Underated yes, but even the smallest amount of intelligence makes them easy fights. Ironically a protective suit is all that's needed for both of them - they're not even close to his most deadly enemies. Darkseid and Doomsday are much higher on that scale.

I always hated that Superman's collection of allies were called "Team Superman" but Batman's hodge-podge of adopted kids, wards of the state, and hangers on were called "The Bat Family." I don't know Bruce building a surrogate family around himself or them calling themselves a family but Superman is LITERALLY related to more than half of his allies by blood/DNA. I also hated that, in spite of this, his allies felt less connected and there for each other than Batman's clique of vigilante teens.

Metallo is Superman's strongest villain that is defeated by the writers room. Superman never needs to even get out of bed to beat him. Superman is bullet proof but a kryptonite bullet goes right through him, meaning pretty much anything Metallo does will kill Superman. So he does nothing. Superman could use a regular radiation suit that humans make and kick Metallo's backside... or even more straightforward, he doesn't need to even work hard... move at ultra-speed get close and crush his head or rip his arms and legs apart... let the regular humans come around and collect the pieces... or even better to mock Metallo, weld his kryptonite chest thing closed with his heat vision before he realizes what happened... walk up to him grab him fly him to the sun and throw him in there... not like it would take more than 5 minutes to never have to worry about him again... Metallo is hardly a difficult adversary... it's just that they have to make Superman stupid just like the Batman v Superman movie... take a small metal object throw it at him... watch as his body explodes from the impact of a metal object flying at near-light speeds colliding with his body. Cut him apart with heat vision and melt the stuff into slag until even the kryptonite is destroyed...using x-ray on his electronics until they fry, on his brain until it is nothing but mush... there are so many ways to win in an instant without even getting close it's not even funny.
