    Clyde would kill in todays NBA he is so underrated

  • @badpdx
    @badpdx 13 лет назад +14

    @thebulletwithoutagun: In the five years leading up to the 1992 Finals, Drexler averaged just under 29 ppg on 51.4% shooting along with 7.5 rebounds, 6.25 assists and 2.75 steals in eight games against MJ and the Bulls. All of those numbers exceeded his averages against the rest of the NBA during those years. The teams split the game, 4-4.
    Jordan was better, obviously (see the 1992 NBA Finals) but people act like MJ always dominated Clyde, and that wasn't true.

    Funny always have Scottie Pippen and interviews popping shit about how the Bulls used to handle Clyde the Glide and handle the Trailblazers but he don't talk about games like this. Games like this for Clyde the Glide have 42 points in like a decision like nine rebounds and like three four steals while he Scottie Pippen couldn't even get 10 points. When the second leading scorer of the Chicago Bulls team was Charles Oakley with 10 points. While Scottie Pippen's opposition that he played against Jerome Kersey had 18 points. Things to make you say hmmmm🤔

So Clyde was just being the Glide, a guy who looked up the doctor J and try to model himself behind dr. J. well Air Jordan was also another guy that looked up the doctor J was just trying to be dr. Obviously, the blazers were much more talented individually than the Bulls and they were probably the most feared team in the NBA from 1990 to 1992. And let me just add that Drexler is the real second best shooting guard in the history of basketball !

    • @JohnLick96
      @JohnLick96 8 лет назад +1

      Clyde has a total of 15 seasons where he's made the playoffs 2963 points in the playoffs, Kobe Bryant has about 5460 points total and he hasn't played since 2012 where he scored 42 while getting eliminated by KD and Russ. As far as putting the ball in the basket, Kobe is much better and he is also a better defender by whether you acknowledge it or not. KB has 9 All defensive first team awards. Clyde's career high is 50 points lol. Kobe had ten 50 point games in 2006/2007 and four 50 point games in a row. Kobe would eat Clyde alive in a one-on-one if they were in their primes and Kobe is a better passer than Clyde was. Fundamentally, Drexler definitely doesn't beat him out. Drexler probably has the edge in shooting percentages but the low quality shots Kobe has hit cannot be measured on paper. Drexler has about two years where he has about 100+ points over 2000 total and he averaged 27.3 or something at his best. Kobe Bryant averaged 27.9 ppg in 2012 when he was about 32 or 33 years old. You can't convince that this dude who barley won a ring is better than the Mamba.

    If Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins, David Thompson, Benard King, George Gervin, or even Julius Erving played in today's NBA game, they all would probably averaged around 40 points per game. Notice during on this video how Michael Jordan was double-teamed and in some cases triple-teamed. Two-handed checking was allowed on defense during that era. So that means Jordan had to work extremely hard to get into the lane to score or get his shot off over defenders. Jordan had an extremely explosive first step off the dribble. He was very creative with the basketball. If Jordan played in today's NBA game, he would averaged around 50 points per game. He was scary 😨 😳 good

    @hangtime23ful: I wouldn't say Clyde was a better all-around player, but I would say he was probably a better "team" player in that he got his teammates more involved and was slightly better at things like rebounding and creating easy opportunities for teammates. However, MJ so much better as a pure scorer and individual defender that he was clearly superior overall.
    So Clyde may have played a team game, but MJ helped his team win. And as he said "There's no I in team but there is in win."

    @thebulletwithoutagun: I never said there was a debate. MJ is clearly better. All I'm saying is that in his prime Drexler held his own against MJ better than anyone else and better than most people think. I don't know why you have a problem with that, but clearly you feel the need to defend MJ even when he isn't being attacked, which leads me to believe you have inferiority issues.

    Look at Jordan's size in college, 6'5" 187. He was much smaller and quicker, plus a great shooter. Clyde was a huge guard, with freakish hand strength, ran like a deer & played a small forward roll on the glass. They are more different than alike.

    I hope the fans in the Stadium knew what they were seeing. This was like watching Barishnikov and Nureyev on the same stage, or Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the same band. It's one incredible play after another by both guys.
    A couple of thoughts: Drexler's steal at 5:35 is unreal and his dunk at 2:37 is sick. But his three pointer at the end of the third was the most important play of the game, and clutch.

      4th, if you don't care about the HUGE DIFFERENCES in their respective era. Which is the case for 90% of all the "official" ESPN.TNT ranking. If you take into account the era, Drexler is second. He put the same kind of numbers than those guys with WAY WAY BETTER DEFENSE AGAINST HIM every night.
      But yes, if you don't care about the differences in their time and you talk about accomplishments (which is basically what people are looking at), yes I will put Drexler 4th. But, level of play? Second...

      Air Magic No no no no no. 80's and early 90's defense are way shittier than modern day defenses.
      www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_stats.html
      Just look at points allowed and shooting percentage and how it drops.
      Drexler was good offensively yeah but Wade and Kobe put up 30+ ppg seasons with zone defense and not man2man like Drexler did.
      And not just that.. Wade and Kobe are better defenders and ball handlers/playmakers.

    • @TheLionaaa
      @TheLionaaa 9 лет назад +1

      Kobe just said that zone defense was shitty few days ago in his interview with Earnie (because he understands that zone is an OK defense when you are shitty on defense). And Kobe also said that the defense was so much better back in the 80's and 90's, that players had to be MUCH MORE SKILLED (those are the words of Kobe) to score.
      But I know you are the kind of guy who watch a basketball game and who doesn't understand SHIT about the game besides who scored the basketball. That's why you have to look at stats (instead of skills or level of play) to make your opinion.
      Players were just better all around in the 80's and 90's, that's it. Offensively and defensively. It's a whole new era...and Kobe played in the 90's. He didn't do shit.
      No serious fans, who understand both offense and defense will ever tell you that today's defense is comparable to 80's/90's. That's a joke...

However, Clyde was better than 99.9% of NBA players, which is extremely impressive when you consider that more than 99.9% of competitive basketball players don't even make the NBA. Keep in mind that Clyde handled the ball far less than MJ, yet still racked up huge numbers.
    Matter of fact, the very reason I rate MJ as the greatest of all time, and better than Magic, Larry, Wilt and Kobe, is that he was that much better than Clyde.

    Well, that's fine, you can say that Magic and Bird are the G.O.A.T.'s... And I understand why; they were both amazing players. However, Michael was better than them in literally every way... MVP's, Championships, Per-Game Stats, Career Stats, definitely defense, and every other way imagineable except for maybe passing. Yes, I'm young, but don't just assume that I don't appreciate Bird and Magic, I'm simply stating that MJ was better than them because he literally was.

      Jake Tierney Magic is a better passer and better at bringing out the best in his teammates
      Bird is a better shooter and rebounder
      But I do agree that MJ is better in every other category

    Ok, so Jordan is definitely the GOAT. That one is obvious. He may have had Pippen, but Pippen was no where near as good as people thought he was. He was really only "great" at defense. Jordan is better than D Wade, Kobe, LeBron, and Drexler. (However all of these guys are great players, but they're not in Jordan's league.)

    What if..... What if Blazers had chosen Jordan in that Draft. What if Drexler and Jordan played side by side in Portland.... Just a bnch of what ifs.....

      Daniel Hernandez I think Drexler and Jordan would've been better than Jordan and Pippen

    Possibilities.... Drexler, Jordan, and Hakeem Olajuwon all could have ended up on the rockets.

      plus, they already had Ralph Sampson.. the Lakers wouldn't have won all those chips in the 80s.. there would've been some great west coast battles between the Rockets and the Lakers

    jordan is no where near the goat he didnt face competition and he let clyde give him 42 are u serious,? imagine wat d.wade and kobe do to jordan- dont believe the hype, clyde took his team to the finals by himself, jordan won 6 rings wit pippen thass not impressive= weak era.

    Know if Portland took Jordan instead of Sam Bowie Drexler and Jordan Kersey Portor,
    Keep Michael Thompson, There #Pick They send him to LA, Instead.
    And that's why in the draft you take the best scorer.
    Portland did it again Picking Oden Over Durant?
    Because they had Brandon Roy Pass on Jordan they had Clyde?
    If they went the other way look out Portland would have more rings.

    he is 6'6"...he is exactly an inch shorter than drexler standing next to each other. I've seen Mj in real life-in 88 next to other players and he was exactly what he was supposed to be--same height as dr. J-ect...i've seen his dunks from 85, they were weak, and he didn't have to worry about ducking his head coz they weren't gonna touch the rim...only wilkens was the one that had to duck...and even so to prove me that he had 48 inches, he's nose will have to be above the rim...get off his nuts

      Portland didn't need MJ. The real what if is if portland got prime sabonis or hakeem. 90's would have been blazers era.
