More defense was played in these highlights than the last ten all star games.
Barkley's left handed jam on Dikembe Mutombo Mplondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo was unreal.

Early 90s basketball is what i grew up on and what made me love the NBA. It was a special time, NBA loaded with great players and personalities to match. You really got to love these guys when they were out there. I can't really say the same for the last 20 years of the NBA, especially today. What a treat this video was. I remember watching this all-star game several times (I recorded it on VHS). In my opinion, it was the most dramatic and MAGICAL. The West shot the lights out and defense from both teams was stellar. Tim Hardaway was emerging as one of the best all-around PGs while Drexler was in the prime of his career. It would have been nice to see David Robinson also try out for a slam dunk championship with his athleticism. All-star games just aren't the same today without Magic & Isiah running the offenses for their respective teams.

@@chickhearn4ever779 You assert that Jordan was "way more athletic" in your first sentence, then proceed to list off skillsets that aren't directly applicable as pure examples of athleticism; whether Drexler dribbled the way you like, or ran in a straight line when he had possession, doesn't really speak one way or the other to raw athletic ability.
So, for example, if Usain Bolt has never touched a basketball -- doesn't dribble well, can't shoot, can't pass, etc. -- and can't play well next to Steve Kerr or Steph Curry, that doesn't mean that Bolt is less athletic than those people.
I hope this helps to solve your confusion, as I don't plan to get any more tautological with my explanation. Suffice to say, your reply is mendacious at best, deeply ignorant at worst.

@@CashCollecta It only took Stockton 10 seasons to break the all-time assists record. It took Magic 11 seasons.
Stockton also did this with the handicap of coming off the bench and pkaying limited minutes in his first 2 and a half years in the league.
From that perspective, Stockton surpassed Magic in just 7 1/2 years of starting. Which is crazy.
Stockton also broke the all-time assists per game record in his first year starting, and is the only player in NBA history with multiple 1000 assist season. Stockton has 7 of the 9 1000 Assist Seasons, for the record.
Magic's career high in assists is 13.1. The only time he averaged 13 or more assists in a season. Stockton had a higher average than that in his first season starting, with 13.8 assists per game.
From 1987-88 to 1991-92, Stockton averaged 14 assists per game.
In Magic's 13 season career, he averaged 11.2 assists per game.
In Stockton's first 13 seasons in the league, he averaged 11.5 assists per game (despite that adorementioned minutes limitation and bench role in his first 2 1/2 seasons).
This idea that Magic would have held onto the assist title if he had only kept playing is innumerate; Stockton broke the record in record time, and averaged more assists per game than Magic while doing it. He also averaged more assists per game through 13 seasons than Magic did in that same timespan (which encapsulated Magic's career).
People treat Stockton with great disrespect. And the telling thing is that thet very often misrepresent the numbers to do it.

the NBA of the 1980s was the best. starting in 1990 it all went downhill. this was a glimmer of greatness in a decade that saw a league diluted with expansion and rule changes implemented to promote a single team and player for financial gain

The West all stars in 92 was on fire and this was Magic Johnson best all star game moment like it's no tomorrow. This is when he announced his retirement due to Aids but that didn't stop him to play his final all star game moment before he went to Barcelona aka "The Dream Team."

These players had tremendous elegance, style, personality, magic, creativity, attitude, compromise, respect for the crowd. we were really lucky to see this unique generation of players. after Duncan, Ginobili, Shaq, Kobe, Miller ,Iverson and other goood guys... we dont have the same emotion during the games all star... today is only a boring competition 3 point game even in the regular games, there is nothing compare......... Sorry for the players of today in NBA, they really need to see the past and learn from the legends, then they will create their own good history.

It was a good NBA All Star but I would had liked it more if Larry Bird was there. At least Reggie Lewis of the Boston Celtics played, may god bless him and may he rest in peace. This All Star game was a tribute to ErvIn Magic Johnson

What defense? This game was a 40 point blowout. The West were the only ones playing defense. You oldheads complain about high scoring games nowadays, but the West scored 153 points in this game.
