That's a brilliant guide to starting up beach fishing. Can't believe how much you managed to cover in under 20 minutes, and the added bonus of a few fish to ..Excellent .👍
Really great video guide I have to say. I've been fishing recreationally in the UK for about 5 months now and had to learn everything by myself from RUclips vids. I learnt some new things and helpful tips from this vdeo so all I can say is thank you!
Nice, informative video for beginners.👏 Sometimes it's good to look at the basics and realise we've been sucked in and are overcomplicating our fishing.🤔😲 Thanks for sharing, take care and stay safe.😷🙊
The quiver bag looks like a great idea. I have a bag for the rod but when you carry the rods, tripod, fold up chair etc... There are loads of things haha.
Great stuff Matt. I have so much stuff that I rarely visit tackle shops, but when I do I can't but help to think how bewildering it must be for beginners. So much choice and So many products. Even hooks I really have to search to find what I want, and I know exactly what I want ......😆😆😆
Im just about to start Sea fishing and Im looking through your videos for the last two days, I feel like there's a lot of useful information compacted in them, easy to watch, entertaining, straight to the point, already learnt a lot lot. Thanks dude
Cool, you might want to keep rods in their own bags in the quiver. That will protect the rings and keep them in good nick. Glad to see you've got rid of that abomination with the broken tip. Another great vid.
Awesome again Matt a lot of sharks around at the moment feeding on bait fish hard 2 pull fish in without getting sharked and ending up with only a head .Just heard teenage girl killed by shark in Swan river yesterday. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick
I'm new to your channel Matt and enjoying it very much. I have been sea fishing for about 40 years but there's always something to learn. I've been away from it for a couple of years but itching to get back to it now. Particularly interested in the bass lure fishing content as although I've had some good success over the years with bait fishing for bass, I've neglected the lures. Like many, this time of the year is a struggle for fishing in my area (Hampshire/Solent), so wishing the time away somewhat at the moment !. Keep up the good work.
Thanks , yes we are all waiting for spring really. Normally that first peeler crab moult should be happening any time now ( seems to get earlier each year) - you should be able to get year round bass in your area but it won’t be long until the real fun begins on the lures
I leave about an inch on both tails of a leader knot, I think cutting them off short causes two quick jarring actions going through mainly the runners, mainly the tip end one.. Leaving a tail on the tag ends helps them pass through more smoothly. Also a bit of vaseline on the knot and ends reduces friction aswell.
I live on the south west coast of Scotland fishing is hard at this time of the year for bass Pollock what's it like down ure way wee get some big bass in the summer friend had a 13 lb from shore
@@SaltwaterAngler my mate has had a double figure Pollock from one of marks and I've been snapped of a few times off with 28/b braid and a 20/leader with wrasse and Pollock it's such a difference catching them in deep water I do a lot of salmon fishing but pound for pound wrasse and Pollock are the best fighting fish u could hook
I use to live in the house next to the bait shop you was in, in the 1960's you can go through the house without going into a room twice but the front door was note at the side it was at the front and it didn't have a bathroom it was a tin bath in the front room in front of the range
Ahh yes I did wonder if anyone would mention that - there are beach works everywhere at the moment and that was a reversing dozer! Last week it was a kango drill 😂
I love this video, it's so helpful. It's been years since I was fishing. I fell out of love with it, but motivated to restart. I'm from Kent. I'm looking at a new rod, you suggest upto 6 oz, I'm considering 8oz as I might fish dungeness which I remember being quite intense, so not sure if 6oz will be OK?? A penn tidal XR with matching reel comes to mind. I'm also starting lure/float fishing and have everything I need for that. Please let me know your thoughts, and thanks again for your videos, your lagoon video was awesome too 👍
Yes with rod ratings a 6oz will still cast an 8oz at a push just needs to be a slower cast.Remember grip leads and rig choice also help keep a lead on the bottom. Pretty extreme conditions if using and 8 oz. I’d consider continental rods for 90% of south coast beach fishing.
Hi Matt , off to Bognor Regis next week .Taking the kids to Butlins...I'm from the Midlands so don't get much chance to beach fish . I have beach rods 4-7 oz . I was planning to use fish baits. any tips or advice please. Many thanks and thanks for the great vids ..kind regards Paul 👍🏻
Have fun! Having lived in land in my teens and keen to fish the sea i know how this feels ! I must admit i do scan facebook for the area your intending to fish. I also have a back catalogue of sea angler mark guides to reference too. Another way is to phone Bognor's sea fishing tackle shop and ask for a good beginners mark. That area might see a few smoothound in Spring, the first small bass and a chance of Plaice too. All depends on tides and conditions - Historically not the best time of year - But things are starting to pick up. Let us know how you get A quick search found this group - not sure how good it is onfacebook.com/groups/783492568500898/?locale=en_GB
I went second time fishing since I was a child and i was going with my grandfather. I bought Shimano TX1 about £30 i think its carp rod and a massive Shimano Reel about £70. I spooled the first time some 15lb carp line Korda mono. When I was casting 100-gram weight the one that is for distance casting. It snapped and I heard the lead going fsssss near my ear somewhere. For my second trip I bought 20-something lb Daiwa J Braid x4 dark green. In addition, I bought the sea rigs that you showed. I do not know how it happened but when I was pulling the line, I saw a massive knot on the braid. Took a while to sort it out. I managed to do one very good cast, the feeling is very nice once you get it right. I am looking now to get a proper surf rod and reel. Do you know where, is the best spot to catch some big fish from beach or pier or sea wall in the area between Portsmouth and Dover? The first time I got 6 dogfish from the seawall Samphire Hoe. Delicious fish but nightmare to clean the skin, I used pliers… The second time I did not catch anything on West Arm the Marina in Brighton. BTW Great videos!
Well right here on aSaltwater Angler is a good resource we often mention Minimum size limits- Personally i like British Sea fishing website for things like that too - We benefit in Sea Angling in not being too heavily regulated(so far)
Horses for courses 7oz can be the ideal weight in some strong currents. As a casting weight it is a bit heavy and needs good technique to cast well. 5oz generally a sweet spot for most beach rods. But a decent traditional shore rod from brands like conoflex, Daiwa and the re introduced zziplex will have no problems with 5-6 oz Depends where you are fishing do you actually need 7 oz. Rig design can also help
I mode a group on fb it’s got over 50k members the biggest questions come from two groups of people those starting for the first time and those coming back after a break. Can I share your video on there? I think it would help those on that are starting out or coming back to the sport

Absolute legend mate. Your videos are a huge help for beginners like myself into this hobby 👍🏻
Means a lot, keep it simple, learn one mark well. Get some fundamentals then question things as you go.

Outstanding upload, fishing on and off ,for 30years, very informative and helpful to new starters. Great stuff. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk.
Thanks for saying that Mike 👍
Another cracking video Matt. This ones gives beginners an idea of what is needed to get on the beach and start fishing.

Crikey! Thanks for the update again Nick! Yes we got that sad new here in the u.k too - assumed bull shark ?
I'm a relative beginner and haven't used a leader before. Time to try it
Yep it’s a good starting point. Go tapered to save yourself some problems when casting
Well done once again matt!!

Great video mate! My brother brought that cheap dennet rod it's actually a nice rod
Nice 👍
Thanks for a great informative video.

Our bass fishing best in October November, biggest pollack here is about 1lb ! Underrated for bass on your coast line I recon ! 🤫

I always take a bottle of fresh water and empty it over my braided spools on my reels before casting a good soaking stops those first cast wind knots
Good tip 👍

How interesting, the old town has always been a bit different like that. I lived very close too for a while
Can I ask why you placed your rod at an angle to the water? Does it serve a specific purpose?
Do I keep hearing a vehicle reversing in the background of your videos?
Super informative, by the way. Thank you.

Have a look at some options on the website here. Asso a good brand for budget/ value

Thanks for this comments - lots to think about here- if you like the chance of bigger fish try Dover Admiralty pier for smoothound and bass.
Do you prefer using soft plastics or metal jigs when bass fishing
Soft plastics
