It is incredible to watch my 16 year old granddaughter have the poise and confidence to stand in front of 140+ seasoned professionals and belt this out. #proudgrandfather
As a huge fan of cobain, I normally am not a fan of anyone doing renditions of any his songs!!!! Mainly because they always fail greatly in comparison!!!! I feel like his songs usually should just be left alone!!!! And not because I want it to be this way!!! I always listen when I see a cover, hoping to get surprised! But in the end I always come away disappointed.. Renditions of his songs are just not flattering to the him the artist, In my opinion, mainly because they never seem to add anything to it!!!! All of that said, That is not the case here!!!! Ur granddaughter was magnificent, and u should be very very proud!!! She has a mystique about her!!! Her voice is literally enchanting, which makes her a perfect combo for this song!!! I also would have thought that annunciating all the words perfectly, would have taken away from the song, but again, not here!!!! Because her voice itself leaves you sort of spell bound, understanding the words is just an added plus!!! I found myself wanting to know the words for the first time!!!! She has honestly done something amazing here!!!! At least in my eyes!!! When nirvana was inducted to the rockin roll hall of fame, they had Joan Jett (a legend) get up with the surviving members of nirvana and sing this exact song!!!! They would have been much better off getting your grand daughter!!!! Her rendition blows the doors off of Jett's attempt!!! I think that's all the praise one needs to here!!!!
chad wiggins Wow... Thank you Chad for your candid review. I too feel the same way about classic songs and I am usually disappointed by re-makes. While I am obviously biased about McKenna's performance, watching her grow and develop as an artist has been nothing short of amazing.
When placed into an orchestra you realize that Nirvana and Kurt were musical masters. SLTS fits gorgeously into to orchestra platform. It just works. You know where else Nirvana works..... Folk music.
Nirvana works with everything because Kurt worked hard to create simple melodies. He never wanted anything complicated, he wanted to write music like The Beatles
I have always considered this one of the greatest songs ever written. Not because of the lyrics but in spite of them. Not because of it's musical beauty but in spite of musical beauty itself. It has always felt real. Resonating. Not some artists attempt to capture a period but rather a period in time capturing an artist. I suppose when one experiences great suffering one can express it better than others. The orchestre version lets us realize that this is classic. Thank you Kurt Cobain!
You know the song is good when it sounds good with all sorts of instruments. It shows that grunge rock is incredibly versatile when done right. Kurt Cobain was a genius and nothing less to have created this
No matter how many times I hear her sing, it affects me in a wonderful way. Her beautiful voice combined with great arrangements and musicians. She is very special!
This song can be played in any type of music genre and it’s still sounds great that tells you how good the sound is behind smells like teen spirit, and this is a wonderful piece
Incredible. Timeless. I hope young people watch this incredible young lady. Oh yeah, she's now an American Idol contestant with an incredible story and legacy.
thizzface this is absolutely amazing, but Cobain wasn't even proud of becoming a popular, let alone his songs becoming hits, so i doubt him being proud of this song....
imo, he will tolerates this one, I guess coz he was really into fine arts. and he just don't like pop culture, and how the mainstream ruins his idealism, and betraying himself by becoming the object of fame, that leads to glamour life and high consumption of things.
The girl singing is amazing. I bet she was a baby when Nirvana came out with Teen Spirit. Beautiful rendition. I've been listening to popular songs played by orchestras all morning.
The sound is amazing with all its layers, but what really makes it outstanding to me is the skilled video work. I love seeing, as well as hearing, all the parts of the music.
For those saying. Kurt actually liked Smells Like Teen Spirit, what he didn't like is people just wanting that song in his concerts, that's why he was alway bored while playing it.
The most beautiful song I have heard in 23 years it's making me cry in a good way I'm going through withdrawal it's perfect! Kurt would have loved it! Thank you
Agreed on that!! And what are the words that they're singing on that choral climax? I love that part, but I just can't quite make out what they're saying.
Just love this. There was always something about this song/music that defies dissection, this arrangement and performance by the singer (such a talent), singers and orchestra adds another element to the resonance of this soul deep lament. Thank you
A lot of the songs I grew up listening to, whenever they’re made into orchestral versions, everyone’s saying they can be James Bond theme songs. I’m not disagreeing, I highly agree.

Congrats. She did great. I'd love to hear the back story on this and how it all came together. The making of... It would be a fascinating watch/hear.
My sincerest congratulations! She has a voice like an angel and she has a truly angelic, delicate beauty. You have something to be proud of!
She is incredibly talented! NYC fans!!!
This is how to introduce classical instruments to modern kids, as this is very good.
Mark S well first you have to explain Grunge... and Cobain and what that meant to us old folks
Haha Well boy you still have to go through another 2 generatios to get to modern pop
Most modern kids don't listen to Nirvana anymore
Well first of all grunge is dead. We have to bring it back to life again
@@omideex Your job is to be the God of the new world, not bring stuff back to life!
Love her voice. So nice to hear a lower range voice. Sounds awesome.
Lol, I actually think they should have had a gal at the higher registers.
OnePieceWonPeace nah

Matthew Alford That’s true
Nirvana works with everything because Kurt worked hard to create simple melodies. He never wanted anything complicated, he wanted to write music like The Beatles
Thats the sign of an inherently gifted songwriter. It works on any platform.
pfff even nirvana played and joked on the fact song is a sped up down tuned version of Bostons 'what a feeling'
@@OriginalCandy Sounds more like Boston's "Peace of Mind" to me. At least similar chords.

The lyrics are really good though
Dude!
"one's that experience great suffering can express it better than other's."
Damn well said!
I EASILY AGREE WITH THAT SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT IS AMAZING!!!
Thanks Kurt
Literal chills. Didn't know this song would work so well with this arrangment
When you hear covers like this, you can really hear the genius of this song
Exactly!
You wouldn’t be able to do this with most rap “music”
@@John-ye2pm no you definitely can't
@@John-ye2pmok boomer
This could so be a James Bond opening song....
Yes!!
oh yes !
Matthew Alford No
Fuck james bond.
No It wont fit...
I just imagine a dark stage with this opening, then Kurt, Krist, and Dave going hard!!
I see it, how fuck that's briliant
You know the song is good when it sounds good with all sorts of instruments. It shows that grunge rock is incredibly versatile when done right. Kurt Cobain was a genius and nothing less to have created this
1:35 chills! ... 2:56 Fell in love with the music
So touching...Kurt would be so proud...his music lives still in so many ways in the hearts of millions of his fans worldwide
Such a beautiful rendition of this song. A true masterpiece.
No matter how many times I hear her sing, it affects me in a wonderful way. Her beautiful voice combined with great arrangements and musicians. She is very special!
Now I know it's "hello, hello, how low". Always thought it was just a funny accented "hello" at the end.
If there was an entire concert of this music I would buy it.
Thank you for posting.
They have an album 😉
@@bealzy but not on cd
how disappointing !!!
This video is severely underrated. Thumbs up.
her voice & interpretation are absolutely amazing ...
What a brilliant arrangement.

How does this not have more views? It's awesome
that voice is so damn clear. very crisp. she's great.
The pizzicato in this totally reminds me of the Halo 2 soundtrack. That's a good thing! And McKenna's voice is lovely. Very much enjoyed!
WOWOWOWOW!!! "And all I know are dirty words".... The ONLY cover version I have ever heard that get the lyrics RIGHT!
beautiful epic sound. body full of goosebumps. Cobain would be proud of his crafts evolution
+thizzface he would definitely be proud of this. what an amazing cover.

Beautiful interpretation of this Nirvana classic. The symphonic gave more depth to the melody.
The girl singing is amazing. I bet she was a baby when Nirvana came out with Teen Spirit.
Beautiful rendition. I've been listening to popular songs played by orchestras all morning.
She was born about 9 years later 😂
Um, this was pretty amazing. And probably the first time I understood the lyrics lol
Jennifer Thomas Thanks you so much. That means a lot coming from such a talented musician!
how can you not hear the lyrics from actual Kurt11
+hi friend hard to hear what someone's saying when their mouth is full of lead
kurt didnt commit suicide
she did get some of the lyrics wrong though, or at least they aren't what they were in the original.
To hear a song from my teenage years done so beautifully makes my heart skip a beat.. Should definitely do more Nirvana tunes!!!
I can listen different versions of this song all day.
When the chorus kicked in I got instant chills. Amazing
Smells like teen spirit is such a beautiful piece that it actually sounds amazing in diffrent styles. Love this orchestra.
The lead singer is awesome but the choir & the entire band is amazing! This whole thing is golden!!!!!!
Ohh oh oh my!! Why is this not more popular!! You guys are absolutely mind blowing!

Potato Husband I know I thought she was like 22... I have not idea where I got that from
One of few excellent covers that are just as emotionally done as the original, perfect.
Somewhere, Kurt Cobain is smiling!
Doubt it, considering he blew his face off

Chris Gifford what if he didn’t ?
He actual despised this song, so doubtful

This is unbelievable, Cobain's song-writing shining through
Beautiful voice. Keep up the fantastic singing.
the part right after the second chorus is the best thing i've ever heard
Agreed on that!! And what are the words that they're singing on that choral climax? I love that part, but I just can't quite make out what they're saying.
