They almost didn't make it commercialy at the beginning. Black radio stations that played rythm and blues didn't want to play them cause they were white. White radio stations didn't want to play them cause they sounded black. They persevered and eventually broke that color divide..... music is color blind.
This man can SING! This is the best of blue-eyed soul! Bobby has an amazing voice. I believe he's got a 4 octave range! Remember....no autotune or tricky studio gimmicks at that time....just pure raw talent! ...and yes he was underrated imho. Loved your reaction .
Sweet handsome talented and soulful Bobby Hatfield. He never disappoints. Underrated? Absolutely. Blue eyed soul at its finest. Thank you for your sincere reaction. Check out his solo My Prayer and them doing You'll never walk alone together.
You hit that nail on the head yes he was underrated you never heard anything really good back in the day I was there not with him watching him but I'm 89 years old so I was around at that time I mean yeah the name Bobby Hatfield was not real popular the name Righteous Brothers somewhat popular and then the Beatles come over here and squash that out. Thanks very good reaction I'll be looking you up again.🤩
Bobby Hatfield didn't "also" sing "Unchained Melody." He OWNED it. As half of the Righteous Brothers with Bill Medley (or "Willie," as he called him in this video), Bob and Bill were the duo for whom the term "blue eyed soul" was coined. You really need to hear them together to understand what the phenomenon truly was. Check out their hit, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin." (Find the black and white video where the two of them are in silhouette at the beginning.) They were phenomenal alone, but together they were pure magic.
Mine, too. I have been renewing my memories of The Righteous Bros. I was around 10 years old when they first got into the entertainment field. To make a long story short, I appreciate their voices more now. Bobby is my fav male singer. People don't appreciate the range he had. Not only the range, but control of his voice, fantastic!
Bobby not only had range and control but he had passion. He felt every word he sang and in turn so did the listeners. He was a phenomenal singer and person. Miss you Bobby.
Not a video but a solo recording of Bobby Hatfield singing "Ebbtide". Take a listen. His amazing voice & the emotions he puts into singing makes you envision going in and out with the tide. The other songs suggested to hear both brothers are a must hear. I also like both of them on the Ed Sullivan TV show singing "You'll Never Walk Alone". R&B has always been my music. I came from the Chicago area. To find out these guys were from Orange County CA surprised me. Back in the 60's I pictured peeps from there only liked Beach Boy type of music. I was so wrong. I even made my friend, who had moved to CA where her family had moved to, play the radio for me long distance as I wouldn't even visit her in 1967 if they didn't listen to good music in CA. By the way I ended up staying in CA 56 yrs & counting. The Righteous Brothers had so much soul. Bill loved Blues & Bobby Doo Wop. Combine that together & you get the dynamic duo The Righteous Brothers. They were inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. I'm really enjoying your reactions to them.
There was never anyone like Bobby. And never will be. He is sorely missed, but I hear him every day. Together Bob and Bill were the best! You gotta hear "I Just Wanna make Love To You." That one's mostly Bill, with Bobby jumping in for a few bars. Blow you away! But there's another one by Bobby, he recorded when he was older. It received no recognition, but IMHO, one of his best. Check out "Stay With Me." Bobby has been gone for 20 years. But he left us his music. Bill is still touring with another partner, he will be 83 in a few days. You should check out their performance at their induction into the RnR Hall of Fame, just 8 months before Bobby's death. Voices changes a lot, but it is considered one the best performances on that show, ever.
This why The Righteous Brothers were called "blue-eyed soul". xGreat!! Now you need to hear Bill and Bobby sing I Just Want To Make Love To You. ruclips.net/video/Udyqprq46b0/видео.html
This is from what is often considered the first black American musical/opera, composed by composer George Gershwin, with a libretto written by author DuBose Heyward and lyricist Ira Gershwin. It was adapted from Dorothy Heyward and DuBose Heyward's play Porgy, itself an adaptation of DuBose Heyward's 1925 novel of the same name. It's held on for a century and continues to have revivals and productions across the world. So many great songs
Try Brìnĝ it on home to me, Dream on, come on. Somewhere, my Prayer, Guess Who, so many and all terrific. You ŵill see how Bobby lifted their songs into the extraordinary, the great.
When Bobby hit some high notes, you just seem to turn to stone.😂 There are a few of his Unchained Melodys floating around. The best one was him on the Andy Williams show. He was dressed in a pink suit.
You should listen to Bobby doing "Stay With Me". There's no video that I've seen but there is a RUclips recording. It's a great song to hear his voice and what he can do with it. He was absolutely amazing.
Fantastic performance by a first rate singer. It was a strange time, but these guys were color blind, like Elvis was, like Janis was. This song comes from the American opera Porgy and Bess, about the black experience on plantations, written by a color blind Jew, George Gershwin. The most gifted artists from all sides are color blind
Yes Melvin, love Bobby's version of this classic, puts his own spin on it. What a god given blessed voice. He is dearly missed. He was a counter tenor, with such a fantastic range of octaves that could reach g5.
You had mentioned Elvis singing unchained melody, actually bobby did that same song 25 years earlier (1965) live performance on Andy Williams show. No autotune in that era, just his natural beautiful voice, with the Andy Williams NBC orchestra in the background. His range of octaves to this day will never be matched. Perhaps other artists have done that version of the song, they may have used the autotune feature that came out in the 90' s. The artists that comes to mind in the 50' s is Ray Hamilton, Al Hibber. Bobby did put his own spin own that song, it is his, always will be.

White radio stations didn't want to play them cause they sounded black. They persevered and eventually broke that color divide..... music is color blind.
Blue-eyed soul at it's best, for sure❣
Yes, Bobby was under rated! He did not get the respect from the industry that he deserved!
60 year old music. Let that sink in. Thanks for hearing them.

That backing brass, though! Great arrangement that served his voice well.

Channeling soul baby!

The best rendition I've ever heard! Bar none.
My favorite male singer of all time! RIP Bobby Hatfield.

Bobby was one of those rare "Blonde white skinned black guys "......blue eyed soul at its best.
SO DOPE!! Whew! Can Bobby sing or what??? 😮❤
Bobbie could dark as dark and he was accepted and respected.

❤i think these reaction videos make older folks appreciate younger ones and young folks respect and appreciate us ancient guys and gals.
God given talent live no one else blessed still have the past he was a role model like the dinosaur now extinct!

❤❤❤You should try Unchained melody and You Lost That Loving Feeling next if you like them!!
You sure hear "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" Soul and Inspiration" or "What'd I Say" both sung live by the Righteous Brothers ❤❤❤❤
Try Brìnĝ it on home to me, Dream on, come on. Somewhere, my Prayer, Guess Who, so many and all terrific. You ŵill see how Bobby lifted their songs into the extraordinary, the great.
This was amazing, eh? Bobby had severe stage fright, and it’s my impression that he channeled that energy throughout his entire body. ❤️
Great version !!
Bobby could go from þhat to Somèwĥerè or My PRAYEŔ In a blink

They remade this and a band named Sublime sings this, it was redone.
This is a Ella Fitzgerald song, circa 1952.
Ella was one of thè greatest- Sarah Vaughn another. Gladys Knight and the Pips and the magnificent ArethaFranklin!
