- There's a new destination in Southern California for modern and contemporary art lovers: the newly opened Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA). Join me for a tour inside where the art will delight, engage, and perhaps even confuse you. Exploring the $95M building itself is just as interesting as the art. OCMA is located at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, off the 405 freeway at Bristol Avenue. OCMA is open to the public for free admission with no reservations required Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday from 10 am-6 pm and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 am-8 pm.

Nice, quick tour! The sculpture outdoors on the 3rd floor is by a contemporary artist named Sanford Biggers. Since you're in Las Vegas a lot, he has a sculpture in the Aria, as part of their fine arts collection. If you've seen the fine art collection at the Aria, his is the totem-looking statue as you enter the casino from the tram side. The Aria's art collection is scattered & not very well marked. But if you head in the opposite direction from the door, you'll find another large eraser statue, similar to the small eraser statue at the OC museum. The large eraser at the aria is by husband-wife team, Coosje Van Bruggen & Claus Oldenberg (who also did the large bow & arrow sculpture on the embarcadero & the binoculars building in Venice, CA). The small eraser at ocma is by Vija Celmins. Celmins completely changed her style shortly after the eraser. There's nothing to directly tie her to Van Bruggen & Oldenburg. But it's been suggested she was influenced by Oldenburg's work from the early 60's. She created the eraser in 1967, & Oldenburg & Van Bruggen didn't even meet until 1971. So perhaps Oldenburg influenced Celmins, and Celmins influenced Van Bruggen & Oldenburg. Anyway, the original point was that you should check out Sanford Biggers at the Aria. His sculpture there is quite different from the one at ocma. And he's still a living, working artist, so you'll undoubtedly hear more about him & his work in the future. Good video!
Thanks Jasmine and for the background on Sanford Biggers!
Fascinating!
That was cool

GREAT VIDEO THANKS
I'm more of a landscape guy myself, you know, the kind of paintings Bob Ross threw together back in the day, I admire the skill and vision of the artist displays in this collection, but give me a happy little tree or 2 and I'm happy, great video non the less Chris
