@thebulletwithoutagun: In the five years leading up to the 1992 Finals, Drexler averaged just under 29 ppg on 51.4% shooting along with 7.5 rebounds, 6.25 assists and 2.75 steals in eight games against MJ and the Bulls. All of those numbers exceeded his averages against the rest of the NBA during those years. The teams split the game, 4-4. Jordan was better, obviously (see the 1992 NBA Finals) but people act like MJ always dominated Clyde, and that wasn't true.

In that time only Dominiqe Wilkins could compere to these two great players. If only Clyde played for Lakers or Celtics he would be one of the most recognisable NBA super star.
Funny always have Scottie Pippen and interviews popping shit about how the Bulls used to handle Clyde the Glide and handle the Trailblazers but he don't talk about games like this. Games like this for Clyde the Glide have 42 points in like a decision like nine rebounds and like three four steals while he Scottie Pippen couldn't even get 10 points. When the second leading scorer of the Chicago Bulls team was Charles Oakley with 10 points. While Scottie Pippen's opposition that he played against Jerome Kersey had 18 points. Things to make you say hmmmm🤔
People who made comments like it was like watching Jordan play against himself let's get it untwisted , Clyde the Glide was in the NBA before Michael Air Jordan. So Clyde was just being the Glide, a guy who looked up the doctor J and try to model himself behind dr. J. well Air Jordan was also another guy that looked up the doctor J was just trying to be dr. J.
Oh My GOD !!! The level of play is...I am speechless...Golden Era of the NBA BASKETBALL!!! Obviously, the blazers were much more talented individually than the Bulls and they were probably the most feared team in the NBA from 1990 to 1992. And let me just add that Drexler is the real second best shooting guard in the history of basketball !
Clyde has a total of 15 seasons where he's made the playoffs 2963 points in the playoffs, Kobe Bryant has about 5460 points total and he hasn't played since 2012 where he scored 42 while getting eliminated by KD and Russ. As far as putting the ball in the basket, Kobe is much better and he is also a better defender by whether you acknowledge it or not. KB has 9 All defensive first team awards. Clyde's career high is 50 points lol. Kobe had ten 50 point games in 2006/2007 and four 50 point games in a row. Kobe would eat Clyde alive in a one-on-one if they were in their primes and Kobe is a better passer than Clyde was. Fundamentally, Drexler definitely doesn't beat him out. Drexler probably has the edge in shooting percentages but the low quality shots Kobe has hit cannot be measured on paper. Drexler has about two years where he has about 100+ points over 2000 total and he averaged 27.3 or something at his best. Kobe Bryant averaged 27.9 ppg in 2012 when he was about 32 or 33 years old. You can't convince that this dude who barley won a ring is better than the Mamba.
The golden era when the game was played by men who had heart and played it the way it was intended! "The Glide" doesnt seem to get the respect he deserves, guy was a phenomenal bball player.
If Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins, David Thompson, Benard King, George Gervin, or even Julius Erving played in today's NBA game, they all would probably averaged around 40 points per game. Notice during on this video how Michael Jordan was double-teamed and in some cases triple-teamed. Two-handed checking was allowed on defense during that era. So that means Jordan had to work extremely hard to get into the lane to score or get his shot off over defenders. Jordan had an extremely explosive first step off the dribble. He was very creative with the basketball. If Jordan played in today's NBA game, he would averaged around 50 points per game. He was scary 😨 😳 good
everyone can forget that jordan averaged 10-12 more shot attempts than drexler though-out his career. michael had 52 but one other player had only 10 in that gAME. enough said
you are just too young to remember a ten time all-star...probably never even seen him or jordan playing in the 80-90's...as i said he ain't jordan but he was next best during his time and he's the most famous 22 in baskeball for sure...if you knew anything about this game...and btw the blazers won this game and he had 42 pts/5rbs/9ast/and 8 steals with 0 TO...
These 2 Used to go at each other damn but Clyde Drexler was no push over either the only thing is that Michael loves the challenge but Clyde Drexler was very talented as well
@hangtime23ful: I wouldn't say Clyde was a better all-around player, but I would say he was probably a better "team" player in that he got his teammates more involved and was slightly better at things like rebounding and creating easy opportunities for teammates. However, MJ so much better as a pure scorer and individual defender that he was clearly superior overall. So Clyde may have played a team game, but MJ helped his team win. And as he said "There's no I in team but there is in win."
Jordan had 52pts the next player in double figures is Oakley with 10pts😂😂😂Man I know Jordan had to be excited once Pippen and Grant developed. Because Jordan was gonna get worn out had they not...
@thebulletwithoutagun: I never said there was a debate. MJ is clearly better. All I'm saying is that in his prime Drexler held his own against MJ better than anyone else and better than most people think. I don't know why you have a problem with that, but clearly you feel the need to defend MJ even when he isn't being attacked, which leads me to believe you have inferiority issues.
Jordan and drexler is what today Kobe and Wade are today. Jordan always had the attention and the rings, while wade was an all around player, but never got recognized as the best player until he exploded in the 2008-2009 season.
Simply stated Drexler was in the wrong market. If he had played for the Knicks or the Pistons he would have a higher regard. I don't know how many times I saw him have a forty point game against the Jazz or the Warriors that quite simply very few people saw.
Look at Jordan's size in college, 6'5" 187. He was much smaller and quicker, plus a great shooter. Clyde was a huge guard, with freakish hand strength, ran like a deer & played a small forward roll on the glass. They are more different than alike.
most people agree on that even clyde. but when jordan faced himeven MJ said "took it personally", that means he deserves at least that much respect. who else can possibly score 42 pts and 0 To's against goat MJ? out of all the guards just about only players i can think about is prime kobe and AI or Tmac on a good day...of course Mj will have his share too
Jordan to Drexler size/strength-drexler jumping ability-drexler, yes..he did jump higher than jordan passing-drexler rebounding-drexler quickness-Jordan balance(control of the body in the air)-Jordan inside game-Jordan mid range game-Jordan determination-Jordan Confidence-Jordan 1 on 1 defense-Jordan I love drexer and his career even suggests he was a better all around, team player, but Jordan's offense and mental toughness cannot be matched...Never seen Jordan losing confidence any time...
I hope the fans in the Stadium knew what they were seeing. This was like watching Barishnikov and Nureyev on the same stage, or Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the same band. It's one incredible play after another by both guys. A couple of thoughts: Drexler's steal at 5:35 is unreal and his dunk at 2:37 is sick. But his three pointer at the end of the third was the most important play of the game, and clutch.
While I have nothing but love for Mark Jackson...how dare he claim that Dwayne Wade was the third best two-guard of all time and played in the same era as Clyde Dexler. In fact, I think Clyde was the 2nd greatest shooting guard of all time (yeah I said it Kobe!) Now, excuse me while I brace myself for the avalanche of morons that are going to come at me for that.
rest Trash Talker 4th, if you don't care about the HUGE DIFFERENCES in their respective era. Which is the case for 90% of all the "official" ESPN.TNT ranking. If you take into account the era, Drexler is second. He put the same kind of numbers than those guys with WAY WAY BETTER DEFENSE AGAINST HIM every night. But yes, if you don't care about the differences in their time and you talk about accomplishments (which is basically what people are looking at), yes I will put Drexler 4th. But, level of play? Second...
Air Magic No no no no no. 80's and early 90's defense are way shittier than modern day defenses. www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_stats.html Just look at points allowed and shooting percentage and how it drops. Drexler was good offensively yeah but Wade and Kobe put up 30+ ppg seasons with zone defense and not man2man like Drexler did. And not just that.. Wade and Kobe are better defenders and ball handlers/playmakers.
rest Trash Talker Kobe just said that zone defense was shitty few days ago in his interview with Earnie (because he understands that zone is an OK defense when you are shitty on defense). And Kobe also said that the defense was so much better back in the 80's and 90's, that players had to be MUCH MORE SKILLED (those are the words of Kobe) to score. But I know you are the kind of guy who watch a basketball game and who doesn't understand SHIT about the game besides who scored the basketball. That's why you have to look at stats (instead of skills or level of play) to make your opinion. Players were just better all around in the 80's and 90's, that's it. Offensively and defensively. It's a whole new era...and Kobe played in the 90's. He didn't do shit. No serious fans, who understand both offense and defense will ever tell you that today's defense is comparable to 80's/90's. That's a joke...
i've said again and again he ain't jordan...all i said was he jumped higher dunked harder and was stronger and a better passer...it's just a small part of game so that doesn't make him better than jordan but certain thing he did better. who else are you gonna compare to the best SG against than the 2nd best SG in the game? drexler was the only other SG in original dream team validates that fact. most people who saw him playing like me consider him just below MJ and kobe as one of the best SG
No he didn't. Mj had to carry the offensive load just to stay in this game. Did you see what the next point total was? 10 pts by Oakley... That's how bad the Bulls were. MJ could do anything on the basketball court, but his team needs him to score, so that's what he did.
Many people consider Drexler the greatest pure athlete of the era. At 8:05, you can see why. He covers 24 feet in three steps at the finish of that drive.
Rank them where u want (we all know MJ is no 1) but MJ & Clyde are, w/out a doubt, the two MOST ATHLETIC shooting guards in the history of the NBA. Btw, I went to high school w/Drexler @ Ross Shaw Sterling High School (home of the MIGHTY RAIDERS) right here in H-Town, Tx...🏀😎
don't talk about the players if you haven seen him playing....not talking about hl's...but real games...if you even seen clyde play for years, you know he's a better passer than Jordan...and if you wanna talk stats,,,clyde avgv 8.0 assists only in 34 min per game when Jordan needed more than 40 min. plus he had +6 assist season 5 times compare to Jordan's 3 even though Jordan always played more min than him
if Jordan really jumped 48 inches, being at 6'6 his lip would be on the rim, but if you see all the hl's of him you will never see him jump that high...we all know it's bs number someone made up to make mj #1...and if you see ever seen real games of Jordan vs Drexler, you know Jordan had quickness edge, but Drexler punished Jordan more than a few times in the low post coz he is STRONGER and BIGGER...you obviously don't know Drexler, problem is also don't know MJ either
pippen was not only good at defense he keep his team mates involved keep the offence flowing and had many game saving defensive plays he horace grant was one of the best rebounder in the nba in his time he was also a good back up scorer to mj and pippen he had Dennis rodman who average 15 rebounds at one point he had bj Armstrong a good guard i can list more basket ball is a team sport stop ranking out individuals with out a well rounded team no championship
Clyde was the better all around player. 20k pts 6k rbs 6 k ast, only O and Hondo did that. Jordan was a better shooter, but Clyde is 4th behind him and Payton in steals also.
Jordan played over 4000 more minutes in his career and yet Drexler had over 500 more assists than Jordan. if you look at it 36mpg--it becomes really obvious Jordan at 5apg/36min and Drexler at 6apg/36min...only time Jordan had 650 assist was he played 81 games at 40min, Drexler did 600 in only 75 games not even starting in all of them.just don't argue if you don't know what you are talking about and if you are gonna look up the b-reference, look at the right stuff to act like you know something
@pyeuneu con't. "passing-drexler" MJ's wizard yrs LOWERED his apg (and fg%) avg to 5apg. Prior to that it was at 6apg. Clyde's is 5apg. Clyde's BEST season for total assists is 600. MJ's is 650! "rebounding-drexler" I give clyde the edge there, but just barely..
"Obvious"? Only if you're 30 yrs old or younger. . .Ask John Sally or even Worthy who the GOAT is, and they'll say either Bird or Magic. And I agree whole heartedly.
@KazaamJones: there is no question MJ was better than Clyde. However, Clyde was better than 99.9% of NBA players, which is extremely impressive when you consider that more than 99.9% of competitive basketball players don't even make the NBA. Keep in mind that Clyde handled the ball far less than MJ, yet still racked up huge numbers. Matter of fact, the very reason I rate MJ as the greatest of all time, and better than Magic, Larry, Wilt and Kobe, is that he was that much better than Clyde.
Well, that's fine, you can say that Magic and Bird are the G.O.A.T.'s... And I understand why; they were both amazing players. However, Michael was better than them in literally every way... MVP's, Championships, Per-Game Stats, Career Stats, definitely defense, and every other way imagineable except for maybe passing. Yes, I'm young, but don't just assume that I don't appreciate Bird and Magic, I'm simply stating that MJ was better than them because he literally was.
Jake Tierney Magic is a better passer and better at bringing out the best in his teammates Bird is a better shooter and rebounder But I do agree that MJ is better in every other category
Ok, so Jordan is definitely the GOAT. That one is obvious. He may have had Pippen, but Pippen was no where near as good as people thought he was. He was really only "great" at defense. Jordan is better than D Wade, Kobe, LeBron, and Drexler. (However all of these guys are great players, but they're not in Jordan's league.)
What if..... What if Blazers had chosen Jordan in that Draft. What if Drexler and Jordan played side by side in Portland.... Just a bnch of what ifs.....
plus, they already had Ralph Sampson.. the Lakers wouldn't have won all those chips in the 80s.. there would've been some great west coast battles between the Rockets and the Lakers
jordan is no where near the goat he didnt face competition and he let clyde give him 42 are u serious,? imagine wat d.wade and kobe do to jordan- dont believe the hype, clyde took his team to the finals by himself, jordan won 6 rings wit pippen thass not impressive= weak era.
Know if Portland took Jordan instead of Sam Bowie Drexler and Jordan Kersey Portor, Keep Michael Thompson, There #Pick They send him to LA, Instead. And that's why in the draft you take the best scorer. Portland did it again Picking Oden Over Durant? Because they had Brandon Roy Pass on Jordan they had Clyde? If they went the other way look out Portland would have more rings.
he is 6'6"...he is exactly an inch shorter than drexler standing next to each other. I've seen Mj in real life-in 88 next to other players and he was exactly what he was supposed to be--same height as dr. J-ect...i've seen his dunks from 85, they were weak, and he didn't have to worry about ducking his head coz they weren't gonna touch the rim...only wilkens was the one that had to duck...and even so to prove me that he had 48 inches, he's nose will have to be above the rim...get off his nuts
Clyde would kill in todays NBA he is so underrated

if Jordan really jumped 48 inches, being at 6'6 his lip would be on the rim, but if you see all the hl's of him you will never see him jump that high...we all know it's bs number someone made up to make mj #1...and if you see ever seen real games of Jordan vs Drexler, you know Jordan had quickness edge, but Drexler punished Jordan more than a few times in the low post coz he is STRONGER and BIGGER...you obviously don't know Drexler, problem is also don't know MJ either
I think during between '91-'94 the Knicks should have traded for him....they probably would've won at least 1 championship during that decade.
clyde drexler's team had good team work
Jordan had a better team, more help and always shoot more than Clyde. but the way they play i like to watch Clyde more.
pippen was not only good at defense he keep his team mates involved keep the offence flowing and had many game saving defensive plays he horace grant was one of the best rebounder in the nba in his time he was also a good back up scorer to mj and pippen he had Dennis rodman who average 15 rebounds at one point he had bj Armstrong a good guard i can list more basket ball is a team sport stop ranking out individuals with out a well rounded team no championship
Clyde was the better all around player. 20k pts 6k rbs 6 k ast, only O and Hondo did that. Jordan was a better shooter, but Clyde is 4th behind him and Payton in steals also.
my bad i read that wrong. I thought you were saying switch clyde for Jordan
drexler was the more powerful and probably higher jumper than jordan...jordan was quicker and better balance in the air
i don't think Jordan have better balance or faster than Clyde.
Head to head Clyde is best over all his D way better offense is jus as good
you kidding me, 52 points, 8 rebs, 8 assist, jordan had the upper hand
As a Bulls Fan, Drexler Used to make Us Nervous
I'm sure clyde wasn't1 looking forward to.covering Jordan ...I'll bet both of them lost some sleep
@pyeuneu
con't.
"passing-drexler"
MJ's wizard yrs LOWERED his apg (and fg%) avg to 5apg.
Prior to that it was at 6apg. Clyde's is 5apg.
Clyde's BEST season for total assists is 600. MJ's is 650!
"rebounding-drexler"
I give clyde the edge there, but just barely..
what most people don't know is jordan should've been blazer
4:03 Drexler should have warned bryon russell about that
Portland wouldn't have gotten Scottie...so....idk those rings aren't promised.
So much for Jordan's defense. Dang. The refs missed that travel call on Porter...lol
So.much for Clyde's defense lmao 52 points..lol
awesome. after watching this, its clear that mj could have averaged 50 points a game if he played in this era.
what would Clyde avg? what would dr J or Bernard King avg? or Barkley I know mj is great but I hate when we do that vs breaing it all the way down
"Obvious"? Only if you're 30 yrs old or younger. . .Ask John Sally or even Worthy who the GOAT is, and they'll say either Bird or Magic. And I agree whole heartedly.
MJ was the best is the best and still the best
@KazaamJones: there is no question MJ was better than Clyde. However, Clyde was better than 99.9% of NBA players, which is extremely impressive when you consider that more than 99.9% of competitive basketball players don't even make the NBA. Keep in mind that Clyde handled the ball far less than MJ, yet still racked up huge numbers.
Matter of fact, the very reason I rate MJ as the greatest of all time, and better than Magic, Larry, Wilt and Kobe, is that he was that much better than Clyde.
it wasnt a travel. his left was his pivot foot
Upper hand and he lost? Better statline doesn't mean better game.
Jake Tierney Magic is a better passer and better at bringing out the best in his teammates
Bird is a better shooter and rebounder
But I do agree that MJ is better in every other category
And clyde wins!!!!!!!!
He had 3 assists.
Daniel Hernandez I think Drexler and Jordan would've been better than Jordan and Pippen
Possibilities.... Drexler, Jordan, and Hakeem Olajuwon all could have ended up on the rockets.
plus, they already had Ralph Sampson.. the Lakers wouldn't have won all those chips in the 80s.. there would've been some great west coast battles between the Rockets and the Lakers
Was I the only one that saw the travel @ 1:14
6:30
jordan is no where near the goat he didnt face competition and he let clyde give him 42 are u serious,? imagine wat d.wade and kobe do to jordan- dont believe the hype, clyde took his team to the finals by himself, jordan won 6 rings wit pippen thass not impressive= weak era.
MJ didn't get much help this game.

jordon didn’t have hang time the way Clyde Drexler or Julius Erving did...stop it.
Know if Portland took Jordan instead of Sam Bowie Drexler and Jordan Kersey Portor,
Keep Michael Thompson, There #Pick They send him to LA, Instead.
And that's why in the draft you take the best scorer.
Portland did it again Picking Oden Over Durant?
Because they had Brandon Roy Pass on Jordan they had Clyde?
If they went the other way look out Portland would have more rings.
Jordan haters i see on here
still more assists than mj.
he is 6'6"...he is exactly an inch shorter than drexler standing next to each other. I've seen Mj in real life-in 88 next to other players and he was exactly what he was supposed to be--same height as dr. J-ect...i've seen his dunks from 85, they were weak, and he didn't have to worry about ducking his head coz they weren't gonna touch the rim...only wilkens was the one that had to duck...and even so to prove me that he had 48 inches, he's nose will have to be above the rim...get off his nuts
imagine portland had drafted jordan....
+juan leal Imagine if Portland would have had a prime Sabonis.
or if Portland won the coin flip. getting Hakeem
Portland didn't need MJ. The real what if is if portland got prime sabonis or hakeem. 90's would have been blazers era.
