The 55 and 88 Series are exit device crossbars with a classic design. The 55 and 88 Series have the same functionality with different dimensions and design elements; the 55 Series is a narrow stile device and the 88 Series is a wide stile device. The 55 Series is commonly used in retro-inspired architecture and historical buildings. The 88 Series is a standard device for applications where a crossbar is preferred. Both series are ANSI/BHMA A156.3, 2008 Grade 1 certified and UL rated.

I have one at my school that wont retract the latch fully, do you have a video for that?
This would have been a very helpful video but its playing at warp 8 and your hands get in the way. But I get the gist. Plus you are the only person to have this type handle. . Found out what I needed to know. Thank you!
All the doors in the school I work at has 'em. I think there are probably 13 doors that I regularly deal with, and a handful more that I don't see regularly.
People don't understand these VD88 bars. The real springs that assist in latching are in the OTHER end and if you are missing your 5/16-18 set screws x 2 on the underside of the bar or if they are not tight you will never have correct action.
You are THE MAN! I had a handful of Von Duprin 88s that wouldn't latch at the school I work at, and I tried virtually everything to get 'em to do so. I figured the problem was in the end of the panic bar opposite the latch, but it never occurred to me that that sleeve on the end supplied compression to the inside of the bar (duh!). No wonder most of them have split at their ends after so many years of use! At any rate, a 5/32" Allen key was just the ticket! I even found a couple of places online that sell 5/16'-18 set screws by the pack at very reasonable prices. I'm sure my local hardware store would carry them as well, for literally cents each.
Now I can look into replacing the split bars with some cheap brass bar stock or heavy copper or steel tubing! Thanks again, 600miles. I guess it's true - not all heroes wear capes! Unless, maybe you do...
