It's always nice to see another gamer's list of favorite games and every game in your list is excellent. The great thing about lists like this are that there are no bad selections because the list represents an individual gamer's subjective preferences. Here is my top 10 for the Genesis: 01 Phantasy Star IV 02 Shining Force II 03 Castlevania Bloodlines 04 Beyond Oasis 05 Landstalker 06 Light Crusader 07 Phantasy Star II 08 Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master 09 Gain Ground 10 Shining Force
I"m admittedly more a Nintendo kid, but I've always respected what the Genesis brought to the table. As for my personal favorite games on the console.... 5) Sonic the Hedgehog 3/Knuckles (Best Sonic game, period) 4) Thunder Force IV (This game might as well be Macross the shmup) 3) Ranger X (Greatest run 'n gun mecha game next to Assault Suit Leynos 2 on the Saturn) 2) MUSHA (Greatest Gundam shmup that is anything but) 1) Phantasy Star IV (My personal favorite game on the Genesis)
We originally got the Genesis because SFII was not out yet on SNES and they just came out with Sonic and bundled it with the Genesis at a lower price than the SNES package cost. We got the SNES not long after though, about a year later about a month before SFII came out which is when I played through and beat Super Mario World. SNES became the main console until Mortal Kombat came out at which point I would go back and forth between both consoles. I also became a fan of Eternal Champions and would get pretty much every Sonic release. Genesis was always able to keep up with SNES and I always loved both consoles!
A nice advantage of the Genesis is its arcade like architecture that made it easier for a lot of arcade developers to port and make original games for the console. A lot of earlier SNK ports were better on Genesis until they started to figure out how to exploit SNES' strengths.
man even the games that didn't make the cut were some definite bangers! 11:15 its me LOL! Gunstar Heroes is easily my favorite Genesis game ever. It's rare that I'm able to beat any of Treasure's games (especially after both Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun, oof!!) but getting to the end was quite the accomplishment! especially given how long the second half of the game is. a close second for me is probably SOR2, fun beat-em-up and an amazing soundtrack!! but most of the other picks here would probably have made my list as well, no doubt.
No Shinobi!? Shinobi 3 is still my all time favorite on the console. Good list though I had almost all the others just in different order. Also, General Chaos has what I would consider the best co-op on the system (base single player is more of an rts type).
1) Shinobi III 2) Castle of Illusion 3) Phantasy Star IV 4) Sonic 2 5) Theme Park 6) Streets of Rage 7) Fire Shark 8) Eternal Champions 9) Ayrton Senna Super Monaco GP2 10) Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Definitely would've picked Lightening Force (Thunder Force IV) over MUSHA, and probably would've had Vectorman somewhere in there. Not sure I would've gone with Sonic 3, but making a Top 10 list for the Genesis makes my head hurt. So many amazing games... God, I f***ing love the Sega Genesis.
I'm not a Castlevania fan but even I like messing with Bloodlines... I think I prefer. its more stylish graphics compared to most of them, though Symphony of the Night one also looks good!
Ironically Sonic 3 is the only one I didn't get or get into. I think that's because I got my fill from Sonic & Knuckles and loved being able to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2!
Its insane that once cel shading was established we never got another Comix Zone. It could have started off 2D and covered the adaptation of the comic into an animated movie (and 3D), the characters and writer (you) being dragged along for the ride, with the enemy having trapped you due to being aware their world was about to change and deciding they had been cancelled. It could have been awesome! They could have retconned a CZ ending where he agreed with the big enemy that he will care for and look after their world, meaning the adaptation changing everything (things begin to disappear, change art style as random objects turn 3D on the 2d page before the big change at the end of the intro pages) which makes the enemy feel he has gone back on this. Theres a rom hack of Comix Zone that makes it a lot easier and more fun.
Man, seeing Hyperstone Heist again takes me back, even if it is an honorable mention and not on the list proper (me and my little sister would beat the whole game every morning before school, we loved it so much). I don't know if I have a single favorite Genesis game, so many good ones I played as a kid (and many I didn't).
@@arostwocents --- I honestly don't remember. We didn't have much time in the morning even racing through our breakfast and brushing, but I'd say the game with two practiced players is well under 30 minutes. Haven't watched a speedrun of it but I'm sure there's one on RUclips if you want to really know.
I missed this when it came out. You have a great list of awesome games. But to me the Genesis was and will always be a sports console. NHL ‘94 might just be the greatest game ever. Madden? Bill Walsh? Tommy Lasorda or Tony LaRussa? So many great Genesis sports games.
So I'm told, but I've never had any interest in sports games that weren't explicitly arcade games, NBA Jam for example, I've always been an action game kind of guy
Great seeing old Sega Mega Drive games that really made me want to buy a Sega system years ago! My favorites of all time are Contra: Hard Corps, Batman & Robin, Sonic 3, Bare Knuckle 2, & others here!
Fun fact: I noticed that when Earthworm Jim becomes truncated to the initialism “EWJ”, you’re actually pronouncing two more syllables. Therefore the shortened “EWJ” requires more effort to pronounce than its full form, Earthworm Jim.
S3&K's best platformer of the 16-bit era. SOR 2 beat beat em up of the 16-bit era. Gunstar Heroes best run and gun of the 16-bit era. Not mentioned Beyond Oasis best action rpg of the 16-bit era. Shinobi III best action platformer of the 16-bit era. Thunder Force IV best shooter of the 16-bit era. Absolutely stacked library of games.
Yeah, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my top pick for the Genesis...with Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master a close second. P.S. Super Mario World is the greatest game ever made...period.
Of course, it is impossible to mention all the games… Super Monaco Grand Prix, Lanstalker, Shining Force, Wonderboy in Monster World or a game like FLASHBACK. I really had good time on my Megadrive.😊
Well, I looked, and all of these, including the honourable mentions, I got in my ROMs folder. My dad didn't have much Genesis or MegaDrive games, mostly SegaCD games, and I've not explored those games all that much yet. However, the one I did play, which I think dad got with the system was Sonic 2, and did enjoy that, so think I'll have that be the answer to your question.
Você está de parabéns, pela primeira vez, vi uma lista de respeito! Você realmente conhece e joga Mega Drive (Sega Genesis). Eu só colocaria Vectorman 1 no lugar de Musha. Meu top 10 seria: 1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles 2. Streets of Rage 2 3. Comix Zone 4. Earthworm Jim 5. Castlevania Bloodlines 6. Vectorman 7. Thunder Force IV 8. Adventures Batman and Robin 9. Beyond Oasis 10. Road Rash 2 Menções honrosas: Contra Hard Corps, Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 3, Shinobi 3, TMNT Hyperstone Heinst, Ristar, X-Men 2 Clone Wars e Strider. Nao podemos esquecer dos jogos novos: Xenocrisis Demons of Asteborg Astebros Earthion Paprium Life on Mars Life on Earth Real Bout FF Special
I gotta say, Contra Hard Corp is so cool. The skill ceiling is high, but practice definitely pays off. I was able to 1CC 2 of the 4 routes, and it is so satisfying. I like it much better than Gunstar Heroes, and I think everyone should just give in to the 1 hit death version.
Hello Mad Panic Gaming. My name is Isaiah and I have something important to say to you. God loves you and like any father he wants to help you and keep you safe especially from the devil. But I am not just speaking to you about this I am also talking to your fans about this. God loves you all and he wants us all to be saved. Do not be afraid to come to the Lord. For God's love is for evreyone. Shalom Shalom.
I love these lists. I always end up with a few new titles on my ever growing “to play” list. This was especially good for me, the Sega consoles were not at all popular in Australia. Nearly everyone I knew had a console, and none of them had a Genesis so I never had the chance to play most of these titles. Looking forward to the next one!
Awhh yess finally some love for Earthworm jim ❤ that game I feel gets some undeserved hate for its difficulty but take the time to learn it and it's one of the best genesis games my personal favourite
Thanks for watching, everyone! Be sure to drop a like if you enjoyed the video, and let me know what your favorite Genesis/Mega Drive games are!
I’m surprised Shinobi III didn’t at least get an honorable mention, especially since this list has so many action platformers and run n guns.

04 Beyond Oasis
05 Landstalker
06 Light Crusader
07 Phantasy Star II
08 Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
09 Gain Ground
10 Shining Force
I think there COULD be bad selections, if he listed 5 Maddens and 5 FIFAs, with honourable mentions 5 hockey and 5 basketball games 😂
I"m admittedly more a Nintendo kid, but I've always respected what the Genesis brought to the table. As for my personal favorite games on the console....

also worth mentioning: Mega Turrican, Mr Nutz, Aladdin, Tiny Toons, Mega Bomberman...

Man id LOVE to find an EWJ figure at a carboot. The cartoon is great to watch as an adult, being from before the time kids cartoons were mind numbing.
Such a good video. All the games are, as you said, awesome. They are really art. I loved Flashback in the time.
Choosing between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles is nigh impossible 🤷♂️
Half my list would have been Sonic games - the other would be Mortal Kombat, plus the original Jurassic Park game, lol.
Man, seeing Hyperstone Heist again takes me back, even if it is an honorable mention and not on the list proper (me and my little sister would beat the whole game every morning before school, we loved it so much). 😮 how long does the game take to beat? It's really that easy?

Nice list. But where's Golden Axe?

I'm a huge Sonic 2 fan. I can't forget taking a month to get. good enough to unlock Super Sonic without cheating when I was a kid.
Hello Jim! How's it going sir?!
Notable omissions from my personal Genesis/Megadrive top 10:
Herzog Zwei
Phantasy Star IV
Monster World IV
Thunderforce III
Puyo Puyo Tsu

aha the leather jacket, so true

No techno soft? No Thunder force??😮😮😮😮😮😮 No phantasy star 4😮😮😮😮😮😮
Midnight Resistance, Desert Strike and Ghouls and Ghosts are my favorites.
No action/shmup top 10 is complete without Thunder Force IV and Shinobi 3. Not even a honorable mention, psh.
Phantasy Star 4, Shinobi 3 and Ristar are the ones I missed the most from the list. But it'll always be a challenge to do a SEGA Genesis top 10.
Boogerman> Earthworm Jim... I do not get why most prefer Earthworm Jim.

I love watching Retro gaming stuff On RUclips and I’ve seen lists of top 10 Sega Genesis games and this is the best list of them all, hands down.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles definitely no.1 worth, especially since the S&K cart allowed you to slap on Sonic 2 and play as Knuckles!
i would put rocket knight in there and a few others...cool list nonetheless
I love these lists. I always end up with a few new titles on my ever growing “to play” list.

Great list, sonic 2 is one of my favorites. Nobody ever mentions Ghouls n Ghosts in genesis top ten videos. It's my favorite by a mile.
Awhh yess finally some love for Earthworm jim ❤ that game I feel gets some undeserved hate for its difficulty but take the time to learn it and it's one of the best genesis games my personal favourite
Great list, and same here as a kid never heard of rocket knight adventures. Seems a great game but one not very known at our time perhaps.
Speedball 2 brutal deluxe... as a kid i was obsessed good times
Does no one give props to dune for paving the way toward decent rts??
cool list, the only one i don't like is streets of rage.. that game series is overrated imo
Need more Japan hunts let’s go
best beatem up better be punisher and nick fury
Great Stuff, as always!
5:38 top 10 list starts
The good old days .
