If i had to guess, the hackers always intended to air out all of their dirty laundry, but they held a special hatred for people who look at kids wrong. My theory is they made him do as many terrible things as possible to ensure he'd go to prison for life and never try to actually touch a kid

That's actually an interesting theory. Never looked at it like that, but it makes sense, considering how so many pedophiles tend to get considerably light sentences.

so they did a terrible job at that because his m7rder charge could be dismissed since it was self defense and he could easily say he was coerced into robbing the bank and also implicating the other older man, who was also coerced into being his accomplice.
He could spend years in prison but for life? lol no and theres the risk that when he comes out he now would be even more dangerous, well done hackers

It is certainly possible, as they kind of had an ascending order to progressive punishment with the CP individuals fighting to the death. However, I think ultimately they did it “for the luls” and the plot twist would not nearly be as effective if the two didn’t meet at the end.

@@nl-ho4wm idk if the judge/prosecution would see it that way, in regards to self-defense, because if he hadn't been doing the CP thing to begin with, none of this would have happened...but maybe charges are handled one at a time, verses combining them..idk...
As lax as the judicial system can be, even pedophiles within it, wouldn't be surprised if he received a light sentence...

One of the most subversive elements of the twist is that people don't normally consider men his age as pedophiles. Usually, people have an image in their mind of old wrinkly men or middle-aged guys with dad bods and pedo staches. Very rarely do you ever hear of teenage boys or young men who are into that stuff and act on those urges, probably because we still think of them as kids themselves. But it does happen a lot.

    • @melmentomori
      @melmentomori Год назад +142

Absolutely. In fact, every story of sexual abuse from the people in my life who I personally know (obviously won't name them) was inflicted upon that person by a teenage boy. People too often ignore how dangerous teenagers can be toward smaller children; they're more impulsive than adults and, especially if they've been sexually abused themselves, teens are more prone to having nowhere else to put their frustration at the world except by inflicting it upon a smaller kid or an animal. Obviously not all teenagers are violent or malevolent like that, but teens copy what they see from adults, and they can, unfortunately, be exactly as sexually violent as full grown adults can be. It's important to try to get them help before then, but obviously that's easier said than done.

Females too. Many overlook the fact there are female pedos. I'd imagine it's easier for them too, to just take a kid from a playground. Kid could be crying and pulling away and strangers would shrug it off.
Groomed kids are also a threat in that they can lure other kids away to the pedo.
Quite a few social experiments about this and confessions from caught pedos.

I personally haven't questioned why would the protagonist go so far because I've seen how a picture can destroy someone's life. It happened to one girl at my school, she had to move to another city for a while. She came back almost 3 years later and people still wouldn't leave her alone.
So yes, it was totally plausible a young person would be desperate because of a video like that. This episode was very well done, the plot twist caught me off guard.

The reason this episode is so mindfucking is a simple question: you may think, “Why do I still feel sorry for Kenny despite what he did?” An important theme in several Black Mirror episodes is, “Is the punishment justifiable for the crime?” Like in White Bear and Hated in the Nation, there is reason to believe that the punishment indeed outweighs the crime. The hackers could have just reported Kenny to the police, or offered him extreme therapy and counseling, but they instead threaten him to rob a bank and kill another man and end his life, enjoying seeing him suffer instead of doing moral normal justice. Very controversial episodes but they are phenomenal because they make audiences think.

I absolutely love the premise of Black Mirror, and this episode is a master class in demonstrating what true horror is. Machete-wielding maniacs, demonic clowns, flesh-devouring aliens...they pale in comparison to the psychological torture fest that our seemingly uneventful, ordinary-looking lives can become. We're left staring into that black mirror and asking ourselves: do those we give our empathy to really deserve it? If we can automatically empathize with someone that quickly, and then in the blink of an eye they're revealed to be the most reviled and repulsive creature alive, what does that make us? And just how far would any of us be willing to go to keep our own secrets hidden away? As horrifying as the realization of what Kenny's done is, for me the true gut punch is his mother's voice at the end. Bravo to the actress delivering those lines. She captured the very essence of a woman who, in a split second, went from a parent whose love for their child knows no bounds to being sickened by his very existence.

I thought of this episode when I saw “The Joker”, because of how both play with the audience’s empathy for the "protaganist". The difference being the Joker’s “morality” is much more ambiguous throughout, where as this twist completely reframes the character’s morality. You feel deeply sorry for both at first, but then you start to realize how dangerous they are...
This kid also seems like he was victimized, probably molested (cycle of abuse!). His demeanor, crushing lack of confidence, social awkwardness, and insecurity combined with intense paranoia. Like the "Sandy Hook" shooter.
Black Mirror is a little too real to classify as pure “sci-fi”, especially these days. I hope it comes back and they do an episode about AI robots, maybe a prequel to the killer dog-robots one (Boston Dynamics!).
