How long do you have to be an authorized user. Doesn't count against you if you/they decide to take you off of the account ?

One thing that has always confused me is when people say “pay it off it full,” do they mean pay off the monthly statement amount (so the total money spent for your monthly period) or do you mean pay off all of the balance (so the statement + any spendings that occurred after the statement end date)?
Maybe it depends on the bank, because with Navy Federal, in order to share the credit score benefits on someone else's credit card, you have to be added to their credit card as a "joint-owner". An authorized user is authorized to use the credit card, but not able to receive the credit score benefit from using the credit card. That was clarified with me by the bank. But, this may be just the policy of Navy Federal. I don't know.
1 of the many cards out there that's easier to add authorized user to -> AMEX cards. Navy Federal is very hard.
I had Navy Federal and the 500 dollar overdraft being paid in full each month increased my credit score and stayed at 812.

what about those offers you get from creditors stating they will let you pay off your balance @ 50% leas than thw actual amount. I heard another youtuber say something about they can send tou another boll for the remaining balance in another year or tax aeason does anyone know if this is true or not?
Always negotiate to have collections removed, they hurt your score badly. Request validation but do not agree to self validate via telephone.
Just added my 18 y/o son as an authorized user. Apparently you need some type of credit to qualify for better interest rates for student loans & he didn't really have any. Hopefully his score will jump like Jordan really quickly, so he can get a reasonable interest rate for his loan.

+greenbrown3 There is no reason to take out a student loan either. I'll assume you were responsible and say that you sent him to a junior college first for his first 2 years so that it's cheaper and then sent him to a 4 year university In state. if he can't afford the tuition, then he should be taking the semester off and absolutely busting his ass to make enough money to pay his tuition. Believe it or not, it's possible to graduate without debt (granted if you arent going for a law or medical degree)

The route WE selected for OUR child is what WE decided we wanted for him. None at all. In fact, your credit will likely drop when you pay off your student loan. When you close accounts (Paying off loans) it lowers the average age of your credit, which means your credit history age becomes younger. A younger credit history = low credit score. It's really fucked up, but it's true. Happened to me and my siblings.

what if you cant pay it off every month
Drinah Hack create a small bill then. Like Tiff said, Netflix. Or gas. Or a SMALL medical instance copay. Pay the full balance every month faithfully, and you should see your score jump, even if you have other bills.

I have to say I was kind a Skeptical ( Sorry if spelled wrong ) but it took 3 month's to pay off a 2600. CC but I noticed my score just about 24 point's I believe. So I'M trying to pay off a couple more. Thanks for your advice it helped a lot. I have a question for you should I keep the card's or get rid of them except for 1 or 2 I have 5 in all. DO NOT get rid of your cards. You should especially not get rid of your oldest ones. Having more credit lines is a good thing, and it is positively affecting your credit so long as you are keeping those credit lines in good standing. (eg: keeping your utilization at 30% or lower, never missing a payment EVER) Note: I always keep my utl below 10%, and, like she said, that does the most good. If you get rid of some of your credit lines you may adversely affect your average age of accounts (AAoA), and you WILL lower the amount of credit that you have being reported as available to you. These are two things that are factored into how your credit score is calculated. If you feel like these cards are burdens because you may forget to pay them off, get them in good standing if they aren't already, and leave them alone. Only use them once every few months so the credit card company doesn't cancel them. Just remember to pay them off immediately. You could do that, or you could set up a reoccurring payment on your credit cards. (Neflix? Spotify?)
Unless you have cards that have annual fees that you don't consider to be worth it, (: They rarely are worth it.) you shouldn't cancel your cards.
Never close a good acct. You destroy your length of credit history which is a fifth percentage of your credit score

Why is my credit score low if I pay my bills on time?
Theres an algorithm that accounts for several factors not just low balance utilization. They also compute your length of credit history, payment history, mix of types of credit, utilization and highest amount of credit extended.

Does adding someone with lower credit score affect your score???
Sherry Argus no, you're adding them to Your profile , not being added to theirs. I would strongly suggest not allowing them to have a card so they can't charge it. But nothing going on with their credit will impact you .

Don't inherit the bad behavior? I'm going to have to say this one is false. I know for a fact. I was an authorized user and was told to have the person lower their utilization rate because it was affecting me when applying for a home loan. Other than that they always paid on time. The other ones sound pretty legit!
Keywords "someone who's done right by their credit" If their utilization is high they haven't done right so you shouldn't be added to their account.

Wrong you should be using your entire balance and pay it completely off before the statement closing date that way they reported to the credit agency and you have no balance. After a while they will increase your limit because they are seeing that you are reaching Max most of the time but to pay it off in full
