Born in 88 saw the exorcist when I was 5 and just about every Hellraiser, Friday, Nightmare and Halloween by the time I was 9ish..My parents were pretty cool. And Titanic is one of the greatest love stories of all time. No bullshit. Lol
Something that always bothered me about this movie is that Rose moves on after the sinking, gets married, has children and grandchildren but when she dies at the end (SPOILER) she meets Jack in the afterlife. Is her husband out there waiting for her somewhere while she's catching up with that dude she banged on that one cruise she took? The hell, man?
Brian De Palma's "Phantom of the Paradise 1974" & Peter Jacksons "Meet the Feebles 1989" come on brotha let's go. Darth Vader costume copy's Phantom and Meet the Feebles is one of the greatest movies ever made 😁
The "fat guy" was actually one of the technicians that worked the subs in real-life and apparently he made Jim Cameron laugh, so he wrote the role with him in mind.
Lewis Abernathy is just a generally cool guy in real life. It is really amusing though that he is pretty much the embodiment of every nineties movie's idea of what adult nerds are like.
Tony's critique of the movie nailed this episode for me. I was laughing so hard when I listened to it. As time goes on, we learn more and more about the Titanic and urban legends give way to new stories. Apparently, Milton Hershey and his wife Catherine had also made plans to be on the Titanic but changed them to leave ahead of schedule and on a different boat.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson criticized the movie for using the wrong sky on the night of the sinking. They took it to heart and corrected it in subsequent releases. The Titanic didn't sink, it was just late, as seen in Ghostbusters 2!
I remember huge row of people standing in line in the movie theater to buy a ticket for Titanic and outside insane storm+rain going on, it actually flooded the street and the water was rising in the hallway of the theater and I was like "Everybody run we are sinking!" nobody laugh... I don't know why.
@@auneakeffect I'd say it's pretty rare. The oldest friend I keep in touch with is somebody I've known since 9th grade. I bought a copy of Evil Dead 2 from a rental store when I was a kid. It wasn't even available at a normal store to purchase at the time. When I got home and watched it was a homemade movie of a breached birth...then it turned into olympic skiing. Someone had peeled the label off of evil dead 2 and put it on their homemade tape. I went back to the store and they didn't believe me. So we put the tape in the VHS in the kid's section. The whole store got to hear that breached birth. One of my favorite memories lol.
Jonathan Hyde was both the dad and the hunter in Jumanji. BTW, Tony's assessment of Rose reminds me of the Titanic skit on Saturday Night Live when Bill Paxton hosted
*FUN FACT:* Jack's hands in close-ups are actually James Cameron's hands, as were the drawings. *FACT 2:* Most of movie Titanic is a physical set that could be sunk and re-sunk as required. *FACT 3:* Movie Titanic takes the exact same amount of time to sink as the real ship did. *FACT 4:* Ismay asking the Captain to go faster was reported by some passengers, but not 100% confirmed.
3: No, but the dilation is way less drastic than in earlier films like _A Night To Remember._ 4: Only one passenger claimed that, which would be strange, since the place where that conversation was said to have happened would have been somewhat busy at the time it was supposed to have occurred, and there weren't many places to sit where one couldn't hear other tables' conversations. Every single thing Ismay did during and after the disaster would seem to paint him as an _exceptionally_ prudent and compassionate employer, and there is no hard evidence to suggest that he ever attempted to use his office as director to influence the actual sea commanders when they were on-duty. His family and personal background at sea would have instilled in him a proper sense of respect for captains and their officers.
Tony, I share your enthusiasm for James Cameron. He's a total megalomaniac and probably a pain in the ass to work with, but results are what matters and Jim ALWAYS brings it 100 percent. He's an uncompromising genius and I love him. Haha.

I’m so glad this movie came out before social media and even the early days of the internet. I think the movie still holds up and is a classic (yes it’s cheesy in parts). A portion of social media would have ripped it shreds in 1997-98 and would have tainted it like everything in pop culture today.

I was in college when this movie came out. I asked out one of my classmates from my legal class. She wanted to go to the movies, me being the gentleman I said what movie would you like to see? The other option was deep rising. She picked this film. Probably 40 minutes into the film she fell asleep. I think I dozed off. Neither of us liked the film and after it was over when I asked her if she wanted to do anything else she said she wanted to go back home she was tired. We took her own cars, and while I was standing there in the parking lot frustrated because it was my first date in years, I passed two close friends who were going in - to see deep rising. Next time I saw her in class, I asked her out for a second date, and she told me she would like to but she was going back to her home country after the semester. A year later, I was driving from my home to work, and passed her jogging up the road, I waved and she waved back but looked kind of startled like she was caught. So this movie killed my first date in years, to say the least I have nothing in the way of fun memories. And all joking aside, I really don't think it was that good a movie. Titanic is on 4k HDR now, in 2.35:1 . Or if you have a working 3D TV or projector, the older 3D bluray release is 1.78 aspect ratio.
