Italian Autoreloader works like this: The more shells you have loaded, the faster the reload is. So basically you play it as a single shot tank, until you want to finish someone for example. These are some gimmicks, in the Italian heavy, you can get a reload bonus when you shoot while reloading (usually it will reset the whole reload countdown). Also, there is a reverse autoreloader in the form of the IS-3A. It gets faster reload, when it has fewer shells loaded. I had some points of contact with the Kitakami in the past (supertest and rank 1 reward for first season of ranked or something), therefore I don't want to see this ship in a good condition. I'd prefer it to be a giant floating citadel, that even an Erie can defeat in a 1v1.
Mechanically correct but usually the best way to play it is more of a burst, using two shots instead of just one, due to the nature of exposure times are quite low. If they designed it the same way, that way it could work as well.
You do realize Kita has an exposed 30mm citadel deck, a 40mm athwartship and 16mm bow right? It can consistently get citadeled by Italian cruiser SAP and overmatched by large caliber cruiser guns (229mm+) It already is a floating citadel, it’s just a lot of battleships have shells that can’t fuse on its armor or muzzle velocity so high it overpenetrates before it can detonate.
Honestly, I don't really care about how good or bad this ship is, I've been wanting her for over 8 years now and I finally get the chance to play her. The autoreloader thing would be cool. Her getting an unlimited torpedo reload booster (similar to Austin's MBRB) could help too. Make it so that rather than dropping the reload down it just reloads two racks of torps. That way it gives you the ability to launch the full 40 without needing to wait the full 5 minutes, only needing 3 minutes.
that's how the italian mediums work in WOT. Dpm on the first shell, and once they're low enough burst them down with the rest of the clip. Those are fun tanks. they have a low skill floor and high potential in the hands of good players. Would mean you're not SOL when you launch everything and a dd pops out of cover lol.
I think it should be like IS3A wich reloads fast the deeper you go in the mag. Applied to Kita it would mean you would have more constant DPM once you shot all your torps. But it would take a while to get those devastaing 20 torp broadsides. would make it more relevant if it loaded the first few launchers quicker. Example 1L=30 Sec 2L=40 3L=50 4L 60

look like the only real perks of this ship are the exhaust smoke and ability to switch torp types between regular and deep water.. happy to be devoid of any desire to get this ship.
Im guessing there is a market for carrier snipes with this ship’s deepwater torps where your cv (possibly in a div) spots the enemy cv once, and then you flood the sea with 20-40 deepwater ultra long range torps aiming at the cv.
I agree with the reduced reload as you get more launchers, really would reward patient behavior. I hope she gets her tweaks, she seems close to actually being a fun ship
Took me over half of the first impressions video to realize this thing was a cruiser, im glad that its going to have far more "off" games than "on" games and that it seems much of its damage is deepwaters and would need to be fired from a long distance away. As someone who does somewhat main battleships it sucks having more excuses to not get closer but at the same time if you spot this thing in almost any battleship you are going to crush it first salvo, and if its close enough to spot you can still evade those torps just dont sail in a straight line. I can see the worry about having more torp spam in the world but if they arent interested in adjusting/removing subs i see no reason to throw a fit over something like this with so many weaknesses.
you could always just use the torps on 1 side as they load to keep the enemy back thinking about the possible wall of torps, then after the 2nd side has fully loaded you turn around and find someone to frustrate with a wall of torps out of the blue.
My experience is good luck trying that w/ the campfest meta in this junk ship. 12km is serviceable but tough if the red DDs are screening, and the 20km DWTs that only hit BBs and CVs are rarely useful unless manage to sneak up on it. Simply, halfway competent players that know how to be difficult torp targets were everywhere when I used to play.
@@Brom2855 As a very good IJN torp dd player I play them rarely any more because 12 km is not enough for anything. Typically, if you disregard objectives to go to farm torp damage, your team collapses in 5 minutes. If you go to objectives and win over their DDs, then their team collapses, points run out while 300k HP in battleships is fleeing to the border. 20km DWTs can hit ships in straight fleeing up to 13-14km. They'll reach in time. With typical IJN 12km you are hard pressed to hit a battleship that has commenced in turning away at 10km. As you say, good luck finding a non-hydro BB that will come closer than 10km. They are all safers, noone wants to trade HP to win over objective or anything alike.
I mean, even if you wanted a Cruiser torp boat. Yodo is right there, 15km torps with 23k damage, and can fire 16 torps every 100 seconds. Or to put it another way Yodo can launch 48 torps in the same time Kitakami can launch 40.
I think it would be better if it loaded faster the less launchers you had loaded, like the is3a. Like you can either choose to have a quick torp reload but fire less at 1 time, or you save up for a longer time to have all 40 ready at once

I had over 400k coal presnowflake event, and 3 lines I reset and never regrinded, until now. So i was able to get Kitakami today. Only played one match in it with mediocre damage playing it similar to my Asashio. I did note that I was very capable at cap denial as all three BBs fled, and some cruisers ate regular torps. Even smoked and scared a Kleber away with guns. Ultimately end game it was 2v2 with one being a Moskva, which i did stealth torp kill despite being worried about radar. We ended up losing on points as game timed out. Ship has potential but is not OP.
If I remember good , WG plan to make change to game , where all ship start battle with all weapons loaded ! , that would made Kitakami OP , I will still get her , because one salvo in good condition can give insane dmg , have 500k dmg in game is very possible with her .
After watching your reviews, I think I appreciate where the ship is at balance wise. Its not too strong, but can be extremely rewarding when you have the right game much the same as Jaeger or Asashio. It reminds me of an all in secondary build GK: sure, that is not the optimal build, but the "fun factor" of all in secondaries, and the satisfaction of the occasional game where you have an insane game with 7 kills and 1000 secondary hits (exaggeration but still) make it all worth it for some. Kitikami is an all in torpedo boat, where you can really struggle to have game impact, but those occasional games like the one shown here can make all those crappy games worth it.
Italian autoloader mechanics would probably make it a busted ship. The tanks that had this mechanic in WoT were all S-tier for their given battle ratings because it enabled them to go back and forth between having the DPM of any of their contemporaries, and then at the drop of a hat to burst down something given the opportunity - thus generating a ridiculous battle advantage, even if it meant they needed to hide for a bit and reload. If WG took that mechanic for the kitakami it'd probably end up similarly busted, but that all depends on how long it would take to load all your tubes - as well as how the baseline "conservative" torpedo DPM would look compared to a contemporary torpedo DD like yueyang or shima. It's also hard because torpedo ships are doing most of their damage without being spotted, which negates one of the big negatives used to balance the mechanic in WoT (being spotted after firing and being left incredibly vulnerable.)
I think the gimmick should be either you run both sets of torps and have the current reload or in port you can pick to only have one but get a boost to reload. Not much but I think it needs a little help.
WoWS is an arcade game, ultimately. Another possibility is to give Kitakami a reduced radar detection range. Or perhaps chaff-n-smoke that increases the dispersion of shells fired at Kita when she's in smoke and radared

well, thats true.. and i noticed that from long time ago, between wows and wot have similarity in ships or tank characteristic for every nations.. like france for example.. in wot they have autoloader, not so good armor protection, but fast mobility.. and in wows is the same most of the time, ships is fast, not that good armor protection, but they have reload booster consumable to imitate autoloader mechanic which france tanks have.. then soviet, amazing armor, great fire power (sometimes troll, needed guidance from stalins RNG), and slugish mobility for heavy tank, but decent mobility for medium tank.. in wows, soviets ships tend to have the same characteristic with soviet tank in wot..
When I saw Kitakami forst time, I was like: Wow, this ship can be a lot of fun. Then I saw how it reloads the torpedo launchers. And I knew at that time, that WG done it again and made trash out of a nice concept. I think it should reload 4 torpedo launchers at once in one minute, then next 4. It would be much better
The only thing I can't help but feel will happen is that, with everyone saying the ship is not good, a lot of people won't get the ship, and then a couple months after the event (but still way before the Kitakami will be able to come back) is that it will somehow get some extremely powerful unique upgrade dispite not being a TT ship. With the armour the way it is, I don't know how it will be that great, but I still have this feeling at the back of my mind.
Wot has 2 auto loader types .. one is quick last shell other is quick 1st shell … so your Dpm goes down the farther you go into the magazine… so idk which you would choose 😃

No matter how good it is, it is something that only people who are "in the club" can get. If you joined this game in the last 5 years, forget it, you do not have enough currency to even earn the rest in time. Elitest ships that only your enemy can get, but you cannot, is the worst thing about this game. Just devs, friends of devs, and contributors (friends of devs), and 4 people who actually bought it, get this. And they can use it against everyone else. Elitest ships are way worse than normal pay-to-win. The game is a joke. If I see this ship on the enemy team, i'll leave the battle, immediately without even thinking about it.
I say Defense Is a cruiser version of the Thunderer. The HE is disgusting and can start fires as fast as Thunderer's and you can use AP when you really need it and not lose value out of it. thats how I see Defense. its not OP by any means. Hell, Its about as close to firestarting like the Zao.

What if it had like a spanish F button giving whatever tubes you had loaded early game doubled but then increase the reload by 50% for the next minute or so. Would give you the option for an early game play, or a devasting mid game play.
Since it has engine boost and exaust smoke generator it might be interesting to see if u can yolo alone ships especially bbs with your very good conceal and pop your smoke and run down with asasho torps and get dev strikes on bbs. just my opinion. tnx.
If they removed the shitty 2 torp launcher loads only limit then this would of been a fun ship but its meh. Im going to be pissed if they change this after they stop selling it.
The spread past 50% on both types of torps is total crap. Asashio has the same issue, at max range you are lucky to hit one out of four the gaps are so wide anything can avoid them.
How the mighty Kitakami has fallen. Probably for the best since everyone from back in the day really hated to deal with this even more than cvs, subs or whatever thing you hate from the game. For all of us mortals we’ll wait 2 years lol.

Take out travel time, that's *only* 3 full torp salvos from each side, at best. I remember high tier meta's campfest. 12km is just barely enough range w/ the screening DDs and radar CRs. 20km DWT that only hits BB or CV? Thanks but I doubt a kitakami on flank is a danger more than ~10% of the time w/ torp dodging. Good luck getting wary players in that. Full torp tube reload down to 2.5 min, base, before modifiers. Or add TRB. Kitakami is meant to be a torp master, not a long-reload stalker.
Imo Jinan is way better. Can you please make a video with a Jinan, Brisbane, and Austin division please ... Jinan and smoke + torpedoes, Brisbane radar, Austin rate of fire.
Every free to play game has pay to win mechanics. Why would WOWS be any different? Anytime i see defense players i ask 'how the pay to win Defense doing for you?'

The spread past 50% on both types of torps is total crap. Asashio has the same issue, at max range you are lucky to hit one out of four the gaps are so wide anything can avoid them.

Kitikami is an interesting ship...but it's not worth a fraction of the resources necessary to acquire it.
This ship is flat-out too insulting to care about. 5 min to reload all the torps in a match that, at best, goes 20 minutes? Take out travel time, that's *only* 3 full torp salvos from each side, at best.
I remember high tier meta's campfest. 12km is just barely enough range w/ the screening DDs and radar CRs. 20km DWT that only hits BB or CV? Thanks but I doubt a kitakami on flank is a danger more than ~10% of the time w/ torp dodging. Good luck getting wary players in that.
Full torp tube reload down to 2.5 min, base, before modifiers. Or add TRB. Kitakami is meant to be a torp master, not a long-reload stalker.
