Had a gx390 backfiring bad. Exhaust valve was extremely off. Adjusted it and it fired right up. Thank you for the easy to follow video. Now I need to get my hands on a 1/4" torque wrench. Thanks again!
I realize you belabored the compression stroke but you lost it when you went to the arrow. The arrow aligns also on the exhaust/intake stroke transition. The way you mentioned the marking might have been slightly unclear.
Great job. I have a Tecumseh HM100, (10HP) gas engine. Great shape. Would like to convert to electric start, but can't find a conversion kit. Maybe another manufacture would be ok. Any suggestions. Thanks
Hello, I am working with the Honda GX390 engine. I need to determine the valve timing, how can I do this or do you have this information? This is the information I mean; 1) Intake valve opening angle:? 2) Intake valve closing angle? 3) Exhaust valve opening angle? 4) Exhaust valve closing angle?
So on my 4 stroke stihl weedeater when you adjust valves you spin the engine over until the arrow on flywheel is lined up with the ignition coil, and you wiggle it back and forth to make sure neither of the valves are moving, is this the same concept on this honda?
Great video Jeff, when i go to pull the motor to start it, it rips the cord out of my hand so much so its dangerous bloody whipped my hand, why does it do this?
That sounds like kickback. If the fuel and air ignite before it reaches top-dead-center on the compression stroke it could force the piston back down reversing crankshaft rotation and pulling the recoil cord from your hand.
The exhaust valve could be set to tight. During starting there is a decomposition valve that will open the exhaust vavle slightly during the compression stroke to aid in starting. I do have a video on that on my channel.
Thank you so much, I just fixed my valves 30 minutes ago. The mechanic told me the engine had no use on fixing it, to just buy a new one.
@con2rito your welcome. I'm glad it worked out.

Précision et professionnalisme.Merci
I put a finger on the rockers push rod end just to keep it well seated while using feeler gauge.

I will be giving that a go thank you
How do you be certain the Compression release does not engage ? .....it is spring loaded to engage at low RPM and tightens up the exhaust valve ....

Thanks, right to the point.

Exactly!
That is still a 2 stroke engine. Yes it has valves like a 4 stroke. Stihl calls it a 4 mix engine. Yes you do have to adjust the valves periodically.

@@jtkasprick prob bad valve clearence values, or coil placed in wrong way.
What did you do to fix this issue @mead6754? I have same issue on Honda gx390. Thank you
The Honda repair manual says to check the camshaft, the lobes...
Last time you use the tool for what?
What tool are you referring to?
Very nice video pro
could you provide with the manual you are using in the vid?
All the manuals are listed here with links.

my gx340 exhaust valve open slightly after intake valve closes during initial compression stroke to halfway compression stroke, is that normal?
The exhaust valve could be set to tight. During starting there is a decomposition valve that will open the exhaust vavle slightly during the compression stroke to aid in starting. I do have a video on that on my channel.

When the keyway on the shaft points up to exhaust ...Its at top of compression stroke
