- Seymour S. Sassafrass, an eccentric, yet friendly peddler, and inventor, tells the tale of Peter Cottontail, a young Easter Bunny who lives in April Valley, where the Chief Easter Bunny supervises such Easter items as colored eggs and chocolate candy.
Colonel Wellington B. Bunny, the retiring Chief Easter Bunny, names young Peter his successor despite Peter's propensity for boasting and telling fibs, which is exemplified when his left ear droops. Peter, who has dreamed of being the Chief Easter Bunny almost his entire life, gladly accepts. But not everyone in April Valley is happy with the Colonel's decision. January Q. Irontail, an evil, reclusive rabbit villain who lives in a craggy old tree, alone except for his assistant, a bat named Montresor, wants to be the Chief Easter Bunny... Развлечения
Who is here from 2024
Me
Me too!
Me too

Me ✋
This is probably the most UNDERRATED Rankin Bass special
You get a solid story Many a Holiday A good moral lesson
AND VINCENT PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT MORE COULD U WANT?
And Danny Kaye
Actually the mouse on the mayflower is probably the most underrated.

I remember always watching this little film right before Easter every year as a little kid. Back when Easter seemed as exciting as Christmas. I miss my childhood. :)
I miss mine too. Life seemed more fun when I was younger.
Likewise---Kids of today,dont " grow up" you/they won't like adulthood!
Robbie Baker Yes, childhood is such a splendid thing. The sad thing about childhood: it doesn't last forever. But know this: we may not stay children forever or relive our childhoods, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it while it lasts or remember how fun it was.
Casey Kasem better known for being a dj.
Actor Danny Kaye in fact the narrator for the Easter and Christmas animated shows the characters also imaged in him he was a tall skinny red-haired gentleman famous for movies in the forties and fifties. It also says narrated on the first egg by Danny Kaye
Wow I can't believe it. I found my favorite Easter movie. Happy Anniversary Peter Cottontail. 48 years ago I was born in 1971. I had my first Easter when I was 1 years old in 1972. I remember when I turned 5 years old my mommy got bless her soul she have glass ball with Peter Cottontail and you wind up and would play Peter Cottontail hopping down Bunny Trail. And I still have till today. I never stopped believing in Easter Bunny.
The inspiring story of how Shaggy beat Professor Ratigan to become the Easter Bunny
LOL😆
😂😂😂
Truer words have never been spoken
Oh Ratigan! Oh Ratigan 😂
ZOINKS!
Nobody could tell this story better than Danny Kaye; he is always one of my favorite actors, so talented and funny!
Danny Kaye, Vincent Price, and Casey Kasem. What a trio for this spring special.
may they rest in peace!
No way! The original voice of Shaggy himself was involved in this special? XD
@@retrogamelover2012 Yep, pretty cool, huh?
*CHILDHOOD INTENSIFIES*
I completely forgot about this movie! Brings back a very warm and happy feeling😊
These type of specials were always my favorite thing growing up; I miss these.
Rankin/Bass specials like these will *NEVER* grow old.
"Here comes Peter cottontail hopping down the bunny trail" love it it gets stuck in my head ;3
gotta love these Rankin Bass holiday specials.
+Melodycat918
Do you also like The Hobbit, Thundercats, Silverhawks, The Last Unicorn and Flight of Dragons?
+Bdog 10o
You like those too even Last Unicorn and Flight of Dragons?
I'm w/ you, Melodycat918!
@@Stephen10528 really, oh really!
I do too.
Thank you for the kind memories of my youth, we who were born in the 60's-70's had some of the best of holiday memories... I remember buying those photo eggs every year with the scenery within, I miss those days of my childhood youth.
haven't thought of the photo eggs in 35 yes, wonderful memories!!!
So nostalgic!! I grew up watching this when I was a kid in the 90s. I just ordered the dvd so I can show my toddler 🥹🥹
This movie was my absolute favorite as a child!
Same
Why don't they play this on tv anymore during Easter time? I have been hoping to see it for years but haven't. I remember watching it as a kid and want my children to enjoy it. I guess I'll just have to tell them where to find it here on youtube. Thank God for RUclips!
Magic, excitement, music, action, fantasy, thrills, and adventures. Here Comes Peter Cottontail, I love this beautiful Easter movie. That never gets old, it goes on forever and ever over the years of spring. For Easter, I believe in the Easter bunny that gives hope to everyone of the world. Easter is one of my favorite holidays of the year. Flower fairies are growing new plants and flowers in the forest, and the gardens. I never gave up believing in fairies and magic with all my heart because I still refuse to grow up, and forget about the precious things I knew, especially those from my childhood. I am like Peter Pan. My one and only wish is to keep the magic alive for all time. And I also wish to be a fairy to stay strong, childlike, young, and beautiful forever and ever like Tinker Bell. Believe in magic and never grow up 🐰🐇🐣🐤🐥💮🌻🥀🔮🌈🪄⭐🌟🌠✴🐦🍬🧺🧚🧚♂🧚♀
I'm 33 years and still continue watch this film every Easter. It's part of our Easter tradition. Love it so much
i used to watch this with my grandma all the time before she passed.. this is my childhood right here and i'm only 16
Colonel Bunny isn't wrong you know, being The Chief Easter Bunny is so much more than delivering Easter eggs, it's a lot of work and it's a big job.
Just thinking about Christmas. Now it's Easter. Thank you, Rankin Bass.
One of the greatest stop motion films of all time.
I love the Rankin/Bass holiday specials as much as I do the Charlie Brown ones. Always brings a smile to my face and gives me warm memories of my childhood :)
Me too. :D I love them too ^^
Fond memories of Festival of Family Classics :-)
And to think this was WAY before Vincent Price voiced Ratigan.
Love this special back in the 1970's. This was TV
I always thought Mr. Sassafrass was the same guy as the Mailman from Santa claus comes to town.
Same
They are similar.
God, I remember watching this when I was a baby.
I Can't Come Up With A Name 100th
You know, I think they should've given Rudolph a small cameo in this during the Christmas part. That would've been awesome! It would've also been awesome if they casted Mickey Rooney as Santa again in this.
Joe Yaroch I thought so, too since they reused the reindeer from "Rudolph" and the Santa from "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town."
Joe Yaroch Kris Krangle is the same for Tod.
Trivia info: Paul Frees, who voiced Santa here, also voiced Santa in the Frosty the Snowman Christmas special in 1969, two years before this premiered.
I agree.
From what I understand, Paul Frees (who voices Santa here) was used in Rankin'/Bass specials whenever they couldn't get Mickey Rooney. This isn't the last special to do so.
Bless whoever put this video up. Thank you & Happy Easter :)
One of my favorite Rankin Bass productions and i remembered when i was 4 seeing this on Disney channel in the mid 80s and dug it. A shame Casey Kasem and Arthur Rankin Jr died last year, they will be missed and so will Vincent Price whom is my favorite actor of all time.
Wow! I miss growing up in the 90's
Lol that is hilarious this was made in the 70s kid
I'm Here To Watch This After Years Of Not Watching This
Today is July 4th and came back to watch this just for that scene.
HEY RABBIT THESE ARE NOT FIRECRACKERS
I don't know why but that's hilarious
Fourth of July is great, when Peter realizes he must improvise as Antoine tells him, becaus the Yestermorrowbile is only going to keep going forward in time.
Thank YOU so MUCH!!! I've been looking for this for many years! I just showed this to my son (he's 2) and he loves this.
Vincent Price totally stole the show as Irontail.
18:42 May be the absolute best Rankin-Bass song ever.
+DingoWalley01 I would have to agree.
The Song Of Time Travel

I used to watch this every year. Don't know why they never show it anymore. Thanks so much for posting it!
karaoketam They did air it on Cartoon Network back in 2004 and on the CW two or four years ago.
This is available on dvd every Easter at walmart. Every holiday you can find classic cartoon dvds reasonably priced at walmart. I grew up with all the rankin/bass holiday specials. The holiday wasn't the same until you watched these every year!🎃🎄 🐰
It’s was a perfect choice to put Batman villain Egg Head in as the voice of the Evil bunny Iron Tail. Vincent Price is timeless, thank you for the post and a Happy Easter 🐇🐣🐰
Thanks to the animated calendars, I know it is 1971.
Yup, that is indeed the calendar for 1971, Easter did indeed fall on April 11 then(three days before my second birthday.) That's what I like about my bday, (April 14) that it sometimes falls over Easter. In fact, last week my big 5-0 fell on Palm Sunday. Happy Easter!
@@MrJamieMurph4141969 And just to think Easter was on April Fools' Day last year in 2018, therefore Easter Fools' Day.
Another Rankin/Bass Holiday classic that the entire family can enjoy. I remember watching this when it aired, thanks for uploading.
I totally agree!!! Mr. Kaye was awesome!!! Loved him in all his movies, but White Christmas is my fav!
love this cartoon! childhood memories are wonderful and things that cannot be taken away.
Such a cute Easter treasure! I just love every minute and the voices...Vincent Price as Iron Tail and Casey Kasem as Peter. The way they go through the holidays...I wonder if Tim Burton was inspired by this one for a Nightmare Before Christmas? Wishing all a Happy Easter...chooochoo!
This has always been my favorite Easter movie everrrrrrrrr...!!!!! Every year I watch it. Since I was younger it always made me happy and I LOVED IT !!!!!
OMG! Loved this so much as a kid that I wore out the VHS tape I had this on through watching it so much. Thank you for uploading this.
I've got Bass/Rankin to thank for the fact I ended up a fan of Danny Kaye's simply through this Easter classic.
Happy Easter! Jesus is Alive and Risen! This is such a great movie with great songs!
I watched as child to enjoy all Rankin Bass Holiday specials on tv bring me back to my childhood ❤
I love Danny Kaye, awe. This is much much better than "The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town," which is just bizarre and confusing.
Yeahhhhh...
For me it's just boring.
Agree. Here Comes Peter Cottontail has an original story, The Easter Bunny Is Coming To Town is literally Santa Claus Is Coming To Town but Easter themed.
So true! Also your comment should be pinned to the top. This is so much better than the other one out at the time.
Danny Kaye deserved a thousand Oscars. Love Danny Kaye.
Omg, I wasn’t hallucinating.
Even though it was an Easter special, my favorite part of Peter Cottontail was always the Halloween segment. I used to always wish that Rankin/Bass had done a stop-motion animation special for Halloween. (Mad Monster Party lent itself to Halloween, but it wasn't ABOUT Halloween. Neither was Jack O' Lantern- Family Classics.) Many years later I finally got my wish when Disney/Touchstone released the Nightmare Before Christmas.
43:27 Oh no! Irontail and Montresaur just returned on Valentine's Day, he had the book of evil spells, read one of the pages, then turned the eggs green!
44:17 😢 Bye bye Donna. Adiós mi amor.
Translation: Goodbye, my love.
My childhood favorite show they need to put this show back on tv.
50:29 happy Easter Day!
I loved this movie as a kid!!
First Rankin Bass Easter in 1971
Growning up with a holiday classic like this brings back some happy memories. The luxury of owning them on VHS.😊 Every year on all the Holiday's i looked forward to watching all these amasing program's. The days before cable, etc.😁
It wasn't Peter going to that party which caused him to oversleep. He set his alarm so he would be up and ready in the morning, but Irontail fed the alarm clock rooster some bubble gum which made him gurgle so that Peter could hardly hear the alarm, so it was Irontail who made him miss the contest. So Irontail was cheating!
I read "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" aloud to the kids and families on Zoom last year in April 2024 if my memory serves me correctly for Storytime With Andrea as part of an Easter theme and they really loved it.
i have watched this every year for as long as i can remember. i had it downloaded to my computer, and then i deleted it one delirious night, apparently. i went back to my moms where my computer is and to no avail, it was gone. i have it on VHS but no working player. i am soooooo happy this is available! :) :) my absolute favorite!!
Not even three minutes in and I've made around eleven nasty jokes.
I need some Jesus
He could have given those green eggs away on Easter. I hear they go well with ham. (:
But there are those who will NOT eat green eggs and ham, so that would be a tough sell!
Agent1W Well they don't seem to have a problem with green eggs and corn beef!
You do not like them, so you say.
Try them, try them. And you may.
Try them and you may, I say.
Sam, if you would let me be,
I will try them. You will see.
Very clever!
Maybe to Dr. Suess or the Cat in the Hat.
wait a second!!! :O
IS THAT THE VOICE OF SHAGGY ROGERS FROM "SCOOBY DOO" VOICING PETER COTTONTAIL?! :O
It is indeed the voice of Shaggy from 'Scooby Doo' - Mr. Casey Kasem
AWESOME!!! XD
After all these years it took me this long to realize it, and to realize Iron Tail was voiced by The great Vincent Price. :3
RandomMarcus92 Well, now you know! :-)
And robin from the 70's batman cartoon
wait what?
Great memories are just pouring in...Big Smile on my face.
This is my childhood right here. I remember watching this when I was a little kid and I still have the DVD of it.
They are great! I miss this kind of animation!
Used to watch this on VCR... thanks dad for my childhood. Some of the people my age don't even know what this is. To this day I quote Irontail's lines in certain situations and I sing the Improvise song.
when irontail turned the eggs green, it reminded me of the dr seuss book "green eggs and ham"
The famous Danny Kaye , actor in t.v. and movies .He also had his own hour long show!!!!!
For some reason, I always liked these little puppet movies as a kid.
-My Dog Meows
These shows just made the holidays more special.
I remember watching this when I was little on RUclips and than for years I couldn't find it and I literally convinced myself that I made it up until now 🙌🏻
I remember this movie from when I was like 6 must've watched it a 100 times
Such a good movie
Hayden Simm It’s such a good special. Why pull it off the air at Easter?
I agree, and like someone else said, they really don't make holiday prime time specials like this anymore. They should.
Yes
I do Not Remember This but I love it Thank You Love-N-Light Blessed Be
Always enjoy the Classic Easter show. Funny watch all ages. Happy Easter.
Thank you so much for posting this. It just brings back so many wonderful memories!
I had no idea Iron tail was played by Vincent Price! I love his work!
I remember this movie when I was little I watch this on 2008 at the church to celebrate easter.
Not only is the great Vincent Price in this but Casey Kasem, The original voice of Shaggy from Scooby Doo, is the voice of Peter Cottontail.
It's all about the tradition and getting together.
One of my favorite Easter Movies still Besides the movie (It’s the Easter Beagle Charlie Brown).
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!🐰🐇⛪.
I wanted my kids to see something that would bring back easter memories when they get older, just as this movie did for me..Thanks
I love how they went right from May to July, skipping Father's Day ...lol. They even mentioned George Washington's birthday, so bogus. 😄
Thank you for posting! I want to share it with my family!
happy hoppy Easter to all 2019
Irontail's a crazy classic holiday villain isn't he?
Yup.
I was hoping you'd agree with me
You're welcome.
Yep
Thank you for posting!! I am buying this right away!!
Iron tail is my favorite character as I grow up
Same
I have waited 20 years for this moment. At last I have found it and can announce to the world via technology that never existed when I was a troubled child.
RAM THAT EASTER UP MY KEISTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is all.
I want a Styxcottontailhammer plushie.
It was very enjoyable to watch. It brought me back to my childhood.👶 👍👍👍
I remembered this special on video when I was a kid. It scared my mom as a kid. The 70's were hip.
Who's here from 2019?
No sorry I’m from 2024
This is the original version of the special as aired on ABC TV on April 4th, 1971 Carefully Fully and Digitally Restored to its Original Brilliance(The other version is the shorter version of the special) This Easter Special is Dedicated to the lives to those we've lost over 50 years after it primered on ABC in Primetime (In Loving memories of Casey Kasem, Paul Frees, Vincent Price, Danny Kaye, and Jona Gardner).
"I wonder if anyone will really want my eggs." All I could think about was Iliza Shlesinger crouched over "You want my eggs?"
Danny Kaye does great imitating Peter, Antoine, Iron Tail and Colonel Bunny's voices
***** Well he DOES do Colonel Bunny's voice if you didn't know :-)
And Antoine
ariel films inc Yep him too :-)
Iron tail is voiced by Vincent Price, RIP.
Mike Fagan I told him that already LOL
Oh my childhood oh I’m so happy to see this again I never thought I would get to watch it again
i guess for Seymour S Sassafras......life could not better be! You'd have to see the movie Court Jester to get that.
Remember watching this very few times. It still holds up! :)
I so love this it brings back so many childhood memories for me was this came on I new we were going to do something what was the surprise love you dad for my easter memories
