  • Every boat owner must watch this video! This small overlook issue could potentially cost you hundreds of dollar $$$$$. My boat bunk came off the 1st time and had put a big gouge in the gel coat costing $1,200 dollar in repair. The second time it came off cost me a damage keel guard! I knew then it was time to get this problem fixed permanently...Enjoy the video guys!

    Great idea with heating up the pipe. My trailer is only 2 months old but I am going to do the same as you. Thanks.

    great fix but i would have put a flat washers on the lag bolts to disperse the weight further outward along that bunk. bunk is 2x6 and needs support outward towards edge of that bracket. otherwise excellent video and DIY help ..i will tackle this asap thanks....

      Good idea, I might be doing that next time. Thanks

      There’s a whole bracket under the lag. Washer will do nothing at all.

    Shouldn’t have carpet all the way around bunk that cause brackets to rust out faster

      The carpet is original, it’s was already like that but it’s a good idea!

    Good video. I'm doing the same job and hope the neighbors dog does not poop in my yard.

    I'm surprised no one's mentioned this but lag bolts are typically not used because they will make a pressure point that will end up making a weak spot in the fiberglass on your boat. You might try to countersink them but then you loose wood strength. Eventually the lag bolts will be higher than the wood. If the fix was that simple then everyone wouldn't been using them. Also were those lag bolts stainless???

      Lags are very very common. Most come from the factory with them

    I can’t find the bunk bracket that look like the one on your trailer.

    You should add some lock washers to those bolts.

      Weekend Warrior ....I did not think it was necessary because the nut that I used is a nylon lock nut. But good idea!

    good job, did you use stainless steel for nuts and bolts??

    • @fwtailchaser3502
      @fwtailchaser3502  3 года назад

      Absolutely YES! It’s the only way to go is stainless.

    Why didn't you jack up the boat off of the trailer to remove the bunks jack sitting in front of trailer

    • @fwtailchaser3502
      @fwtailchaser3502  Год назад

      I don’t have the tool to do it given where I had the trailer sit on a slope in front of my driveway. So I did what I can at the time! Also, the bunks in front never give me any issue.

      Plastic dip was some thing I have laying around at the time . Probably some leftover from another project….lol
