The WP SW1 is pretty awesome! Also that paint scheme has never been made in O scale as well! So I have really high hopes for that model!

Last comment on this. I learned from a friend that there is a 25% price hike on this catalog for tariffs on china products. I haven't confirmed if that was the case for any previous catalogs.
Thats on top of the yearly inflation price hike.
This would explain why the 2 pages of box cars are $20 different. One made in china, the others stateside.
He also told me Lionel cant pull out of china to lower the prices because they would lose the molds as per some contract.
Unless that tarriff is dropped, we will continue to see higher prices.
Plus its not like they are selling a million units, so the manufacturer markup is insane. If you were to pay at cost where Lionel was to break even. Those Y6B's would be probably around half of msrp. The hobby shop makes a cut, the shipping company, the factory and lionel.
This just highlights how this country as a whole is inserting foot into mouth on manufacturing. Sad to see

VMV is a wholey owned subsidiary of NRE (national railway equipment) which is one of the nation's largest curator of leased rail equipment.
The Paducah shops were built by the Illinois Railroad and is located in Paducah Kentucky.
they still service locomotives for todays class 1's through a connection track on the Paducha and Louisville railroad.
The VMV section of the company is no longer and has since closed its doors. They had a variety collection of old diesel power from many of the railroads in America at the time. Ex-everything basically.
NRE still continues onto this day And has several locations across the US including one in silvis IL which is currently rebuilding the Union Pacific Challenger and DD40ax locomotives.
There's actually a lot of leasing companies in railroading and many of them are obscure or may not even operate locomotives and just have car fleets. Seeing lionel come out with something like this is kind of cool as it's a nod to those businesses that need railcars switched out but can't pay for a class 1 or nearby class 2 to do it.
Hopefully we will see more leasing companies represented soon, like LTEX, which owns one of the largest locomotive graveyards in the world. Hundreds upon hundreds of stored retired engines for parts inventory at 2 yards in Ohio and upstate New York

I wound up pre ordering a Y6B, the GG1 in "old rivets" and the six 21" Pennsylvania passenger cars. I wound not be surprised if the 700E was the next VL engine.

Very nice order. I think everyone is expecting the VL Hudson along with a new VL offering for next catalog a 125th anniversay “double vision” scenario. I’m a little scared for the next catalog lol. I really am trying to slow spending on motive power and rolling stock for a while if I can. But in this hobby, I always recommend, if you want that item, get it while you can bc it could be years before you see it again.

I wonder if this is going to become precedent for Lionel?
Maybe the next catalog is going to be similar to this in terms of one model, but literally every paint scheme imaginable almost.
I'm thinking like one of their classics like a steamer, visionlone 700e for example. Like 10 varieties of that.
This catalog was definitely not for me. I'm not a fan of electric locomotives. I'm not a fan of all the steam offerings that they have. There was no Rio Grande locomotives offered.
We will see but I don't think doubling down one 1 model is bad, just different.

    • @GoldStandardTrains
      @GoldStandardTrains  4 месяца назад +1

If we look to what they have been doing with re-releases on the VL engines, offering them with a bunch of options seems to be the way to go. This one seemed overblown bc each page had 1 maybe 2 engines on it. The VL BB’s had a few engines per page, same as the triplex. I like a lot of variety for the higher end. For example, when they do the Niagara again, I’m sure there will be a pacemaker, grey one again, and maybe something not NYC road. Which I like the idea of. In comparison, the last time Lionel did things like the ac-9 and Allegheny, the offering was very limited. Plus then you also get custom runs from suppliers which adds even more variety.

@@GoldStandardTrains good point. This is definitely a catalog that I'll mostly pass on. I don't even know if I should pre-order the two Rio Grande Hoppers that I want and that's about it. The rest of the stuff in the catalog I will probably be able to find from Mr. Muffins after the catalog comes out. I'm thinking I'll just save my money. Look elsewhere for deals.
