    > If they would have just released one version of the Retro Gem with every feature of the shiny edition at the shiny edition price, then I wouldn't have a problem.
    I don't understand this sentiment. You already mentioned the basic is an option to opt out of the fancy features to save money, for those who intend to use an external scaler. Isn't this a good thing? The fact that you can upgrade it wirelessly is another positive too, no?

    Yeah, I tried that mod myself. That mod sucks, but man, is it impressive when it works. I was able to get it finished, but it took some real skill, and I probably wouldn't attempt again lol

    Sorry, last time I got an infested console like that, I double wrapped it in a plastic bag and threw it away.

    I’ve heard that the upscaling on the board isn’t very good and the m classic paired with this looks MUCH better. I wonder what an rt4k paired with this at 480p would look like

    definitely want some solid experience soldering small parts before attempting to install one of these, but doesn't require 'years of soldering experience' - I managed to skill up enough from watching a bunch of install videos and only messing up 2 PS1 boards before proper technique finally clicked and I've been able to get PS1 and PS2 (fat 39000) soldered in successfully after not soldering anything for a very long time prior. Big big key is to have proper equipment - like you showed very fine solder tips, you'll 100% need a temperature adjustable soldering station and most people will want a digital microscope. I would recommend buying a donor board to practice soldering tiny parts for a while before giving a Retro GEM install a shot but as long as you have steady hands and patience you'll be able to do it.

    Mechapwn can be used on fats also. My fat ps2 is heavily modded and runs this exploit. A few things of note. Mechapwn can either make your ps2 region free killing the backward compatibility or you can keep the compatibility and allow it to run region free/burned ps1 disks. (This is the one i recommend) also note that if you install it incorrectly you will brick the ps2

    While the Retro Gem is nice, if you dont have the skills to install it then just buy an upscaler. It will be a little bit more expensive but better if you have alot of retro consoles

    ps2 fat 50001 doesn't need a new power supply replacement

    First original backwards compatible PlayStation 3 is much more simple lol. Retro gem is pretty cool too tho!

      All fat PS3s need too much maintenace to prevent the ylod which will happen sooner or later

      All PS3 models will be able to play PS1 games. The later models can be run with Custom Firmware or Hybrid Firmware with Hen, and a homebrew game manager to run PS2 games (from backups) but compatibility is still patchy, if you want to go that route.

    So ultimately, you spent so much on one console that you might as well have bought a rt4k and have been able to upscale all your consoles.😅

      OSSC Pro is the better option. Retrotink 4k is great but way to pricey

    Disagree, that time splitters footage looked crusty as fuck compared to component cables with retro tink.

    So.. not going to lie.. the Retro GEM looks super bad compared to an adapter I can find on Amazon. The extra options are nice to have, but it doesn't really clear up the games as a "Night/Day" difference. Because I have a 3900x model of a FatBoi PS2, it supports the advanced composite out (or HDMI 1.0 if you're that picky), so images are sharper even on my 4K TV.

      @MichaelM28 4 месяца назад

      "advanced composite out"????
      Composite is objectively the worst quality you can get out of a PS2. Component (YPbPr) is the best analogue quality from PS2 but it's not as good as the RetroGEM as that's a pure digital signal with no sharpness or colour compression.
      Also what do you mean by HDMI 1.0? There's no HDMI port on a stock PS2

    • @MichaelM28
      @MichaelM28 4 месяца назад +1

      You're clearly lying about an amazon adaptor looking better than the RetroGEM. Even the highest quality component cables connected to the Retrotink 5x don't look as good as the RetroGEM.

    • @MichaelM28

      Additionally you having a 39000 model PS2 means absolutely nothing. All PS2 models use the same connections (composite, s-video, rgb scart and component)

      a) Someone's mad.
      b) "The retrogem is the best solution"
      Just, no. The gem has more muted colors. Component ironically hides the imperfections the clean digital signal has.

    Dropped a retro gem in my n64, was looking to do it to the ps1 but I don’t think it’s compatible? (7500 series). However I’m definitely dropping one in the ps2…35000 series hopefully…fingers crossed. . Also use an mClassic, plug that bad boy from your multiport to the tv 🤌🏻
