But only after Jeff pressed the point. I give them an F because the first officer tried to trespass Jeff and get his ID before even asking any real questions
The officers did NOT trespass him. They did not ultimately violate his rights by ARRESTING him. The engagement was not hostile or escalating. Borderline ethical encroachment, but nothing I would think would win Jeff anything in court. Cops are legally allowed to LIE during their interaction. They are humans too, who make mistakes. I expect accountability from everyone, especially them. As from this video and their body cams, I thought the interaction was within their duty and nothing beyond. They even told the supervisors that he was in his rights to be there. How many videos have been shown that many officers don't do 1/100th of what these officers did to come to the proper determination? If only more officers conducted themselves closer to this standard. From the myriad of other videos I've seen I would give them a B-/C+ They did not arrest Jeff. They did not Trespass him. They researched the law before coming to any decision. They informed the voting staff that Jeff had a right to be there. There are soooo many ways this could have gone wrong. Cut them some slack.
They eventually did what they should have done before making contact?.. thats what passes for good police work? Edit: the cop that arrived after contact was made did a good job. And the original cop didnt push it. This wasnt a bad showing. Ill give you that one..

He's the one I'd give the C+. At the very least he did the team work with the other officer to make the right call. And again, they did not issue a trespass nor arrest Jeff. They also didn't escalate the situation by being aggressive and in his face. So, compared to many of these videos, he did...meh, ok.

I love how this sign continues to be such a point of contention in your videos. As you stated in your other video, you have gotten more heat with these simple words than almost anything else.
It's the sharpie on cardboard. It has become a symbol for homeless panhandling. No matter what the holder is doing or what the sign actually says, because it is cardboard people assume the worse and want cops mobilized to threaten.
I was going to say, what about if they were recording when emergency family call comes in, but it can just be redacted by police before making available as public record. I guess there really is no valid reason to ever mute the mic 🤷♂️

Good job guys! It’s so refreshing when they treat us with respect and try to defend our rights. This is what real policing looks like. They were unclear on what solicitation meant, but they looked into it and resolved it accordingly.
I continue to be amazed by how many people don't grasp the concept of what soliciting is. Thank you for showing their reaction to the officer's explanation!
I’m feeling light headed! I thought I was having a waking dream so I asked my husband to pinch me and grab some smelling salts! LO AND BEHOLD it was real! TWO officers took the time to investigate what their action should be by looking up the actual statute that applied to the situation. Just typing those words gave me the vapours. Jeff, through your hard work and dedication you caught on film, in the wild, the mythical beast of modern policing… the super rare reasonable law enforcement officer with bonus powers of level-headedness, rational, intelligent AND critical thinking, along with low ego reserves and medium to high interpersonal likability. The extremely common God complex feelings enforcement officer is captured on film almost everyday, as you well know. Congrats Jeff! Thank you for what you do and allowing us to ride along with you 😊

Where the Armed Fisherman lives the law states that one can open carry a gun to and from going fishing. He tests the law and what we all have seen, the police failed miserably.
That first officer is a tyrant, mutting his mic, and then also trying to trespass him with no right or authority. Glad the officer in the squad car stepped up and said no he is within his rights to do what he is doing. Great video Jeff keep up the great work.
The officer in the car is doing an excellent job. I wish we had more like him. He was more concerned about the rights of Jeff than he was anything else. 🤟
Watched the video all the way through and was surprised by the outcome. I liked the way the officers investigated, then made rational, factual decisions and did not look to enforce feelings... makes a great change. Congrats to those officers and of course always to Jeff..
It's honestly amazing to me how stupid the people are now who wear the badge. They must ask them if they hate America, hate people and think that people who are forced to pay their salaries deserve to be abused. If they answer yes to all the questions they hire them and they get promoted every single time they get a complaint. Thank you Jeff, happy Veterans day to you sir. I'm taking my husband to the program our granddaughters school is putting on for our veterans and then out to lunch. Stay safe everyone.
With that said these officers did the right thing and deserve to be commended for that. They investigated and did not violate Jeff's constitutional rights.
I'd hardly say these cops are stupid. They acknowledged that they were in a legal grey area and took steps to educate themselves to make sure they didn't violate his rights. That's the opposite of stupid in my book.
Also, I'd probably say back in the day before bodycams and phone cameras cops likely got away with A LOT more violation of people's rights knowing that the victim couldn't document it.
I know it’s been said before but it’s worth seeing it again I believe they should in no way shape or form be able to mute their microphones at any point in time as long as they’re engaged in an active stop or interaction.
@@brianbickle7395 imagine working at a store or restaurant with security cameras with audio surveillance you could mute and turn off any time you want. Once again, fine work sir. I still can’t believe how long it takes people to figure out you are NOT soliciting. I also love how they always try to come up with a story about you taking money from people. “One of my workers saw him walk up to somebody and ask for money”. LIES! Thank you for educating!
In this case solicitation is not monetary in nature but political and since Jeff’s message is neither it’s unlikely he is committing a campaign violation. However this is one of the few times where feelings are enshrined in law and a court might conclude his actions “intimidate” voters and find Jeff liable in a civil capacity. Not a lawyer so take my comments as opinion. The cop in the car was excellent the initial cop a little reactionary but level headed enough to listen to Jeff and think through to the fact that this wasn’t as black and white as he thought it was.
I can't say with any certainty, but I would like to believe that the hard work you and others like you have done has made great progress in educating officers such as these fine gentleman. I don't mean that to be condescending, but it's always refreshing to see officers respecting citizens and being absolutely cautious about potentially violating their individual rights. Bravo, officers. I don't say it often, but you have my respect! More of this, please.
These officers get an A-. They did try to intimidate at first, but after he held his ground they realized what was going on. Thank you Jeff for what you do. May God bless you
Let's give credit where credit is due; those cops did an outstanding job! We need more like those two. "They own the building not the parking lot" says all you need to know about that officer.
Did they do a good job? They could not understand the definition of what soliciting is… they pushed it as hard as they could. And muting his mic is suspect.
@@gzo313 would you rather them not do due diligence and just violate his rights? Would made for more exciting content I guess but would further push the divide. Those two officers took the time to learn rather than pounce so yes I think it's a step in the right direction.
I thought all the owners of the plaza owned the parking lot as they all were responsible for maintaining it. Similar to being a member of an HOA that has a swimming pool and other facilities such as a gym technically anyone that's a member of the HOA are owners of the pool and gym.
@@ariefraiser140 With a commercial lease, typically the renter is responsible for the safe operation of their business in compliance with fire, labor, and safety ordinances/laws. The lease may specify what hours that business can operate (such as "no operations between midnight and 6AM"), or what items can't be sold (so that two businesses are not competing over the same customer base by both selling fried chicken, for example), where and when trash is to be deposited and so on. The renter is typically responsible for their own utility costs, and a portion of the cost of the common roadside sign. The lease will usually include a CAM (Common Area Maintenance) fee which covers things like trash and leaf removal, snowplowing (where it snows) and lawnmowing. The property owner deals with all building and external maintenance such as roof leaks, parking lot maintenance/paving/line painting out of the rents they take in, or as part of the CAM fee. - Source: I have had a commercial lease, and read a couple of others. Funny how the election committee people came out and said no soliciting of any type, when they had to walk by a sign in the same area that was advertising a 'Wellness Fair".
I am absolutely 100% impressed by these officers. Very nice Jeff! The use of the police body-cam footage inside the polling station and the patrol car is great; I'm glad it wasn't redacted to a useless mess. Excellent story-telling and a good outcome. Thank you for your efforts.
Well, renters have rights. They "own" the property as long as they pay the rent on the lease. It applies to those who rent apartments as well as store fronts in malls. Usually a syndicate of investors would own the entire mall property and have a property manager to handle the day to day operations of the mall.
This should be a training video for law enforcement across America. Not saying it is perfect, its far from that but it gives me hope. Thank you Jeff this is excellent content
He plays to their pre-conceived notions. Easy to criticize when you already know his intent. The officers knew exactly what he was doing hence the body cam comment.

I find it disconcerting that the one cop admitted to enforcing trespass laws incorrectly , " we do it all the time ". I believe the cop should get training in trespass laws .
Very impressed with the police officers with the exception of muting the mic. They should never mute or turn off the video during a call. Nice job, Jeff. Great to see the body cams.
Very impressive, not only how diligent the police were in ensuring they were only acting with in their authority and ensuring they weren’t infringing on your rights, but also that it seems they never even asked for your ID. I admire the dispassionate attitude and humility to recognize they may not fully understand all the laws they are tasked to enforce, and to take the time to look up the details before trying to enforce anything they don’t fully know. I can’t help but think that maybe your work has contributed to this improved police attitude.
This is a great video , you are promoting discussion amongst the police officers about the actual laws , they are thinking about your rights and coming to the correct conclusion rather than flexing the badge and agreeing with the complainant. Wonderful job Jeff .
Excellent behavior on the part of the police officers. They made a sincere effort to ascertain the legal aspects of the situation, did not bark tyrant orders or disrespect Jeff. They were aware that one tenant does not have trespassing authority for an entire multi-tenant facility and the topic of “panhandling” was not even introduced. How nice it would be if all police officers were this professional. ……👍✌️❤️

Very rarely do I say this anymore, good job officers! Thank you for doing your do diligence and not stomping on somebody's rights just because of your ego.
I appreciate you playing the good and not just the bad. After watching so many poor examples it gives me hope to see these two do the homework and make an educated decision.
The first officer only left Jeff alone because his superior told him to. Even while his supervisor was telling him that it was wrong he was still trying to make excuses on why he should remove him. The lip service and spin doctors have done a wonderful job of hiding the true character of the common man for all these years, that being, he is a subject here in America, the same as he was a subject under the Crown, only here he is called a "citizen". There is no difference.

Great point on the 150’ rule on solicitation, all of the shops that are within 150’ if they have signs they have to remove the signs.
Perfect example of proper policing, kudos to the officers involved here.
Thanks Jeff, for all you do....keep spreading the word brother!
I really respect the way the officers actually investigated the law to find out what should be done to serve the public and protect everyone’s rights.
I agree brother
He should know!
Agreed, no one can know everything I commend the officers for doing their research before taking action.
They're supposed to already know the laws. Pretty obvious they don't, but they get to detain and arrest people anyway.
@@valentinius62 this is a basic law so they should know.
Wow, officer's who took the time to analyse the situation...and came to the proper determination! Good job Jeff showcasing GOOD police work!
But only after Jeff pressed the point. I give them an F because the first officer tried to trespass Jeff and get his ID before even asking any real questions
No he told him he was trespassing. He doesn’t have authority to do this. He also mutes his mic. He’s a tyrant.
@@falseprophet1024 I'm not happy with the first one, but that's how most of them work. on the regular. They assume you're guilty of something first. Then they fish for evidence to prove it. He's the one I'd give the C+. At the very least he did the team work with the other officer to make the right call. And again, they did not issue a trespass nor arrest Jeff. They also didn't escalate the situation by being aggressive and in his face. So, compared to many of these videos, he did...meh, ok.
IT’s people like Jeff who should be considered as a celebrity or hero.
Congressional medal for defending civil rights: laying his life on the line on a daily basis (never know which insane pig will shoot); bullied and arrested by Stazi and citizens, too; educating citizens and government every day.
He absolutely is my hero
It’s actually people like him that you should say “thank you for your service” to not the military. The military serve the elite. Civil rights activists serve the civilians and protect their rights from been infringed upon
Every police officer should watch this interaction.
The police did a thorough investigation and educated the poll workers,Jeff stood his ground and no rights were violated.
Great job,Jeff.
Eventually it turned into "no one can be within 150 feet regardless of what they are doing". BRILLIANT
That old man really doesn't understand the definition of soliciting, does he? Oh, neither does that supervisor lady. 🤣😂 And as I watch further, none of them do. 😂😂😂
They only see a homeless guy and assume. Every. Damn. Time.
Yes a nice long video!!!!! You are the #1 civil rights investigator Jeff!!!
*Muting his microphone should be Tampering with a government record. Because that is exactly what body cam video/audio is, a government record. That is what allows them to be subject to open RECORDS request.*
Once again Jeff is the corner stone of this new wave of auditors and he never takes credit for that.
What a humble guy he is.
We love you Jeff ❤
How do you define “cornerstone?”
The sign is awesome. Freedom of speech, religion, and assembly.
In the UK we have Danny Shine (socialexperimentalist) who held a sign saying ‘Everything is OK’ and it caused the same sort problems as Jeff’s does😄
That sign is probably one of the most effective tools I’ve ever seen.
Every blue moon when "election officials" are called to service, I'm surprised they can fit their heads through the doorway.
Muting of the microphone should be an automatic dismissal.
99.9% of cops are oath violators.
Destruction of evidence?
Agreed
I was going to say, what about if they were recording when emergency family call comes in, but it can just be redacted by police before making available as public record.
I guess there really is no valid reason to ever mute the mic 🤷♂️
true... what was he hiding?!
Great officers. Thanks for doing your job by the book! I wish both of of these young men success.
I'm a veteran. I lived homeless in Pittsburgh for about a year at one point. How anyone could take that sign as a negative is beyond me. Bless YOU for doing what you do. If you ever come to Ithaca NY I'll stand with you.

Should be a violation to mute a body cam mic or turn off the camera. No transparency if they pick and choose what gets documented
It's not a violation. It's a crime called tampering with evidence
Good on Corporal Salmon for getting everything right here. Even down to the discussion of other scenarios.
And being able to keep the tension down.
Yes, he did a great job as a cop, a mentor and supervisor. I hope he makes an excellent police chief one day.
I can appreciate an honest dialogue between the Police on the statues. Finally Police making an educated decision on what to do. Good job Jeff!
"theres a whole grey area im not willing to cross" best thing I've ever heard a cop say.
A remarkable interaction, love the elections response and the police response. Very cool, chill, followed the natural progression of mitigation and investigation. Kudos to all parties involved. Great Video!!!!
You da man, Jeff. Stay healthy so you can be doing this at 98 years old.
That cop analyzing the statute isn't a rocket scientist, but he's probably going to get through his career without big embarrassments or lawsuits.
What scares me is it he might need to still do this at 98.
You don't get assigned to street patrol because you're a brilliant detective...

Jeff Gray ~ the OG of auditing!!! luv your work Jeff, thank you patriot!!!
Thank you for what you do and allowing us to ride along with you 😊
Thank you Jeff, for your service. A true American.
WoW the corporal was decent and saved the first guy! Good to see someone with stripes to have some knowledge for once

@11:03 - One of the election people also lied about Jeff saying he was motioning and waving for people to donate.

@Brian, RUclips Free Speech Auditor It's recording whatever you want from a public place. It's not just about protecting rights, exercising your rights and about testing the law.
Jeff you are the master at this
You always keep your cool and handle the business at hand. Thank you for sharing
It’s wonderful to hear that your granddaughter’s school is performing a special event for the veterans! 💕🇺🇸💕

Once again, fine work sir. I still can’t believe how long it takes people to figure out you are NOT soliciting. I also love how they always try to come up with a story about you taking money from people. “One of my workers saw him walk up to somebody and ask for money”. LIES! Thank you for educating!
Which is not illegal as the courts have ruled panhandling is covered by the first.

Well, renters have rights. They "own" the property as long as they pay the rent on the lease. It applies to those who rent apartments as well as store fronts in malls.
