  • My 1994 20 Hp Mariner 2 stroke outboard motor on 3 Meter Avon Rib doing 30 mph in 30 knots of wind! It has a 10.5 inch 13 inch pitch prop! Good take off and not a bad top speed! Sitting a little too far back but I was comfy!:)

Hello. I just bought the engine last summer, but didn't get the boat ready for it yet. I will be installing it on Vator 14 after few repairs on the boat. It is Finnish made heavy but very steady boat. Boat used to have 20hp Johnson, so I thought that the 20hp Mariner will move it well too. :)

I have a 3.10 meter rip with no keel just a flat bottom would you recommend a 15hp engine ?2 stroke or 4? , have a 4hp but too slow for me

ollie b thanks for the reply pal its flat bottom and soft and its recommended 10 HP and I am gonna go for 2 stroke no matter what and I usually have me and a fishing Buddy with me and we use a 4hp right now and just way too slow really and I have feeling that 15hp would not be too dangerous and for when I get a proper boat in 2-3 years the 15hp will do lovely , think 15hp 2 stroke be too much ? Also plan in the summer to use it to pull people on wake boards if possible

ollie b thenka for the advise pal and I never go out alone :) so why I was looking for bigger engine , also I'll never go out without a kill cord :) , might just go for the bigger engine as there easier to get really and cheaper as its hard to get good 10hp 2 strokes there all 4s , we usually have with a not of gear so I am sure 15 would be perfect :) plus 2 anchors too haha as we always double anchor for float fishing for pike , I am from Ireland btw

ollie b haha you would 😜 , crazy fast then haha and I will buddy should be getting it for winter in 2-3 months just being doing best research I can and from what I see and you are saying 15hp 2 stroke be perfect, I'd like to get a short shaft but if not long shaft will have to do , seen a few nice ones already but don't have money yet haha engines are very dear in Ireland 750-1500euros for 15hp

ollie b yeah that's annoying thing about Ireland very dear engine as there not huge amount imported but 10-15hp are same price haha and yeah I have a 4hp long shaft and its annoying enough like u said, need to get to deeper water ,I have found a 15hp short shaft Johnson 2 stroke which is perfect but comes with 4.1m inflatable and trailer all for 900 which is still cheaper then the engines alone haha so might buy it , not sure if I'll use boat or not haha I like my 3.1meter

not bad but if you try it with a 30 hp 2 stroke.
    It takes over 37 mph / h
