Having played the roll of the M.C. myself many times and loving having performed the more German dark Expressionist 90s revival version., I was beyond delighted to see the new Cabaret revival at the August Wilson with Eddie and Gayle. I'm saddened to see some rather mean comments about the show on social media. Sadly most American theatre goers have never picked up a novel so they have no clue about Christopher Isherwood, or have seen previous versions of the show. Many of the ingenious symbolism and historical references in sets, theatre experience, costumes etc go over most American audiences heads. I loved the fact you enter through a side door through the labyrinth of corridors, bars etc before you make it to the stage area. You are even offered a Schnapps and interact in bar areas with members of the cast. You really fee immersed in the experience. The eye symbology everywhere feels so surreal voyeuristic.. Who is being watched the actors or the audience? Eddie's harlequin Pierrot Lunnaire M.C. is uniquely disturbing as the symbolism of loss of childlike innocence and the lock into a surreal grotesque depravity. It is a fascinating production. I recently saw Eddie's interview with Jimmy Fallon where he is teaching him the opening number Wilkommen choreo.. and Eddie says "this is where you tickle the balls".. LOL Yep where can one go to see a Broadway show and get their balls tickled LOL> Also the cast is so humble, adorable and appreciative of their fans. As a musical theatre vocalist and acting coach it made me see the show with fresh eyes. And it is also nice to see Eddie looking a bit more buff and healthy. It takes incredible stamina to do 8 shows a week. People have no idea LOL. The only thing missing where hot blonde German rent balls named Dieter or Friedrich one could purchase while at the show LOL. But def. a show worth seeing. And of course both Eddie and Gayle nominated for Tonys. Well-deserved.

We really enjoyed the show and thought the whole cast was excellent, and Eddie has reached new heights with this role...I can't even begin to imagine how demanding that role is. We loved the whole theater setup as well. Honestly I have absolutely nothing but praise, and we were a party of 4; all of us liked it. I'm honestly not worried about the negative criticism, true actors such as Eddie go beyond it, even though it might not be easy. Fantastic show, pure talent and everybody in the cast is thankful and humble.
