I halve down sindrome and I try to help every one that I can help some times I help my neghbor bring her gorcery bags in from the store. and I shovel snow in the winter time. People think we are stupid but our brains just work different. Most of us just want to help people, but they cant see pass our looks or speech.
It warms my heart to know that special needs people can be heroes, too. I am autistic myself, and it gives me hope that I can be a hero, for I work at a water slide for 8 hours a week. This young man saved his life, through his calm manner. 💙💙💙

I think that Eric was a true and genuine hero and the best buddy that anyone could hope to find. I think that he did as good of a job as anyone else. I think that Eric is a very special person inside and out. He has a very warm and caring heart

This happened to me from Yellow jacket stings and I cannot tell you how quickly anaphylactic shock happens and how weak you are. so glad this guy and I made it.
It's been 28 years since this happened so Erik is almost 56 and Gene is 64 now. I'm sure Gene can never thank Erik enough for what he did for him. Disabled people can help in emergencies. I have autism and maybe I'll help in an emergency one day. This happened on a Saturday. If Gene had been alone that day, he would've died. When I saw Gene get stung by the bees, I was terrified and when he was feeling like he was not responding right thing I was even more scared because I thought that he was dying. He should’ve gone to the clinic.
I have autism too and took a CPR class when I was in high school. It was at our local fire department. I also took a first aid class when I was in college.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out together with a few people who had down syndrome. And they are the most awesome wonderful people i ever met. They are kind giving always accepting everyone they are around and show nothing but love and friendship to me. People with down syndrome really are very special and deserve to have everything they want or need in this world.
I love Eric such a beautiful person and amazing brother to Gene just because someone has a disability don’t underestimate there abilities there smart more then you think ya if Eric wasn’t there who knows what would happen to Gene Eric is a real hero glad Gene survived.

Eric did an amazing job saving his brother's life when he was in trouble. No matter what disability you have, one should know what to do in an emergency. I took a BLS class (CPR/AED) back in late 2013 so I can be prepared in the event I encounter someone who went into Sudden Cardiac Arrest. I have autism, and I've learned to appreciate people with Down Syndrome even more thanks to Eric's heroics, let alone former actor Christopher Burke (from Life Goes On), and a guy named Darren I encounter when I arrive in the waiting room to see my social worker. I almost forgot the R911 segment with Bradley saving his father when he choked on food.
This episode of rescue 911 was very courageously special because my best friend Crystal is down syndrome too and i just hope that she could help in an emergency someday
This really got me in to tears 😢 😭 🤧 😪 because he saved his brother I've lost my older brother 💔 in October 2021 was just 44 my brother was my big brother Eric reminds me when when used to gave my brother a big hug like Eric hug his brother I sure miss my brother Philip alot 😢 hopefully Eric and his brother are doing well today in 2023
Im trained in CPR and First Aid(first got certified in high school) and renewed this year due to my job. I believe everyone should know the basics of CPR and first aid if able to.
At the time this happened, I just turned 11 and my brother was one month away from his ninth birthday. It had been three months since I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina from Arizona. I was getting ready to start fifth grade and Andrew was getting ready to start third grade. We were both attending Huntingtowne Farms Elementary School. We moved to Charlotte because of my father‘s job.
Awe job . I Like this young man. I work with special needs as a job. I can barely get my resident to stop repeating themselves and stop pressing the call light . 😒 Gene is very lucky to be alive .
This kind of makes me a bit emotional because I have met people with Down's Syndrome and they are the most affectionate and welcoming people I've met. A few years ago, I was walking down the streets and there was a little girl standing on the side of the streets with her parents. She was a Down's kid but was a very happy and playful little girl. When she saw me, she gave me the biggest smile ever and started waving at me. I am very reserved and I never smile in public but it was as if this little girl could only see the good in me and was happy to see me. There was this innocence and plain-heartedness about her and it made me emotional. I had to come out of my reserve and smile back and say Hi. I had to fight back tears because it made that much of an impression on me. Just as well a family friend of ours has a son with Down's Syndrome and he has so much affection for us because he has known us since he was an infant and remembers everything we all did together, so he gets very happy when he sees us and never leaves our side. Eric was smart enough to know that his brother needed medical assistance. He is therefore an absolute gem of a person and a hero. People's conditions , syndromes or whatever it may be that they're born with don't define them, the way they treat others do.
Definitely have a medic alert bracelet as well antafalactic shock could be life threatening. also an epi pen is another excellent idea. God Bless you Eric and Gene. Eric your my hero.
It isn't pleasant when it comes to seeing someone with special needs get allergic reactions to bee stings. I'm afraid of bees even though I got stung by a confused bee on my left pinky back when I was a 5th Grade student at my former elementary school a long time ago.
Eugean Heiney III has since retired from the police. Their parents, Shirley and Eugean Jr., died in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Eugean and Eric's brother David Heiney died suddenly in 2015. Another brother Chris died before their parents but I can't find out when.
I have a high school friend who has down syndrome she has taught me a lot about down syndrome before I met her I had no idea what down syndrome was at all
I am just like Eric I have Down syndrome as well and yes people can't understand us although we have different personalities. But people with Down syndrome all look alike just with the palms of our hands and our face too
Never underestimate people with disabilities cause you will be surprised by what they are capable of and I’m special needs as well and have saved a drowning toddler child from a swimming pool I was 15 years old at the time and I was at my local swimming pool with some friends and was going to go to the water slide where my friend was and then I looked down near the lazy river and then saw the child in the water drowning in the start of the lazy river were the whirlpool currents are and knew it was a toddler and decided to look over at the lifeguards to see if they were paying attention but nope he was to busy taking with another lifeguard so I knew I could touch cause for me the water was only waist deep and ran in the water and got to the child within minutes of noticing him and he reached out he’s little hand and pulled him onto my hip and I had asked him are you ok and he said yes and thank you and took him back to the shallow area where his mom saw me and realized what happened and thank me for saving her 3 year old son and I knew what to do because at a summer camp for kids with disabilities when I was 10 my counselor decided to teach the 9 to 12 year olds how to save a drowning victim and didn’t think I was going to have to use it but five years later I had too but you’ll never know when you’re going to have to rescue someone and as long as you’re taught what to do. Also one of these episodes was the 2 year old pool save which is the episode I had watched right before the situation at the pool.

It took the USA many years after the UK to stop using the word "retarded" as a clinical diagnosis. I think it's going to take the USA a while to stop using the word "handicapped".
I hate the word "Handicap" I think it makes someone who has a disability sound like a weak person. And just because someone has a disability doesn't make them a weak person.

I have high functioning autism but I usually see the bad in people which causes me to lash out at others and get road rage 😡
