    As someone serving in a military, the M26 looks super annoying to run around with. I'd much rather have a standard "masterkey" system, where the rounds are fed through a tube underneath the barrel, like a standard shotgun. Having this giant magazine makes it stupid difficult to operate when prone, or when trying to fire from cover. At least that is what it looks like to me. Big, bulky and heavy, but at least you can shoot hinges off lol.

    I worked on this shotgun and hated it. If the choke tightened the shot pattern more it may help with drones but it’s was made for breaching doors with Graphite breaching rounds. I keep wondering if someone will make a 20ga or 410 master key to have an under barrel drone defense shotgun thats lighter then a 12ga. You could even do it with a semi auto shot gun. Just have to put the recoil spring around the tube magazine. I saw a gunsmith at bentwood gunsmithing in Vegas do the that trick.

      @@kez0o9It’s surprisingly light, about 5.3 lbs with the standalone stock assembly. The Mossberg 500 is about ~7 lbs. Which is part of the problem.
      Despite the recoil absorber in the stock, the M16A2 pistol grip and in-line design of the stock amplify felt recoil by driving it straight into your shoulder and web of the hand. The heavier traditional-stock Mossberg is far more comfortable since it has more mass to absorb the recoil and doesn’t drive all the recoil straight back into your shoulder and hand.

  • @Alexander-yb1zc
    @Alexander-yb1zc 5 дней назад +7

    I heard that Ukrainian squads had swapped out one of their rifleman for a guy with a mossberg 500 for anti drone capabilities.
    This seems like a perfect blend of keeping that extra rifle and anti drone capabilities, even with an imperfect system with the M26.
    Its worth nothing that drone propellers are extremly fragile and don't need much to fracture.

    • @jamesmurdock4830

    • @TheDarksideFNothing
      @TheDarksideFNothing 2 дня назад

      From the sound of things these are trash though and the choke on them makes them terrible for trying to shoot flying targets. Plus I can only imagine being underslung makes it that much more difficult to hit anything.
      Honestly, id want something like a Midland backpack over that.
      And at least with the Mossberg you can still reasonably engage targets out to 75-100m with buckshot when you're not shooting at drones.
      I'm just super glad none of these are problems I personally need to solve. It's all so terrifying.

    • @Alexander-yb1zc
      @Alexander-yb1zc День назад

      @TheDarksideFNothing Given that the Russians are creating an improvised version as shown in the Video and the Ukrainians are using a sub optimal system there's must be something about the underslung shotgun that makes it superior to the Mossberg.
      Watching recent combat footage drones are so numerous and deadly now, there was a video a channel called the chosen company put out where there were literally waves of drones coming at them and they were switching from firing at guys on the ground to shooting drones then back to the ground.
      In that environment I can imagine having an underslung capacity is significantly better than having a mossberg as you don't have waste time swapping over firing then swapping back.
      The one good thing is that drones are very easy to knock out, their rotors are very fragile and if one rotor breaks the whole system falls out the sky.
      So I cam imagine with a little bit of modification to the choke you could have a system that works very well if not perfect.

    I was an armorer in the us army and my unit had 10 of the M26s. Most everyone thought they were cool until they actually got to use them. I took one look at them and knew that they would probably only be good at breaching. I’ve talked to soldiers that deployed with the M26 and they said that they usually just left them in their HMMWV. So, some of the people that carried them felt that no shotgun was still better than this shotgun.

    A nice dual-purpose weapon. Works on drones and the enemy, too!
    I have looked at the RIA/Armscor VR80 for a home defense weapon, and it fits the bill. It can be fitted with an M4 carbine stock, so it should be an easy switch from those that are used to an AR type firearm.
    The addition of those to the UA would be a plus and add additional range to drone pigeon shooting with the three additional chokes that come with it, 20" bbl and #2 shot or buck for an increased spread. Gas operation is a plus.
    BTW, the VR80 also shoots slugs with ease. As for a trade off, it would appear that there's not a lot of humping (patrolling) so if you're in a trench warfare situation the weight is only a distant second.
    The M97 1917 12ga Winchester trench sweeper was an excellent weapon during WWI.

      I doubt this would be very effective against drones at all, because not only is it ergonomically shit and a bolt action that effectively only gives you a single shot at a time…. It has an extremely short barrel that’s going to give you a very wide dispersal pattern very quickly and you’re not going to be able to engage at target passed about 15 feet.

      Len, that's what the M97 Winchester WWI shotgun was used for, trench clearing. You can clear a much larger area with one shotgun blast that you can with a full auto rifle in a trench. Each 00 buck round is .355 in diameter so it's the same as a 38 Special, 357 or 9mm but a whole lot more of them all at once. Chances of a miss with a shotgun blast at close range is negligible.

      Of course it depends on if you're in the defense or attacking. It certainly isn't a "one size fits all" war.
      From all the vids I've watched, an APC gets the troops close to the tree line and then the dismounts enter it. Firing at the 'sound' with a shotgun blast gives you a much better chance of a hit than a rifle round. Guaranteed that fireing into a bunker with a shotgun will be much more effective than with a rifle. The psychological effect would be tremendous just from the blast noise alone and encourage the defender to chu Hoi (surrender).

      I was thinking more of a single-use "roman candle" giving a rapid - if erratic - cloud of lead in a last ditch scenario without busting up the firer too much.

      @Hornet_Legion: They do. It's a 20" bbl, gas operated, semiautomatic 12ga Armscor/RIA VR80. AR style, available with an 9 or 19 round magazine. An M4 carbine stock is adaptable to it.
      Affordable and dependable at around $500+ last time I checked.

    The best weapon for drones, soldiers can carry is the American 180. It is a .22 long open bolt, submachine gun with a cycle rate of 1200 rpm. It uses high quality pan magazines with 275 being the largest. Sitting on top it offers quick change. The weapon has excellent accuracy. It has good ergonomics and would be excellent with polymer stock pistol/fore grips. 22 long gives it an accuracy well over 200 meters. And carries enough energy to destroy FPVs. The weapon is still made in the US, although in semiauto only.

    In post Soviet countries we don't use shotguns in police or army forces. They even had a 12 gouge models, designed especially for police, but our cops still use handguns, SMG and short AKs.
    Because shotguns has no breaching ability due to metal doors. All houses and apartments has metal doors only. That's why all post Soviet country's SWAT use explosives or disc saw to cut through the doors.
    Russian and Ukrainian police has a huge 4 gouge shotgun (KS23), but they use it to throw small gas grenades during riot control operations.
    So the first shotguns in Russian or Ukrainian armys appeared during current conflict. All these pieces are civilian long barrel hunting shotguns, to reach the drones. These are pump action, semi auto, or even double barrel shotguns. These are civilian guns, that soldiers buy themselves. So they can't use it against enemy infantry by laws of war. Both sides use them as a tool against drones only.

      there's no restrictions on the use of shotguns by the laws of war

    • @nickolaypalamarchuk4100
      @nickolaypalamarchuk4100 День назад

      @salvagedude625 yes, but there is one to use your personal weapon, that is not given to you by your army. Even in US you can't bring your crossbow with poisoned bolts, or revolver with expanding bullets to the battlefield. There are international restrictions for all armys. But they are not apply on civilians or police. Civilian and police gun laws are local ones, and very different in every country.
      For example non lethal rubber buckshot for shotguns is prohibited in Russia. But the actual buckshot is OK. This weird rule is made to prevent using all strange projectiles like "dragon breathe" or nail shaped projectiles. Cuz some of them can cause an unnecessary suffering.
