Great video part one on waypoints. And better late than never. And perhaps one of the reasons people watch your channel is that you have a really wonderful ‘teaching’ style. So don’t underestimate that value. It connects with a lot of people. And that’s important as you know to be successful
Great tutorial, Russ. I just setup my first mission and discovered an interesting fact. If you setup and save a mission on an iPhone, the mission is saved on the iPhone. When I switch to my iPad, the mission isn't there.
Hi Russ You are great at teaching. I am a safety person an I took note on the setting. Hope yuo and your family are save with Covid-19. Have a great day.
Thousands tutorials on this, no one explains how to do it off line with the new smart controller. I can’t believe I have to plan tasks like the one you explain very well next to my drone in ON mode with its fan constantly running. When I finish both remote and drone are boiling hot. Indeed great drone and great features but...........
Nice work, Ross. Very informative. I've up till now, just played around a little with WP2 on my M2P - nothing for customers yet. But I see so much potential in this. I think for me it's going to fully replace using std POI, Circle and a lot of the other presets. Simply because you can direct the filming precise and get so much more interesting footage of the subject then regular flight modes.
At 2:57 it looks like you're putting way points in a yellow geozone?? I live and fly in a yellow geozone and when I try and pre-plan a flight in yellow zone it won't let me place a waypoint because I'm in that zone.....is it possible to do and if so how?? Thanks for your help.
Extraordinarily good video Russ. You do a great job of explaining and making everything very clear. Thank you for taking the time to create this video and part 2 as well.
Great information for myself. I have a Matrice 200 With gimbal and X5S camera. I have volunteered to video our local 18 golf course. Can I use what you presented on your demonstration to map all 18 holes using way points? I tried flying and videoing all 18 manually with a friend driving a golf cart and the video was jerky with lots of abrupt changes in flight directions
Ross, I had the same thing happen to me. I went out to fly some before/after waypoints and they were gone. I have the video, but not the waypoints themselves. I was shooting pre forest thinning vs post, but the area burned in a wildfire before it was thinned and now it's toast. It would have been a perfect "Why we need to thin video".
Do you need to have the drone on while setting the way points or just the controller? Is there a way of doing this on a computer than taking it into the drone?
Since this video is 2 years old, I don't know if you'll see this, but I have a question. In your settings at home, you set the No RC Signal value to "Continue task", and the Task Completed value to "Hover". Wouldn't this mean that if your waypoint was out of RC signal range, it would continue to the waypoint, and then stay there where it can't reconnect? Would it do a fail-safe RTH when the battery got low? Otherwise, how would you get it back?
I know im a little late there but i notice when i pull up my waypoints. I dont have the 4 icons in the middle. I have the 5 on the right. I do i get that. I have a mavic pro alpine white thx. PLUS I have all the latest updates.
Hi Russ, thank you for this video, very new to Mavic 2 Pro and still learning. One question, what happens if there is an obstacle between two set pints, for exapmple a small hill between point1 and point 2 ? Thank you
Hi and thanks for many great videos. I have a mavic pro and am very happy with it, but why can dji not upgrade the software in waypoint to and work as it does with mavic pro 2 this should not be a big problem.
I encountered before drone arrriving the 1st. way point. RC signal lost. Mission had already set to continue the task. I had no confidence. so I abundant the mission and pressed RTH. If RC had lost signal how can it still communicate with Drone to receive the signal to tell the drone RTH. Please advise.
Seems like with recent update I can now pre-plan and save missions in warning geozones that it wouldn't let perform before update....I could do it while flying but not until then. Good update!
not sure if I have waypoints 2.0 because I don't see these features when I try to make missions. I purchased a Mavic air 2s last year and although I have used waypoints a few times, it tends to be difficult to manage. If a mission runs longer than the battery, can you have the drone continue the mission from the last known point? I'm trying to document the installation of a disc golf course and my troubleshooting days are getting numerous.
Are all these preplanned waypoint settings available in the Air 2S? I don’t recall seeing them if so. Just now realizing this video is 3 years old! 🤦🏾♂️
I am trying to do a daytime to nighttime video flying the same path with waypoints. I've done this 3 times at the same location, on 3 separate days, and in post, they just don't line up. They look like they are flying the same path, but when I overlay the videos and turn the opacity down to see how they line up, the start of the path is good (not perfect), but as it goes around the thing I'm trying to fly, it gets WAY off. Why?
Hi I'm new to your comments but I have a mavic pro and I'm using a Google pixel 3xl as my phone for the mavic. I am unable to set the waypoints ahead of time. The app keeps telling me I have to takeoff in order to enter waypoints flight mode. Yet you claim that these can be set before you even go to the location. I have no problems doing this with litchi but I can't view my recorded videos with litchi. I have to go back into go4 to view what I have recorded to see if the footage is any good or not. If I could do the pre-planned missions in go4 it could save me some hassle. What am I doing wrong?
Good tutorial. Very helpful. Question: where is the TaskLibrary saved --- on the SD card or the Drone's own memory? Is there a way to backup the TaskLib ?
Can you create a flight plan save it and load it when at a new location? Then go to another location and load the plan? I want to take photos of rooftops with the same pattern of passes and be able to stitch together multiple videos from different locations but same flight path and angles. Is this possible?
You still have to power up your drone and waste battery power to pre-plan a waypoint mission though. Other brands of quadcopter allow this to be done external to the quadcopter and then load it on when it suits. Even a home made quadcopter running Inav firmware allows this.
Russ great channel you have and very informative. I have tried using waypoints 2.0 on my mavic 2 pro. Can you tell me how to make it not stop at each waypoint but kept flying in a smooth flight action. Thanks
How do you record the monitor screen while flying the Mavic 2 Pro? I would like to watch the flight screen info back on video, is this possible? If so, would you know how to set this up or where to find it if it’s already doing this? Thank you very much.
So two questions I have. 1. In order to design your preplanned route using waypoints 2.0, you need to have the drone powered up along with the remote? You can't do it from one of DJI's website and save it under your username? 2. One thing I noticed when I tried it myself (I was using my DJI smart controller and not the original remote with my phone connected to it) yesterday, I could not see the map of the area I was at. After thinking about it for a while, I realize that for the smart controller I needed a internet connection. If you are using the smart controller do you agree with that? When I turned on my wifi hotspot on my phone, I was able to see the map of the area where I was at flying my drone. And probably one last thing. for the arc flight mode, does the entire designed route have to be in that mode if selected, or can I select segments of my route to fly in that mode? Thanks!!
Thanks so much for all your videos! My question = can a saved route be shared or sent? Here is my scenario, i want to pre-plan on my wifes ipad, then send file to the non-sim iphone used to fly.
Hi Ross!! I’m trying to make drone hyperlapse on construction site, (over 2 years) but i’m not sure the result will be good because there are a lot of variables, such as gps… i’m not sure the saved path will be always followed at the same way because of gps… please if you can help me would be really appreciate
One question regarding waypoints 2.0 and the Mavic 2 Pro: I've made a 9-point plan with my drone flying towards and over a small hill with a castle on top. When I first made the plan my homepoint (and standpoint) was at the bottom of the hill. Yesterday I was on the top of the hill while initiating the same flightplan. And I also did som changes to the plan regarding heights of the different waypoints. So this got me thinking.. The drone usually seem to calculate height related to my homepoint, so how does it calculate when it does flightplans? GPS altitude? (or else my startpoint would be at approx -30m) My original plan is starting at 30m/100feet and ascending to 80m/250ft over the hill which is about 60m/200ft. - I'm not sure.. but it felt like it went a bit higher than that when I initiated the plan from the top of the hill yesterday. One other thing. The RTH function was spot on yesterday! However it was about 10feet off during landing until it was about 10feet above ground, then I'm guessing optical sensing kicked in and adjusted the final. Pretty cool! Thanks for a bunch of useful information on your channel! I started flying my drone in april, so still fairly new.
Great video. Do you know if you can enter waypoints using coordinates instead of selecting on the map? Also, if you can display coordinates you could protect against loss of the mission by screen shot or writing them down.
I am new to tech. Where do you get the map to set the waypoints on from? Is this something that only works on the Smartcontroller, or can I get it on the small tablet I use for flying in a tablet holder on the standard controller? I cannot find the maps in the DJI app.
So, still learning. After watching these two vids on the waypoint feature in my M2P, I wanted to try it to photograph/video a group of rabid bicycling friends. I went to a location where they were going to ride up, and then down, a long moderately steep hill. Got there in plenty of time to fly my drone up and down the road (hill) and went into waypoint mode, mapping out 4 waypoints for the route. I did this because, I have learned, the M2P apparently does not have terrain following, or height above ground for following up or down a hill. I put in a start point and three waypoints as I flew the M2P up the hill, adjusting it's height above the roadway at each waypoint. I figured I'm good at this stage and decided to do a test run before the bikes came. Did I mention that part of the waypoint route is under a partial tree canopy? Can you see where this is going? Not considering these two options or the fact that the last waypoint in my flight plan was probably about 12-15 feet higher than the starting point, I hit the 'go' button. The M2P immediately started back to the starting waypoint, at it's last altitude AGL, at breakneck speed. I watched as it quickly approached some low hanging branches, braking just inches away but, then proceeding into the leaves. Panicked, I hit the cancel button, as I listened to the props making weedwacker type noises, chopped leaves being blown to the ground. I fully expected the M2P to crash to the ground but, it didn't. It hovered in place and I was able to gently maneuver it backwards, out of the tree and land in place. Luckily, no apparent damage to the drone or the props. After my heart went back down from my throat to my chest, I quickly looked around to see if anyone had seen my folly. One of those moments when I was grateful that I was out in the 'boonies' here in New Hampshire. Sharing this for two reasons. One, hopefully someone will learn from it. (I can't be the only one who's done this before, can I?) Second, I'll gratefully accept any comments/feedback anyone has to offer.
If the point of interest is set to the center of the object you're rotating around why is it better to use the method you described versus using a point of interest to focus on as you make the pass going from one waypoint to another.
Waypoints 2.0 looks very useful. I can think of many "projects" to record over time. I wish it would come to the Mavic Pro Platinum!! Thanks for the informative video...
Stefan Kowalewski I have the Platinum and the M2P. Use Litchi. Been using it for over 2 years. Never had an issue. You can preprogram your mission on a laptop using Litchi Mission Hub, so much easier than your phone or tablet. Modify the mission on site, save the mission back to the cloud. I have hundreds of missions I can re fly when on holidays in Thailand several times per year. I have not used Go4 since I got Litchi except to calibrate the IMUs
Thanks for posting making the vid it’s very helpful. When you set the height is that set 200ft above ground level or from where you take off from? Thanks
I was just wondering to know if it is possible to take still photos while mavic 2 pro is in video mode at waypoint 1? will it disengagte the video or will continue recording?
In this whole mission, the drone is flying sideways and ends up flying backwards. Does your drone have side and rear obstacle avoidance? Unless you know the area, you may want to fly a test mission without using POI.
Russ, I wish I knew why DJI can't add WayPoints 2.0 to the old fashion Mavic Pro Platinum that I have owned just over a year. Many of us can not afford to buy every new drone that DJI puts out. As it is now I use Litchi WayPoints which for the most part IS DJI Waypoints 2.0. It just feels like they are holding back on the "old" Mavics on purpose. I'm still going to watch your tutorials anyway but bothered by the fact that I don't have it.
@@chrisross1906 Chris, buy Litchi, it is better. It cost around $20 I believe and is worth every penny. You can set up Waypoints at home and then drive to the site and run the program. Just make sure your height is set right. The Pano takes 52 pictures in auto. All you have to do is click the start button. Lots more. It really is worth having it in your kit.
If the flight direction is set to "Route," can the camera swing left and/or right (using a finger to move the blue circle on the screen)? Flying sideways seems inefficient, even if this is a helicopter.(Which intelligent flight modes allow this?)
I still say Litchi is a more superior app. The fact that I can sit in front of my computer and plan flights, then download them to my ipad and load them once I'm onsite to the drone, makes it a much more user friendly app.

Thanks Jenna. I truly appreciate that!
Great Video Russ!! I haven't had the chance to play with Way points yet, But Now I have a good Idea on how to do it. Thanks for posting.
I would love to have this added to the Phantom 4 Pro V2. I think I could use it quite frequently. Also great in depth, on how to use it.
Such an easy to understand tutorial, thanks again Russ. I think I will find it very useful. Best wishes to everyone.
Great tutorial, Russ. I just setup my first mission and discovered an interesting fact. If you setup and save a mission on an iPhone, the mission is saved on the iPhone. When I switch to my iPad, the mission isn't there.
Thank you Russ for reminding me just how awesome this drone is!
Thanks Russ
Very informative.. As a safety factor. Helicopters fly over freeways to reduce noise impact over urban areas.
Hi Russ You are great at teaching. I am a safety person an I took note on the setting. Hope yuo and your family are save with Covid-19. Have a great day.

Get Litchi. You can plan all kinds of missions on your PC at home with the included Mission Hub .
Point a small fan toward your drone
Great tutorial. Perfect application for our new multi-year construction project. Thank you!

Great introductory video on way points 2.0
Great video Russ. The explanation was spot on and easy to follow. Wish it was available on my magic platinum.

Am almost thinking of going Litchi with all the latest issues with Go4 app lately as still can’t get it sorted out since updated. Great job Russ btw!!
Chuck Miller, I prefer Litchi. It does a better job and you can plan a mission without connecting to the drone.
Ethan Mitchell what is this “Litchi”? I’m a new drone owner and have heard this a few times now. Does this work with the Mavic 2 Pro? Thx
@@tundrawhisperer4821 is litchi any good with the dji spark
Paul Oscroft sorry, not familiar with this.
Does Litchi work with the Air 2S?

so is that feature in the Mavic pro Platinum? I have not flown my drone for a long time
No.
Great job explaining the process! Thanks!
Very interesting. I might play with waypoints soon before my next trip
Do you need to have the drone on while setting the way points or just the controller? Is there a way of doing this on a computer than taking it into the drone?
You program this to the drone, not the computer
Hi Russ, great tutorial. Hope they give to the Mavic Pro Platinum!
Thanks for this excellent tutorial! But I wonder if I can use Waypoint 2.0 with Mavic Pro (first generation)?
Since this video is 2 years old, I don't know if you'll see this, but I have a question. One question regarding waypoints 2.0 and the Mavic 2 Pro:

Good point, but no, you can't set it by coordinates.
Definitely would use it. Are they fasing out the magic pro since the 2 came out. I haven't seen very many up dates for the original Mavic

hi friend, do you know if this app is compatible with MINI 2?

Can one set up a flight path and let it go off and fly beyond the remote range and return again?

Can you set up waypoints or a fligt plan with gps co-coordinates?
Can you do this for hyperlapse waypoinylt and save a mission?
Hello. Does anybody know if it's possible to use Waypoints 2.0 in the smart controller with the phantom 4 pro v2?
@@Mark.Brindle Thank you! I will definitely give it a try.
Thank you for these videos. I'd like to know how to reorder Waypoints. Adding a new one is going to the end of the Route.
Thanks for posting making the vid it’s very helpful. When you set the height is that set 200ft above ground level or from where you take off from? Thanks
From take off point.
@@51Drones what if you needed to set it higher than 201ft as you did, or is that the max height from takeoff allowed??
Satallite view not showing? how can I select an address as a starting point?
Hi, Does it work with the mini ? thanks for the video help
Great Video !
Is Waypoint 2.0 available for Phantom 4 Pro V2 Sir?
Hey Russ, I was wondering if there was a way to transfer waypoints I created on my iPad to my iPhone?
Hey 51 Drones, does the aircraft has to be on?
I was just wondering to know if it is possible to take still photos while mavic 2 pro is in video mode at waypoint 1? will it disengagte the video or will continue recording?
Can't do both at the same time.
Can you program Hyperlapse Waypoints in the same way?
That is informative. Thanks.
When you program it at home, how do you know what height is safe from wires, etc?
I think it's important to be familiar with the area before programming.
Hi Russ, I am interested on how I delete a mission completely (in name also) from the Task library?
So I assume obstacle avoidance is still on, using this mode? (In case you have a wrong altitude programmed..)
Yes
I have the same sentiments. Was trying every way to get the WayPoints 2.0.. Very annoying.
@@StanCook Thanks for the advice.
@@StanCook this works with mav pro?
@@poisonallen If you are talking about Litchi, yes it will.
Thank you! Very helpful
If the flight direction is set to "Route," can the camera swing left and/or right (using a finger to move the blue circle on the screen)? Flying sideways seems inefficient, even if this is a helicopter.(Which intelligent flight modes allow this?)
Russ, great content as per usual. Have you completed the progression video of the construction project? We are coming up on the 2 year mark.
Will this work on mavic pro the original
I still say Litchi is a more superior app. The fact that I can sit in front of my computer and plan flights, then download them to my ipad and load them once I'm onsite to the drone, makes it a much more user friendly app.
Great vid, does this work on the Air 2?
Thanks for the great video
How many missions can you save in the dji go 4 app?
I am so frustrated I did everything but when I push go nothing happens. What could I be missing
