such great memories.
Does this ever bring back memories! I got one of these for my birthday in 1981. I think the you've-won-tic-tac-toe sound is forever imprinted on my memory.
Loved this game as a kid and would play for hours with it. I was going to buy it for my great nieces and nephews, but after watching this video, I think I'll leave it locked in my memories lol
I played this when I was 5 years old. I am 50. Jingle Bells was my favorite song to play. I watched your video with tears in my eyes and memories in my heart. Thank you for sharing this. ❤
I love these old simple electronic games. I still have many of the originals and have purchased broken ones from ebay and fixed them. So simple a pleasure
My older brother brought 2 of these home to the UK from Germany in the early 80's I was totally absorbed by it. This video brought memories flooding back 👍
I bought a Merlin game back around the same time (78 or 79) and I loved playing with that thing. I enjoyed mine for years but don't know what happened to it, as I tended to move around a lot back then. I remember I bought it at a grocery store of all places, called Albertsons. They were open 24 hours and I remember paying around $40 for it, which was a rather tidy sum to spend on something like this - for me anyway. Yours still looks brand new. Great memories from back then!
Thanks for watching and for your comment Mike! I think every store had them at one time. I remember seeing them everywhere. You are right, $40 was a lot of money back in those days. It was one of the Christmas gifts from my parents that year.
Amazing. My sister got for xmas and remember playing together for hours. The bleeps are iconic. Think my favourite game was blackjack. Thanks for sharing.
I totally forgot about this game, as many of my toys were lost due to unfortunate circumstances when I was young. There was no way I would have been able to conjure up these sounds alone. But there they are, I totally recall it now. It has been 45+ years since I had heard these sounds. Memory is quite fascinating. I would have pressed these buttons hundreds of times, which put it into a permanent memory bank, even though I have had no reason to access it for decades. Memory was never overwritten. But then what I had for lunch 2 months ago is forgotten unless it was something very special or different. Btw I found it's even more powerful running across a toy in real life I hadnt seen in decades.. Last year i found a Big Trak in a classic game shop and the guy got it out if the display cabinet and ran it for me. It was literally like being transported back in time to childhood. Thanks for posting this!
I know exactly what you're talking about. Memories we made in childhood are forever there. Especially sounds or music. Amazing. Seeing a Big Trak running again must have been really cool! I think I totally destroyed mine playing with it back in those days.
I loved playing this when I was a kid. My best friend had it. I always wanted one but we were really poor and couldn’t afford it. It’s nice to see one again. Brings back memories.
I got this one for Christmas 1979. I seem to remember doing the same thing with mine. It is very similar to a telephone from those days. No problem, thanks for watching Steve!
I clearly remember these days having that cool artefact! It was a feeling of true magic in my hands. I played together with my mates in the elementary school... everybody wanted it!
I loved it so much as a kid in the 70-80s that I had to get the newer version. Even as an adult I love the 10th quest version. Great for engaging the brain and helping with hand/eye coordination.
I just found mine last wknd at my mother’s basement! Took it home but haven’t tested it out as of yet. Also picked up Simon, Blip, Connect Four, Sorry and Jack Straws. The seventies were a fun time to be a kid.
I was born in 71! I was too young when I had it, but I do remember looking at it, trying to figure out what the heck it was. It just looked like a phone. Believe it or not, this is the first time I ever knew what it did! If I had known, I probably would've liked it! I think that it was a gift, It was nothing I had asked for.
Very nice dtmf-phone 80s design; the interface is great, working only with red leds, blinking and solid, along with basic sound waves gives the toy a unique characteristic look and feel, nice demo 👍
My favourite game ever, this brought back a ton of memories, the music one was one of the best, although I enjoyed them all, especially as you didn't have to stick to what was in the manual, although good, you could just make up an old stuff, very envious that you still have yours...
I agree, Music Machine was the best! I don't know how I managed to hang onto Merlin but I'm glad I did! Thanks for watching my video Sara, and for your great comment!
I am sure some young people might think this game looks too simple/silly. But this was first generation pocket video games, something you could hide in your book bag and take to school to play when bored (on the bus, on break, etc.) I had the basketball game (I think it was Nintendo pocket video game). Since it made noise and I wanted to play in class, I attempted to see if I could open it up and rig it so I could plug in an ear piece. But I distinctly remember it had a proprietary fastener screw on the housing (it was triangle shaped head), so I was foiled (not like they had an internet you could order specialiity items/tools). . I mastered the pattern of the video game, within a short time period though, so that was the only negativce aspect of it.
WOW I forgot all about this game. Cool to see old stuff from when I was a kid. You see "Simon" games all over in different form factors all the time to this day.
Even before seeing it powered up, built in the 70's ment it would still work, things built back then have a tendency to work even after decades, unlike alot of today's stuff!~
I had this and every night I slept with it and when the adults thought I was asleep, I was playing my Merlin by covering the speaker so they wouldn't hear it.
Still have mine and works great. I am missing the battery cover, but otherwise still awesome retro game with great sound effects for the time it came out. (still kinda catchy)
I still own mine. Those were the days. You could play a game without being interrupted by notifications. You were completely alone with your entertainment.
I agree. Those were the days. I know what you are talking about. It seems I can't even enjoy a short tv show or movie without several interruptions. I miss the old days. Thanks for watching Del.
Loved Merlin. We had the best toys in the 70's. I watch all my family home movies & all the CHRISTmas toys I had. I sooo miss those days. The best yrs of my life.
We sure did. It was an amazing time.
Took me right back. Anything electronic was magic.
Loved this game, missing being a kid. Life was so simple then.
I totally agree! The 80's were awesome.
had we known...
Yes it was! 😃😆
I played this so much as a kid. My favourite toy. I would still be able to complete the Magic Square even now.
I remember getting this as a Christmas gift when I was a child, and my sister got Simon. I was so happy that I got Merlin because it was so much fun! As soon as I heard you pressing the buttons, I smiled and said yes, that's what I remembered! So much nostalgia.

I loved mine when I was a kid. I think of it often. The fact that yours still works speaks to the quality of things made back then. Thank you for making this video! Such great memories.
I agree! It's amazing to me that it is still fully functional 40 plus years later. No problem, thank you for watching!
Sorry I don't know where mine went but it appears that we appreciated things back then more than kids now
I got the Merlin for christmas, nice to see this video. Memories
Got mine for Christmas too. It was a big deal back then!
Does this ever bring back memories! I got one of these for my birthday in 1981. I think the you've-won-tic-tac-toe sound is forever imprinted on my memory.
Thanks for watching resurrectedwreck! I think it is imprinted on mine too!
I had this game...I loved it sooo much 😁 those beeps bring back memories
Awesome! Thanks for watching my video😁
Yup! Me too. Hearing those sounds again for the first time in 40 years was pretty wild
I used to play this at night in bed as a kid. I covered the sound so my parents couldn’t hear me playing at night.
It sure did.
I still have one of these! 🙂
Loved this game as a kid and would play for hours with it.
I was going to buy it for my great nieces and nephews, but after watching this video, I think I'll leave it locked in my memories lol
"Time MACHINE!" I'm 11 years old again! I sooo had one of these & enjoyed for a long time.
Absolutely! Really takes you back to that time doesn't it. Thank you for watching!
Never had one but a friend did and I remember messing with it. Without the instructions, it was hard to navigate.
You are right. Without the instruction book, there's not much you can do.
God I killed HOURS with this guy. Magic Square (game 5) was my favorite. Between this & Mattel Electronic Football, I was happy kid,!
I loved Mattel Electronic Football
Thank you for sharing, this post brought back happy memories from my childhood.
Merlin was my BFF for awhile lol
I played this when I was 5 years old. I am 50. Jingle Bells was my favorite song to play. I watched your video with tears in my eyes and memories in my heart. Thank you for sharing this. ❤
Man, hearing these sounds really take me back. Fun toy.
I love these old simple electronic games. I still have many of the originals and have purchased broken ones from ebay and fixed them. So simple a pleasure

This made me smile!!! Now I gotta go look on eBay!
Awesome! I'm glad. Good luck on your search!
Those sounds are burned deep into my subconscious... Wow. I knew exactly what each button was going to do
I know, right! Same here.
Oh my gosh, what a throwback. That was one of my Christmas gifts! I loved it.
Me too. Got it for Christmas in 79 if I remember right.
I bought a Merlin game back around the same time (78 or 79) and I loved playing with that thing. Thanks for watching!
Oh My Goodness!!!! This was one of my favorite!!!! I was 12 at the time ahahaha! Thanks so much for sharing!!!!
Those were the days. Thanks for your comment. I need to make another Merlin video!
I got this for Christmas and loved it. I used to think it looked like a phone and sometimes played with it as such. Thanks for your video
I got this one for Christmas 1979. I seem to remember doing the same thing with mine. It is very similar to a telephone from those days. No problem, thanks for watching Steve!
Awesome toy...
My older sister had one and I loved when she would let me play with it...
Loved my Merlin
Thanks for watching!
I clearly remember these days having that cool artefact! It was a feeling of true magic in my hands. I played together with my mates in the elementary school... everybody wanted it!
Thanks for reminding. It is funny seeing it again.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
I'm going to buy one for my sister....she had one back in 78. I used to play it all the time lol.
I got one in the 1970s, I loved this toy!
Just seeing the words parker brothers got me hyped!
Nice!
I just saw this game on "Let's make a deal". I can't believe I haven't thought about it in over 30 years. The memories come flooding back.
I know what you mean. It's very nostalgic. Thanks for watching!
I loved it so much as a kid in the 70-80s that I had to get the newer version. Even as an adult I love the 10th quest version. Great for engaging the brain and helping with hand/eye coordination.
That's interesting. I didn't realize there were newer versions.
I loved playing blackjack 13😂
Me too!
I just found mine last wknd at my mother’s basement! Took it home but haven’t tested it out as of yet. Also picked up Simon, Blip, Connect Four, Sorry and Jack Straws. The seventies were a fun time to be a kid.
Indeed they were! I recently found a Simon, still in the original box!
Loved this game! ❤
I was born in 71! I was too young when I had it, but I do remember looking at it, trying to figure out what the heck it was. It just looked like a phone. Found one of these in brand new condition on the curb yesterday! The stuff people throw away!!
Good find! I'm glad you rescued it before it went in the trash.
That is so cool! I would love to see more games for sure.
Thanks for watching Madison! I hope to get some more videos made soon.
I had this thing? I played it for hours! I had a little professor calculator as well. The beginning of my electronics addiction. Wheeee!
I remember the little professor calculators but I never owned one myself. Thanks for watching my video!
Thank you!! I had forgotten what it sounded like.
You're welcome! Merlin is awesome
I loved ❤this …
This is neat!! I saw someone selling this on Etsy and had to look it up! Thanks for sharing 😁🙌🏻
Crazy, my grandad actually has one of these on his desk right now.
I used to have one of those. Loved being a kid.
Very nice dtmf-phone 80s design; the interface is great, working only with red leds, blinking and solid, along with basic sound waves gives the toy a unique characteristic look and feel, nice demo 👍
Thanks for watching!
Pretty good video, I've just received a Merlin the electronic wizard game that I bought on Ebay and I really like it. :)
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching

WOW I forgot all about this game. Cool to see old stuff from when I was a kid. You see "Simon" games all over in different form factors all the time to this day.
True. I picked up a Vintage Simon game a couple of months back at an estate sale. Thanks for watching
This brought back a memory, got this game and the Wildfire game both for Christmas in 1980, both if memory serves were made by Parker Brothers.
I actually had this as a kid I loved it. Became great at knots and crosses 😂
Even before seeing it powered up, built in the 70's ment it would still work, things built back then have a tendency to work even after decades, unlike alot of today's stuff!~
Very true !
I had one of these in 1980. Blackjack was my favourite game.
Thanks for watching!
I had this and every night I slept with it and when the adults thought I was asleep, I was playing my Merlin by covering the speaker so they wouldn't hear it.
Now I need one!! Loved it❤
That's awesome it still works. I loved that game.
I agree, amazes me that it still does. Thanks for watching
Five years after the video was posted and 11 years after the video was made, I got out my Merlin. Fresh batteries and it ........ works! Retro rules!
Howdy Ray what memory right there wow!!!
Hey Mike, those were the days!
I still have this.
Boy seeing this game, woke up some memory cells . I dont remember an instruction book?
More please. I remember my cousins having this as a kid. I wanted to play it but wasn't smart enough to figure out how to work it
Thanks for watching. I am planning to do an update video one of these days.
My great grandmother hsd this game at her house and when i was young i spent hours trying to figure it out lol.
Still have mine and works great. I am missing the battery cover, but otherwise still awesome retro game with great sound effects for the time it came out. (still kinda catchy)
Awesome! I had that game!!!
I borrowed this game from my old neighbor, and I always had a difficult time winning it.
and back in the box it goes for another 45 years!!!
This was my favorite game as a kid wish I still had mine but er had a house fire and everything was lost ...but anyway great memories
I still have mine. and yes it still works.
Thanks 4 sharing 🤘
No problem 👍
I played this all the time as a kid. Especially when i was on restriction. Let's say I was pretty good at Magic square 😅
I wish I kept mine from the 80s.
Didn't know led bulbs were around then, that's odd. I have to laugh at the amount of batteries those old toys took even more odd. 😆
Wow, I've not seen one of these in ages.
It is a vintage item for sure. 42 years old now.
Excellent! Just excellent 😢
Thsnks for watching
I loved this game.
Wow, great memories!
Absolutely! Thank you for watching
I still own mine. Those were the days. You could play a game without being interrupted by notifications. You were completely alone with your entertainment.

@@AVTreasures When someone bothers me in a notification I just send a pic of myself shaking my fist at them. That'll learn them!
@@Del-Canada Ha! I should try that!
I loved this game as a child …..I Just purchased this game but I can’t remember how to play black jack……Can you do a video on it?
I remember seeing this as a kid, and it seemed way too advanced and intimidating for me, funny...
The moment it turned on....... ❤❤❤
I know, right. That sound is an echo from a different time!
My broke when I was a kid. I was devastated . I bought an app for this game. Bring back memories. I don't know how to play 3, 4, 5, 6. Tech me please.
That tic-tac-toe strategy works on people too
My Mom bought me that game. I was 11 yrs old the year it came out.
My very first gaming rig! Thankfully computer games have improved every year since then.
Very cool flashback!
Thanks for watching Tom and I appreciate your comment!
Love love love my Merlin I still have mine
wow that brings back memories
It sure does. Thanks for watching!
i remember having this for YEARS....i dont remember the instruction manual..LOL
I am amazed that I still have the instruction manual after all these years.
Back in 1978 Merlin was $44.95 it was considered an expensive toy to get back then.😊
I had one as a kid back in the day and bought one today for just $20.00. No book.
Awesome! You got a good deal.
Awesome and thank you!
Thanks for the comment! No problem!
