I like these ideas, b ut honesty. I donlt care at all about using large soft hackle feather. I just use what I have and it makes no difference. I also tie kebari flies. where the hackles lengths can be almost extreme. Love the presentation though. :-)
Funny that you should mention kebari flies as I've ben thinking about doing a short series on them. You're right in that the hackles can get crazy long with those flies, but in this case, I'm trying to stay within the genre. It's interesting in how anglers in Yorkshire and Japan both settled on these simple patterns that work so well.
