These cops know the law and what they are doing. They don’t agree with the limitations the law places on them, that is the problem. It is incredible. A random guy on YT who's never been outside of Europe, knows more about the civil rights in the US than a cop who has been trained to enforce the law and does it for a living, with the ability to take away the freedom of another person.
@ cops are not trained to enforce laws they are trained to write tickets and generate revenue. police care very little for any crime unless they can get money out of it.
America needs a legion of Jeff Grays ..this guy has to be one of the best auditors in America ..I hope the local population show their thoughts on this business by blanking it ..
@fredator76 The business decided they could grant Powers they DON'T HAVE to a government agency to have someone removed from public property. Every time this is done LE usurps a little more undelagated power. Learn the Constitution!!!!
I've been frequenting that restaurant for years and....now....they will never see another dollar of mine. Shame on them for treating Jeff that way. Stupid cops!!
As a veteran, I'm appalled how can you take an oath to something and not have read it.we all swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic . It's absolutely a shame they haven't read it.
In this particular case the cops were clearly wrong and should have known that they were (and likely even knew that they were). That said, I have no idea why you think merely reading the constitution is all one needs to do in order to understand it. None of the rights recognized and protected in the constitution are without limits. One person's exercise of a right can conflict with another person's exercise of a right, and a balancing of rights must be hashed out through legislation and case law, which the police must then learn and apply.
@COTTFLIX Or may "yall" are smart enough to understand that one doesn't need to define all cops as "good guys" or "bad guys", though I understand it's a convenient thing for people who aren't really into thinking to do.
@COTTFLIX Using "yall" doesn't indicate a lack of intellect. It was, and remains, the other thing. I quoted "yall" because it isn't at all clear who you're talking to as every single post above yours in the thread is critical of the police.

Copers as usual, sadly, even more disgusting. They should know the law before cuffing someone. They don't care cause they can't be held accountable for their stupidity and violence. It IS an act of violence to seize someone.
If someone was within 2 feet of a business doorway and encroaching on 'personal space', then the business might have a case, but 30 ft away on a public sidewalk? What kind of entitled attitude do they have to mess with someone minding their own business? Shameful.
I called and spoke to a representative in the mayors office. She has clearly received numerous phone calls in reference to this already while she was polite. Her tone was basically you don’t live in Hattiesburg so it’s not your problem. The problem with her line of thought is, it’s not Hattiesburg‘s constitution it’s a constitution of the United States and I used to live in Hattiesburg. I’m a native of Mississippi grew up in Hancock county in which the city of Waveland is part of Hancock county so this entire tour through the state of Mississippi, but he has conducted over the past couple of months has reinforce the feelings that I’ve had about law enforcement for a long time.

Hope you have a Mississippi attorney on retainer. These folks are among the most ignorant and unprofessional government bureaucrats and LEOs in the country.
Please tell us that you intend to file a civil action against these tyrants. The Hattiesburg PD are poorly educated, and they need to pay their tuition so that they can be brought up to speed.
Gotta love the damage control in the end. “I violated your rights, illegally detained and identified you, kept you cuffed in car for 30 mins but would you like some water?” 😅

NOW JUST HOW IS HE MAKING A CHANGE? IF THE COPS CAN RUN HIM OFF LIKE THEY DID THEN HOW IS THAT MAKING A CHANGE. GOING TO JAIL, THEN GETTING A LAWYER AND SUING THEM WOULD MAKE A CHANGE. THEN THESE STUPID HILLBILLY COPS WOULD FACE THE COURT FOR THEIR ACTIONS. RIGHT NOW THEY AREN'T FACING ANYTHING. OH AND BTW. ISN'T IT IRONIC THAT A BLACK MAN VIOLATES THE CIVIL RIGHTS OF SOMEONE.

I don’t understand why that business owner thinks it’s OK for him to put his signs out on the sidewalk and yet when Jeff stands there with a sign, that’s not OK and he calls the police. That guy is a significant hypocrite and I hope that a lot of people complain about his sign. Of course, the cop was ignorant of the laws and there is no excuse for that. If you’re going to enforce the laws, you should understand the laws you’re going to enforce and not just make it up based upon your reasoning and logic. The law is the law and personal reasoning has nothing to do with it. Jeff is a great American hero.
I keep thinking of all the times (going back decades) of all the things cops and said, done, perpetuated, and lied about before cameras became more prevelant. Jeff, you're doing outstanding work.
How many innocent people have been jailed over the years because they didn't have video evidence showing how the cops really acted? It's gotta be an insane number of people.
As a business guy, i am baffled by their lack of seeing the marketing oppportunity. Its a great cause. Ask Jeff if they could team up and create a higher profile. Id ask to bring in a radio station on site. Look at the promotion for Vets and your business.
My husband is the newspaper writer who covers this area and he was at city council today when someone brought this before the council. Apparently one council member said that they wouldn’t even put the statement issued in the minutes - not sure how that is even legal.
Notice a trend in Mississippi when he speaks to the elected officials or their representatives mayor and Goucher great job city manager in Gulfport, Mr. Hughes great job code enforcement guy in Hattiesburg. Great job runs in the cops, forest terrible job. Hattiesburg illegally detained him Waveland, which was just a train wreck, and Ocean Springs was the same. All of those were law-enforcement officers, who don’t even know the basics of the constitution, and the laws in which they are in charge to enforce. It’s almost like in whatever academy they attended. This was never discussed. And then it absolutely shows that there is zero continuing education for those officers here’s your badge your gun in your bullet Barney go hit the street.
I am sooo impressed at the guts you have displayed to hit all these towns in MS. One of the issues in MS is that the criminal code is almost incomprehensible. Heck, cursing in public is still listed as an offense, even though it has been ruled unconstitional. The state legislature is too lazy to fix it. Requirements to ID are nowhere to be found. Since the cops are barely literate, and do not care to learn anything new, they do what they feel like. The magistrates are as unknowledgeable as the cops.
The depositions should be entertaining to hear when they get to face their consequences, and that is what I love about you, they will face consequences.
We see how exhausted you are.. both mentally, emotionally, and physically..... thank you... thank you!!!!!! Please don't stop. We love you and stand with you
Hattiesburg, so much for Southern Hospitality! I am gobsmacked, the local police don't understand the constitution. We need to fund and un-leash an army of Civil Rights Attorneys to sue these localities into oblivion until they understand they cannot tread on rights.
When he said "wait right here" you should ask if you're being detained even if you planned on staying right there anyway. Make them dig the hole deeper.
The cops bootlick the rich whose influence can get them fired, and in turn expect the same deference from the poor, who cannot afford to buy justice when they are unjustly arrested.
This was embarrassing. I'm so sorry, Jeff. Thanks for putting yourself through that for the greater good. I hope you bring forth change in the city of Hattiesburg. They need to be re-trained and re-educated.

None of the rights recognized and protected in the constitution are without limits. One person's exercise of a right can conflict with another person's exercise of a right, and a balancing of rights must be hashed out through legislation and case law, which the police must then learn and apply.
