- The Alaska Aviation Museum recently added a Grumman Goose to its flying collection. This aircraft is the second Grumman Goose currently flying at the Lake Hood Seaplane Base near Anchorage, Alaska. Streamtime Live was able to capture live video of the two seaplanes taking off and doing formation flybys over the lake.
Per Wikipedia ( en.wikipedia.o... ), a total of 345 Grumman Goose aircraft were manufactured, and an estimated 30 are still in airworthy condition. Two of them are now based at Lake Hood.

Don't you just love seaplanes? Classic ones like these two are icing on the cake. A beautiful location to showcase them too.
Yes! There’s something romantic about it all.
The lake, the trees, the mountains. Gorgeous. So picturesque. Is that snow left on mountains? Somehow difficult to believe that such an idyllic place exists. ;)
The closest I have ever been to Alaska is the StreamTime Live Lake Hood web cam, but I agree that there are some beautiful views in Alaska, even if only from the webcam.
Oh, what a beauty! She sounds sweet and I love that paint job!
Thanks for the incredible video!
That was awesome! Thanks for sharing this with us.
You are more than welcome. We enjoyed creating it, and, of course, we're happy to share it.
Gotta love a classic Grumman. 😁
Beautiful aircraft ❤
Liking both of their paint schemes. 🤙
Great camera work. Nice stabilised , zoomed well .
The footage for the video was taken by STL moderator "Stone". I am also an STL moderator, and edited the RUclips video from his footage.
I happened to be watching the channel live the day the 2 Geese flew together. There are also several Grumman Widgeon aircraft at Lake Hood.
Is there anything better than a Grumman amphib?? Heck, yeah, TWO Grumman amphibs!! lol
I got to ride in right seat when they were used to fly in and out to Catalina Island in the 80's.
Very cool. My dad also was able to do the same thing, also to Catalina. I am guessing for him it was in the 1970s. I never have flown in a Goose, but I do remember watching them taxi into and out of the water at Catalina when I was there on vacation as a kid. Yikes, the thought of all that saltwater on the aircraft kind of makes me cringe.
Grew up on Catalina 1962-81. As a high school kid I worked summers and weekends for Catalina Airlines. Got to fly for free back and forth. What a blast.
I got to fly on one from Long Beach to Catalina back in '73 when I was a teenager. Such an awesome memory!
I flew on Grumman Geese and Mallards on Chalk’s airline between Miami and Bimini and many times between St. Thomas and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands on Antilles Airboats. Always an amazing experience hearing and seeing the water splash up past the windows on landing.
This reminds me of the scene in Now, Voyager where Bette Davis and Paul Henreid must part. She alone flies off from Brazil (?) in a seaplane.
@@chrishintz1077I think the plane in the movie is supposed to be taking off from Rio de Janeiro headed for Buenos Aires. I know the movie was filmed in the US and only used stock footage from Brazil.
Not sure where the plane was photographed taking off from in real life, but do know it's a Sikorsky S-42A
@@2ndfloorsongs thank you so much for this info!
@@2ndfloorsongs we’ll always have Rio. ;).
Best hidden line in Ted Lasso, “Talk to me geese”
Lovely.
Back in the '60s, they were called "gooses"
Can't hear radio . Turn it up please
what's on the inboard pylons on one of them? They look and sound great. flew a nice McKinnon widgeon a while, But the little time I flew a Goose, it was Cadillacky.
60 gal. aux fuel tanks. They are removable. Got my multi engine seaplane rating in 703, the blue one in 2021.
WRONG..!! They are never ever called geese.!! They are gooses or a goose, never geese….!! and I can say this, I own 3 gooses…
Isn't geese a plural noun of a goose?
"Gooses" is the way I always heard it.
It's "Gooses" because it's a proper name. Geese are birds. Multiple Grumman G-21A aircraft are Gooses just like they are "Grummans"
And "Hi!" Sam!
@@davemarion7652 hi Dave.! Hope your doing well….I’m Still working on that “project” down south we were talking about..I’ll let you know when I make some progress.
Hey Pilots, can you explain why soo many of the Male ATC’s sound like it’s the same guy talking. 🤣
Lol. Thanks. ;).
